Na, its a custom build from pc specialist, called an ultrabook

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,766 ✭✭✭RossieMan

There are loads of types of ultrabooks, its just a fancy term to get people to spend more on a laptop. It's just a little bit more portable than a regular laptop. Surely there has to be a manufacturer?

    Price back up to £49.99

even though the term "ultrabook" is used improperly very often, in theory there are strict requisites that a laptop needs to adhere to, in order to be called an ultrabook.

The fan on my laptop is contantly on, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, if I swap out the HD for this SSD can I disconnect the fan? Its running an i7 , but I assume the heat from this is taken care of by the sink.
Fans are controlled by CPU and motherboard temperature, not the HD.

Someone will have to explain to me how 240gb for 50 beans is a good deal cos, honestly, I don't get it.

Its a solid state, no moving parts, not a normal hard drive.

I got it last Saturday, used the Acronis software to clone the current HDD , managed to get it below 240 first. Really happy with it.

Anyone get delivery of this yet? Ordered mine on day op posted but still no sign. Amazon has it down as expected last week but there's no tracking for it.

I had an issue with a different SSD from Amazon last month. It was also deal of the day and never turned up. Got onto them and they sent out a new one with upgraded delivery so was only waiting a week for it. No idea where the first one disappeared to!

I ordered 5 on the day and got them delivered around 2 weeks ago. Can't remember if they were showing as in stock at the time though

Ascendia? Best of luck. From experience they deliver nothing and you will end up contacting Amazon about it.

I was the same contacted amazon & they sent another by priority shipping which arrived last Wednesday.
My advice would be to contact amazon now.

    Amazon are gone to f*k

Three ssds sent out, they still had the same crap packaging and in turn damaged outer box on ssd. From around cyber Monday to missing my Christmas present to myself(over a week before Christmas asked to have it sent faster, no we cant do that no option there)I gave up and accepted it in January.

Give them feedback about packing which sparked a sent it back to us, no I don’t want to, that’s ok, then charged me again because I didn’t send it back. February the 8th the mess came to an end when I got my refund and likely between different exchange rates lost some money.

Jeff, its time to turn off your notifications for threads that contain "SSD" and "Amazon".

Emailed & they're sending again with fast delivery. Might get it before end of the week.

I had to do the same. Given how quickly they agreed to send a replacement I question whether they ever sent the first one.

Come on, You've a bee in your bonnet with the method amazon use to ship ssd's, admit it :p

I've bought at least twenty ssd's in the last twelve months from amazon, all shipped in the hard cardboard envelope and while they might not all arrive in absolutely perfect condition all ssd's have worked and are still working flawlessly.

Someone already mentioned to you on one of the other threads where you've left "feedback" that while you would expect to receive a delivery in good condition ssd's don't need to shipped with the same concern as a conventional hard drive. An ever so slightly damaged box in all likely hood is not going to cause a problem and besides if you did have a problem Amazon are probably the best company to deal with for returns.

TBF, this is just good customer service by Amazon and over the last few years is what I'd expect from them, they are second to none when it comes to Customer Service, it shouldn't be used as a reason to bash them!

My SSD hasn't arrived either, and they told me to wait until today, if it hadn't arrived to contact them and they'd send another, which I've just done.
