I see planes at the moment holding over Blessington before coming in to land. The circle looks quite tight and I thought normally holding was over Irish sea or maybe North of airport. Is this unusual?

That's the normal hold used to the south when RWY10 is in use.

METAR doesn't seem that bad, no ILS? Or just very unlucky with cloud base?

Awaiting someone on the four hour delayed EI3275 tonight, I saw EI3255 was seven hours delayed. On FR24, it seems EI-FSL has been drafted in from Southend? At what point does it get cancelled instead?

What's the purpose of that particular plane does anyone know?

It's now in Suriname, a country I have legitimately never heard of before. Learn something every day.

It's a rugged Soviet design that can get 20,000kg into just about any type of field up to and including an actual field.

What do you mean? Don't they have to train in autumn and winter too? Or is something changing?
