Showing up the other 2 provinces. Should get out of the group now after a disastrous start to the campaign.

Remember that first half before you get up on your high horse. Clearly Ulster need to work on their strength and depth

Great comeback, but Ulster should never have allowed themselves to go 23-0 down in the first half. A bit worrying that three players made such a difference. But much better attitude in the second half.

It was 2 players really. Peinaar and Jackson dictated play in ways Marshall and Humphries just can't.

Saw the score after the first half and Ulster looked dead and buries. ...that's some comeback

    Unreal stuff, well done Ulster.

It's not breaking news that Williams (on this season's.form), Pienaar and Jackson are crucial to Ulster.

Great comeback, but to be honest we left a point out there.

And all of you guys doubting Les Kiss and his selection.. tut tut

The biggest concern, and biggest question, is what happens if Pienaar/Jackson receive long term injuries? Ulster need depth at half back, and fast.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭shuffol

That was some balls by Jackson, after missing one short to salvage the game last week and step up with Pienaar on the field. And the kick, had well over 5 metres to spare by the look of it.

Should really end any debate between him and Madigan.

Kiss will be very relieved for a few reasons.

The criticism of Kiss' selection was quite obviously justified

The final score is all that matters, ;)

The lack of a tbp means we need at least a lbp next week

Ulster will need a few results to go their way: Clermont winning at Ospreys or Bath beating Toulon either home or away for example.

Yeah right, and Leinster were one of the top 4 teams in Europe last season

Not to knock it, cos it was a great kick, it was off an artificial surface not a heavy sodden grass pitch, so very different circumstances

But from an Irish point of view, this season is belonging to Ulster, whether you like it or not. No question about that.

How are they showing up any of the provinces by playing absolute muck in the first half, and then puling back a 1 point win against a team they would have beaten by 20-30 points if they played the full team at the start?

Also, Leinster don't have a lot to be upset about. One very poor performance aside, they have played well and lost narrowly to Bath and twice to Toulon. Sure, they haven't always played as well as they could, but any of those three performances would have won this game comfortably. I won't comment on Munster as there is nothing good that I can say.

Delighted for Ulster though, that was much tougher than it needed to be, but the second half was good. Hopefully they can get at least a point next week and then 5 against Oyonnax to go through.

Backed Ulster +16 at half time. Went to the shops, came back to see they had won!! Lovely.

Nice. Those type of bets very rarely let you down.

It's not a zero sum game. Ulster doing well doesn't "show up" other teams. Teams are valued on their own merit.

I'd be hopeful of Olding being able to provide good enough cover for 10 when fit though it's not ideal if he's starting elsewhere.

9 is a big issue but it is for every province bar with the exception of Connacht who have 3 decent guys the right age if Cooney stays. There just isn't enough quality in the country.

Interesting supposition when there's a side who have swept the inter pros this season.

Theres no province who has been better than the other this season.

Said firmly with tongue in cheek. Some come back from Ulster, delighted at that result!

Kyle McCall and Rory Scholes can hold their heads up after today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,662 ✭✭✭Borders no.2

Fair play to Ulster. At 23-0 thought it was done but it was obvious early in the 2nd half that they could still do it. Scholes try was fantastic. In the end I suppose you could say they got the result but they almost knocked themselves out of the competition through fielding a weakened team in the biggest game of their season which is mind-boggling. Will 18 points be enough? Possibly. We'll know more after the next round.

I have a feeling we might need at least a LBP against Saracens. Having just looked at the tables Ulster are currently 2nd best runners up.on 13 points but I'm not convinced 18 points will be enough. No point stressing about it too much at the minute though, as you say we will know more after next week.

I missed the second half today but just checked the ESPN stats for the game and Scholes's were excellent.

He's the form winger in the country at the moment.

He took his try very well. I said it last week, he is a good player, still a bit raw in some respects but probably a more complete winger than Gilroy IMO. Looking down the line I think he is the sort of winger that will appeal to Joe.
