Starting to sleet/snow here in Blessington

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,158 ✭✭✭highdef

Not to be taken as gospel but the net weather precip type on the radar is now showing wintry precipitation now beginning to fall in many parts of the east. Most of Wicklow is now showing as either snow or rain/snow. Parts of east and north Kildare and south Meath are also showing a rain/snow mix, along with parts of Kilkenny/Carlow. This does coincide with the snow reports coming in.

Have been watching the precip type on the radar the past few hours and the green "rain/snow" mix has been expanding the past few hours. A combination of night time and evaporative cooling due to the light winds is likely to be helping this to happen.

For the vast majority of us not on high ground, falling but no lying snow is the best to hope for, I would reckon. Would be delighted to be wrong on this though.

Still no end in sight for the precipitation. In fact, it is getting more intense in county Meath.

Very heavy rain/sleet mix now in Dublin airport/Swords. Flooding on the back roads home from work. I imagine the mountains will be plastered with snow in the morning.

A conundrum: its bucketing snow but the rainfall has got stuck at 22.4mm...snow is accumulating in the receiver.

How do I know which day to attribute it to when it melts?
