The fat in their backs is actually money

It's all about trying to get the balance right.
But isn't that the story of our lives!!

Yeh that was my main point, OAD will tip things towards a milkier cow definitely, otherwise ya could end up with zero milk cheque from August on as ya said

So what's the cheapest robot available in Ireland at the moment?
Would I be right in thinking that it's the M2merlin?

Don't think it will. None of us can tell the future but at the moment there are something like 20000 robots milking cows worldwide . That's more than the total number of dairy farmers in this country.

20 k really? it was hard enough get the cows in to milk them in the evening back in october cant imagine them coming in themselves and standing over a robot and heading off the the field again. i suppose these lads selling them will say the cow will do a bit of fencing or something in between milkings a s well.

No but if you really want you could get a robot fence also. Not sure if that's what it's called. But to be fair that never took off you'd need very flat fields I'm told.

That's your problem right there. Your "imagining" what the cows will do rather than seeing it for your own eyes. You should go visit a few farms with robots and see how they are getting the cows to come and go to the robot.

Even if you're not milking with a robot. Here is an idea that will help get your cows to come in better. Try moving them to a different paddock with new grass after every milking. But make sure you budget the grass otherwise they won't want to come in if their rolling in grass.
