The M340i will probably set you back at least 70k I'd guess so they will continue to be rare on these shores.

Spec up a 320d with a few toys and you're easily up into 65k!

I do think an M-Sport 330i for low 50s isn’t bad. No extras added obviously!

Any pricing of the new 330e yet? Surely if this comes in cheaper than the 320d like the old one, after grants it would be a top choice and make the 330i redundant in Ireland?

BMW priced the 530e higher than than the 520d when it came out and I have a feeling now that plug in hybrids have become more widely known and an easy sell they may feel they don’t have to do many pricing favors for it.
Personally I think the 3 series is still too expensive compared to the 5 and most Will plump for the larger car.
I watched a YouTube video from Colm Quinn showing their stock of 3 series and it looks very plain in standard se trim for the price. Way better in sport or m sport though.
Hopefully you will get a review done of one for us Mark.

I’d love to but only so many times I can ask for cars. Plenty of Audi content coming though :)

The SE specs always looks grim imo... the 5 series looks very plain in SE too. Same with Audi. It has to be S-Line. It's like they deliberately make them ugly so that you'll plump the extra few K for the M-Sport / S-Line trim!

I think 3 series sales have suffered for a long time against the 5 here. You see way more 5 series on the road than 3 series.

Nice review of the new 320d M Sport here. With 190bhp and 0-62 in 6.8 secs it will be no slouch for a 2.0d. I like them

I’ve zero interest in trips away I’m too busy but some metal for a day or two in Ireland would be great!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,889 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I watched it and I don’t want to be overly critical but sometimes I’m amazed how little info he imparts about the car, and how little he seems to know.
I presume when you get a press car they tell you what model it is, what is standard, what extras it has etc.
what is interesting about the 20d is that the new engine is actually twin turbo now with two turbochargers to reduce lag and be smoother although they haven’t changed the output.
the sat nav is too complicated because it is set up for the uk market!?

The colour is nice, not too keen on the kit and wheels though.

Give some idea about the next m3/m4 and the super exciting announced M4 grand coupe. Looks good. I was a bit worried about the styling of the g series 3 series, but that gives me some consolation.

Any chance of getting a spin in the e-tron, I saw one in the flesh in Audi North Dublin recently? Looks great, much more appealing than any of the Q-range imo

Have to say I think it looks great. Seeing the wheels in isolation I wouldn’t be a fan, but in side profile view I think they suit it

I found his reviews terrible......... largely barstool type horsesh1t, unwatchable stuff. I must be in the minority though as he has a huge amount of subscribers.

    M550i

Any thoughts on what would be a fair price for this M3? Was originally advertised at 100k, then 90k and now 88k. If it could be had for 75k it would be a nice buy, not that mad about the colour though, would rather a less stand out colour.

it's lovely... I've seen that colour in the metal a few times and it has real wow factor!

But if you prefer to fly under the radar, maybe not so good...

I think Morrison’s have had that m3 a long time now.
I agree the colour wouldn’t be my first choice.
I’m not sure whether you’d get it for 75k but that would be plenty for it.

Not a colour I would choose spending that money on an M car tbh. It's a bit, I dunno, 'girly' for such a beast. There are some striking colours in the M range but, for me, that's not one of them. One of the nicest colours I've seen is on an M4 posted here, fitzgemes I think. Deep orange, eyecatching, but very cool too.

San Marino blue or Tanzanite blue would be my preference

I am a BMW fan boy but would go for something like this in preference to M3 and usefully cheaper too.
Would be a more comfortable daily all rounder. More luxury and comfort and probably faster on Irish roads in the real world.
A good price if you could chip a bit more off too.

I'd say the M340i will be the same price after 6-12 months, the market for a car like that is so small in Ireland that they will have to drop the price to sell it. The M340i would be much nicer I think and have better tech as well. Sat in the new 3 series today, fairly nice in fairness but coming from the new 5 I was a bit underwhelmed. Looks good on the outside though, there was a beautiful M5 san Marino blue in the showroom and they also had a Tanzanite blue 4 Grand coupe as well, looked great.

I spent a while today kicking tyres in my local dealer and played around in a new 320d m sport that was just under 60k. While the interior is a step up from the f30 it is still nowhere near as good as a 5 series and overall I was underwhelmed. Also the price when you add a few bits are off the charts. The car I was in was more expensive than a 520d M-Sport for God’s sake.
Madness. Will be interesting to see where they price the m340i alright.

Same here. Poked around 2 of them in Colm Quinn’s in Galway. One was a 320d SE, the other a 330i M Sport.

The SE is just very very plain. I’d feel very short changed if I dropped the bones of 50k on it.
The 330i M Sport was lovely overall to be fair, I think it looks best from the rear 3/4. The front is fussy, loads of fussy curves and false ducts... and the huge grills are an acquired taste. And while VAG have managed to hide the cruise radar sensor, it’s still prominent and obvious on the front of the new 3.

The interior is nice, but nothing ground breaking.

Got chatting to a fella I know in there and he said they’ve sold a few but they’re anxious to get a few 318d’s in as that’s their volume seller!!!

I’d definitely like to a spin in a 330i at some stage.

Getting back into my own 4, I was happy enough. The current (old) 4 series is still the much better looking car. There’s nothing about that new 3 that would have me rushing to change! I think a slightly used 5 series would be a much better bet.

I agree that the 4 is better looking as will the new 4 be when it comes out. The interior of the new car is obviously more modern though. Not keen on the new auto gear knob style and it feels cheap in the hand.
They have a few 318d in limerick dealer and I guess it and 316i/d will be the main volume sellers at low 40k mark which is more than enough.
I’m definitely getting old as I reckon the cost of these cars is getting completely out of hand and the only reason they can sell them is because most buy on pcp or similar and this masks the true cost.

40k for a basic 316d is a fair amount but with a Corolla now 30k I guess it not that much of a jump

The new 3 series looks well apart from the front. Bmw are loosing it a bit with some of their front ends. The new x5 / x3 / 7 series grills are a real turn off also.

A lighter car vs the old one is a big win though.

    Any pricing on new 330e?
No doubt a slightly used 530e will be the far better buy.

Nothing on the configurator yet but I'd imagine prices will be somewhere between the 320i and 330i. Prices on the new 3 Series have risen substantially bringing it not too far away from current 5 Series pricing but standard equipment has also increased.

    Here is a 330i for 57k:

In comparison here is a 530e M Sport for 2k less:
