I think he is one of the most consistently poorly dressed individuals I've ever come across. Everything he wears seems to be loud and flashy just for the sake of it. He's like the sartorial equivalent of a five year old running around and screaming 'look at meeeeeeeeeee'

I mean, Jesus H. Christ - what was he smoking when he decided this was a good look?

When I read the thread title my automatic first response was - "Why are people collecting in Dunnes for Paul Galvin - Did something happen him":eek:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,653 ✭✭✭✭amdublin

The collection is like a 9 year old boy from Kerry wrote into Jim'll Fixit and was sat down with a clothes designer

"End Cemoflege, I loike kehki cemoflege" (Kerry accent)

^ That's one of the worst "looks" I've ever seen. And the problem is that this time next year someone like VIP magazine will award him "best dressed man of the year", when he's far from it.

Isn't that "leaving the laces open on boots" thing sort of done now anyway? Is he pulling that jacket in a futile attempt to make it the correct length? Shouldn't he at least have emptied his pockets before the photo shoot??

What in the holy hell. That is absolutely awful.

He looks like James MacEvoy in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

    He trys too hard
When you see country lads wearing pink skinny jeans you know that trend is gone

I don't mind anyone having a go and taking risks, but at least get the basics right first and get clothes that actually compliment your figure.

I'm trying to figure it out - is he wearing a vest underneath that??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,517 ✭✭✭Sunny Dayz

What he wears doesn't really ever seem to fit him properly though. In the pic above, the jeans are too skinny, the jacket is too small. I've seen pics of him with tops too tight and trousers too short. Now I know many fellas nowadays work out and have a bit of muscle but that's no excuse for wearing clothes that are too tight or poorly fitted.

I will give his a round of applause for stepping outside the Irish man's comfort zone but I would prefer if he tidied up the facial hair a bit and wore clothes which fitted him a bit better.

I would have loved to have seen him putting that cardigan and jeans on lol :pac: Jasus looks painful , Are they sprayed on :P

Unfortunately it's not a cardigan, it's some kind of blazer which he seems to have borrowed from a nephew or neighbour's child.

The fit is all wrong and the colour of the jeans is pretty bad but what kills me is that he has the makings of a good look here but it's almost like he's trying to be so trendy that it ruins the look. If he got a pair of darker jeans that fit properly, the same jacket but at least two sizes up and say a plain white oxford shirt and a green pocket square he'd look great.

I actually just went onto the Dunnes Stores website to see what the collection was like. Ah it's not actually that bad. If you took out the cape, the rest of it is ok. I could see my husband wearing the knitted jumper with the shoulder patches and my son would probably wear the short sleeved hooded top and some of the t-shirts. The shirts I know wouldn't be to my boys tastes.

It's all too much black, white, and grey. I like a bit of colour and not dress like I'm in some kind of fascist state.

Its horrendous stuff, bombers more expensive than RI and Topman, random slogans such as 'warriors are we' and so on splashed across black and/or white basic tees, not sure what else you'd expect from Dunnes though.

Oh they are not random slogans. Warriors are we - sinne fianna fail - from our national anthem. Can't remember the other slogan but it's an excerpt also.

Again reminding me of a 9 year old boy on jimll fixit "I like playin wih me soldiers. Can we do clothes like an army or a soldier".

Haven't looked at the prices actually. How muxh is the bomber jacket?? It looks like something you'd buy in an army supply store.

Ah yes the long awaited national anthem clothing lines, thats what will sell.

Yes, I fear he's in wife beater territory there :(

Also, his head looks photshopped on there.

Everything is wrong here. It's so Blue(the band) it hurts.

I laughed to myself when I saw that article earlier, as I wondered whether it would be mentioned on this thread. Gas.

The suit with the bike looks OK if it were a costume for a period movie, but the t shirt with the "hoodie neck"? Just no.

    God only knows.

Irish men are not generally well dressed by any stretch of the imagination but Galvin takes it to a whole new level. He's probably the only male in the country who's wardrobe would actually be improved by the addition of a Ben Sherman shirt and a few pairs of bootcut Wranglers.

He's not doing anything to help Irish men become more fashionable. At least give them something that might appeal to them! I mean, the average joe will look at that and go "is that what fashion is? It's not for me then" and stick to their bootcuts and check shirts.

At least if it was halfway approaching a decent collection, they might think "ooh I might wear that actually". Sort of like the way the Beckham ads do for H&M.

Instantly thought Catholic priests wear from 100 years ago when I saw those (not a good thing btw). The red sweater and hendly t-shirt I'd probably wear, but pay the full prices would be another day's work...the shoes are alright, the 1916 waistcoat etc, horrific.

What I want to know is who dressed the pair of them for their wedding. Looking at that photo in the article, his trousers are too short and her dress is not properly fitting.

The silly waistcoat he wore for his wedding is the same silly waistcoat you'll see on the 'reduced' rail in Dunnes in a few weeks time. I'm not sure about the suit though. The wife looked incredible on the wedding day in fairness, no fear he had any say in that outfit anyway!

Ah lads some of this thread is too close to personal abuse in fairness.
Fair enough if my husband bought into the skinny jeans look at this age I'd probably be checking him into a midlife crisis clinic.
But Paul has a job to do for Dunnes and he makes a living doing it. Fair play.
The extreme stuff is there to get a reaction and going by this thread that is what he does.
Hate the clothes by all means but hating a person is s bit much.

I don't hate the person, don't know him. But his clothes are ghastly.

I would question how money he is actually making from this. Who would honestly wear the manket?

His range would need to be a lot more casual and middle-of-the-road to sell, compared to some of the xtreme looks he's going for. Perhaps it is? I haven't been in Dunnes in a long time and ain't seen any of it.

I don't like Paul Galvin and I don't think he is some designer genius, but creative people mostly push the boat a bit. And they are almost never conveniently well dressed. . It's like comparing fashion shots in Vogue to the ones in Hello. It would be boring if everyone was peddling a cashmere jumper, straight fit jeans, pair of converse or desert boots and blazer. It's not hard to be well dressed in the fashion catalogue sort of a way but it's not very creative ether. So I find all the outrage about someone who pushes the boat a bit mildly amusing and possibly more of a tell tale sign why Irish men (or women) are not known for the dress sense. God forbid you do something that's outside convention.

And I say that as a catalogue type of a dresser.

Ah jaysis but you can't be comparing a collection that might appear in Vogue to his collection that is available in Dunnes Stores! :pac:

There's a huge difference between pushing the boat out to be creative, and looking like you were dressed by a blind moron.

I never said that. But anyone who opened Vogue will know that styling is completely different than for your every day tabloid. I haven't got a clue what Paul Galvin's clothing is like but I certainly am not dumb enough to think they Vogue material.

You don't like how Paul Galvin's dresses, neither do I. But at the same time I admire Jean Paul Gautlier yet I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to mimic his dress sense. What is important is that clothing is wearable and interesting not how designer dresses. There are plenty of blogs created by people who like themselves a bit too much to tell others how to dress, you don't need Paul Galvin to do that.

That being said I have no time for most of the clothing designed by celebrities. (Victoria Beckham might be exception). I want stuff designed by someone who is good at it not someone who is famous footballer.

Beckham is another consistently poor dresser. Can't understand why anyone would want to dress like him.

I'm not sure if we are agreeing or not that they are ugly (and unwearable) clothes
