Had a little poke around the Tesla Model 3 yesterday. Orders open from mid May!

Technology aside, that's fugly, along with the rest of the model lineup. Am I on my own?

    Thanks for the video Mark

That's a far nicer car than I thought they were.
I actually like the dash as plain as it is.

Good review, I learned a lot from that.

I speced one up on the Spanish site and the top spec one without full self driving came in around 69k. If that was for less than 60k here it would be hard to look last it.

The performance edition one with the larger alloys, red break calipers, blue body colour and boot spoiler looked quite well I thought. Still missing a lot of the premium feel inside and not sure I could get used to the plainness of it all inside. No dash is just very weird

I reckon from what we were told yesterday that the performance version will be around €70k. 330i M-Sport type money basically.

Bob flavin was saying on his piece that will start from 49k. Although not clear if that is the price after grant.
I’m still not convinced Tesla will exist as a stand-alone company in the next few years.

I'm with you I don't think they'll last the length of the warranty. The arse has completely fell out of their sales.
I wonder will you be able to park them in the underground carpark in the new children's hospital.

I'm in Spain at the minute and was redirected to their site and they were basically 49k 59k and 69k respectively for each type which is what he mentioned in his video also.

That steering wheel looks like an afterthought and was made by Fisher-Price.

I watched the what she drives instagram post yesterday and it was showing fart noises for the indicator blips and a log fire on the dash. Daft stuff really.

Is it range and/or performance in the difference.? Whatever about paying more for 0-60 or extras or whatever but having to pay a lot extra for range would be the most annoying thing about it.

I can see Tesla being taken over by a mainstream manufacturer at some stage to get access to their knowledge base or maybe they will fold or be a niche player at best.
Already a mainstream manufacturer would be replacing the model s and x but I bet Tesla have no plans beyond development of the existing line up.
When vw pit their weight behind electric with the imminent launch of the ID model, the 3 will look less attractive to the masses.anyway a car starting at 49k is not a cheap option.

I've watched a lot of Tesla Model 3 videos in the last 6 weeks including visiting the showroom to see the Model 3 and also took a test drive in the Model S. I'm almost sold, I want to see one in real life on the road and test drive the Performance version before I pull the trigger, also really want to test drive the M340i as well as it's in 2nd place at the minute.

Everything about them is impressing me at the minute, only concern would be that for weekends when I drive to Donegal or Cork that I'll be pretty concerned on range as I wouldn't have a wall charger to plug into and its quite slow to charge otherwise. Thinking about getting the Blue Performance version with white leather and the performance upgrade. Comes in at around 69k which will be a lot cheaper I suspect than a well specced M340i.

Anyone here been looking into them and thoughts?

I have been following the threads on here and keeping up with youtube etc. in relation to the model 3 too. I live in Limerick 5 miles from a Tesla supercharging station in Birdhill which I could use on occasion as well as home. It would be a cheap car for me to run I think. Therefore I have been interested too
    .
I just can't get over my lack of confidence in the company and Elon Musk. Also if I have a problem there is no dealer support for me here. Was chatting last week to a man whose pal bought a model S and loved it until one day on the motorway all the screens went dead and he had no control of the car while it began self driving. It rebooted itself after thirty seconds and when he took it to Tesla here they found nothing wrong and sent him off. Traded it in after that for a seven series as he had lost confidence in its safety and lost 55k in 9 months of ownership. that kinda scares me away.

From what I have read the trade in offers in Tesla are very low too which makes cost to change more prohibitive.
Have you discussed money with Tesla here?

I've not, they basically offer it to the trade so you get the highest offer from what ever garages are interested, would be the likes of Beshoffs etc that will be bidding.

Other thing is that there is 0 discount where as with a BMW you will be able to get a few thousand off the list price and there is more room for negotiation.

I’m not mad about the exterior or interior of the model 3. I don’t think it’s a car I could ever have any sort of attachment too.
Do you have any concerns about the company itself?

I do have a little but not overly concerned. I bought some shares in them last week when they dropped a huge amount. I think they have great potential as a company and if there next couple of quarters are good then they will build a lot more confidence again.

I really want to see one on the road before I make up my mind on the exterior. With the performance upgrade I think they look quite good, wish there was a black pack option and factory tinted windows, that would really set it off well then.

On the other hand the new m340i isn't perfect looking on exterior either but inside its really nice I think.

It’s a pity they don’t do a dechromed version with privacy glass alright as I agree would look better.

The model 3might hold its value but its hard to predict.
Us BMW owners know that they drop like stones in value and the m340i will be no exception.
I’ve sat in the new 3 series and while it’s a step up from the f30I still don’t think it’s as good as a 5 and the materials are still not to the same level.

The other huge consideration is the difference in the cost of running each one.

M340i is up on the UK configurator now so should be up on the Irish site soon and must be almost available to order as well now id imagine.

    I think that’s the older f31 model.

Yeah that's the old model. New M340i has 370bhp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,834 ✭✭✭carsfan2

The new model saloon is up on the uk configurator. It’s just under 49k sterling on the road before options there so I’m guessing around 70k here when they price it?
You still have to add a few packs to it to make it nice though.

Would yesterday’s government announcement over the future of cars and carbon taxes change anybody’s buying intentions in the next few years?

I bought a nearly new Sorento this time last year. If I hadn't and was planning on buying now I think I still would has no EV suits my needs.

I reckon the announcment yesterday will effect car sales though.......until the grants/scrappage scheme for EVs are announced etc I can't see many buying an EV.

And loads of folk who were planning on going ICE will be thinking of how their resale value will be effected I'd imagine.

    PHEV version coming in 2020.

    ..... I only had mid €30k budget :o
The PHEV really appeals to me but 50% of my motoring (32k kms / annum ish) is 200+km spins and though home charging is an option for me charging at work isn't and you know yourself how PHEV folk are viewed for charging anywhere but at home :pac:
I'd love a petrol tbh......... my ole lad bought an IS300h recently, he does small overall mileage but lots of long runs so the is300h is perfect for him and I must say, I love the thing myself tbh.

    I was thinking the same.
I bet a lot of car dealers won’t thank the government for this announcement just before 192 season.

How much do you think they've devalued this by with yesterday's announcement. 20k for cash? https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/audi-a5-sb-2-0tfsi-252bhp-quatto-s-tronic-s-line/21420111

That car was up on the motors chat thread before I think. Overpriced at 50k.
Nice car though low 40’s would be more realistic.
