Yea it's not everyones cup of tea, at 40 I'd nearly take a drive up. Better wait for the budget now though, can't wait to see what they do with car tax if they want Petrol and diesel off the road.

They won't do much if anything with tax as there's an election looming :)
As folk have said, the waffle at the moment is merely a plan :)

Yea half a million waiting to get into hospital hasn't got a look in all week, well played Leo.

The move to electric will be dictated more by how quickly manufacturers can get products to market at a good price with decent range.
I could easily see a situation in this country where the problem will be the lack of charging infrastructure not a lack of cars. Our politicians really are making it up as they go along.
I do think they will up the price of diesel in the budget and maybe rejig motor tax a little but as has been said with an election looming they won’t want to upset people much.
We are all green until it affects our pockets in my experience!

Looking for something in and around the 10k mark. Thinking a Hyundai i30 or something along those lines. Don’t want a big saloon type car. Any suggestions?

It's not a huge jump in design from the 6GC though or am I alone in that?

Saw one on the road and wasnt impressed really, its a niche car but I wouldnt buy one over a 5, never mind a 6. Only thing is a 5 is very common, and a 6 is a relatively common sight now, I would say I see one most days.

It will be more exclusive thats for sure but thats about it really.

The new 8 Series GC looks overly big and bloated to me. I know it's a grand tourer but still...

    5.1 meters long!
Very big alright but I still wouldn’t say no to a present of one.
I agree with Mark it’s not radically different from the 6gc too

Im holding out for a mark 3 (or possibly a mark 2) MX5 with a hardtop roof that not a jap import at the moment. Great little cars. Once my daily E36 passes emissions and gets the NCT cert, ill put it on classic insurance. Shes getting to old now for 10K miles a year.

Im also half tempted to go view this. Im a bit nervous of renault reliability though.

Oh that looks like a lot of fun !

    I agree
Looks like it could be great fun.
As long as electrics are ok I wouldn’t be overly worried and I can’t imagine you’d lose much in depreciation either.

Just watched the Tesla model 3 tested on top gear. Much more impressive than I ever expected.
Anybody interested in going electric next car or to early to jump?
Any chance you could do a test of one Mark?

It looks like a cheap Korean car from the front.

Yes I agree, The build quality on these cars are questionable imo. Cheap looking plastics all over the interior and exterior looks like a car a few classes down from the asking price.

Some reviewers are saying that quality has come on since production began.
Running costs should be very low and performance is super.
I have my doubts over he company lasting though.

I have a Tesla in July or August (need to check) but it’s not a 3. I’ll be asking if there’s one going though.

Great. looking forward to watching that.
Just watched the rav 4 review. A very disappointing car that I had expected a lot more from but your review was good as usual.

I've a deposit on one of the ID3 1st. Not in any rush to go electric but the 0% bik is a bit of a no brainer can free up all the money in my own car and let my company buy the ID3. If something nice comes along in a 7 seater electric besides a Tesla I'd probably opt for that instead. Just can't warm to the Tesla, like yourself I don't think they'll be around in 2yrs.
Mercedes GLB electric might be a contender if the price can keep within the 0% bik bracket. Could end up with both as electric would suit us now.
Hoping our current cars don't suddenly plummet in value with some budget 2020 decision, wouldn't be the most environmentally friendly a XC90 D5 and mk7.5 GTi.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,834 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Didn’t you just buy the golf gti recently?

The seat El Born looks to be the exact same as the id3 and looks good as we have been able to see more of it.
It will be interesting to see the budget this year with regard to vrt and fuel taxes.
Apparently every new car sold from now until 2030 would have to be electric in order for the government to hit the targets they have said.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,106 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Have it since December but if I can sell it get some money back and then get the company car it makes a lot of financial sense. This is all towards the end of 2020 so a bit away yet. Can't see me doing anything shortly as nothing there in electric I'd consider changing either for.
Deposit on the ID3 is fully refundable once it's officially revealed.
If the government weren't going messing with tax and fuel think we'd be keeping the Volvo for 10yrs possibly longer, ticks every box for what we need while the kids are growing up especially at weekends when it's fully loaded. GTi is wasted on school runs and motorway blasts so I could tame it back a bit, 180bhp and rwd in the ID3 sounds ok.

    508 GT? or GT Line?

Why did they put the 508 on the bonnet? Never seen that before

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,529 ✭✭✭MarkN

GT. Not sure about the badge

    Gorgeous car all the same.
    Love the rear lights

I had a 5008 rental on holidays in France recently. I was very pleasantly surprised by it, lovely car to drive and the interior is extremely well finished and thought out. Top marks. That 508 interior reminds me of it, obvious shared styling cues...

I've started passing one of those on the road regularly. looks great, and love the interior.
