Pardon my ignorance, but i see that these boxes are openly available & just seen them recently in a Euronics mailing advertising them,

But when i asked about them in an electrical shop a few months ago, i was told that 'I don't do they, theyre illegal' ??

Do they have the same sentiment in when years ago a similar shop thought that double tape decks were illegal as well :P

But i've heard of someone in my area recently got android box/dream box they call it of a local guy, but how do you know which to go for, if you read up on some of the one's that could become problematic after a while?

As i assume the addons for certain things that can't be named are added on already?

    Thanks for listening.

Of course they are not illegal. They are just computers. Whatever you put on them and do with them is up to you. Not sure about those boxes that that come 'fully loaded' with the various software.

So guys I'm eagerly awaiting my wetec ,what do I need to do when I get it to start getting access to movies,tv series and sports streams? out of the box how does it fair?

Out of the box it is a blank page.
The addons etc, need to be installed and you will need to install Enigma or open ATV for tuner.

Thanks, I'm a total noob to this so I may search for some guides.

You'll find the main images etc.. here

Installing the images is pretty straightforward.

Requires Win32DiskImager and a Micro SD card. 8GB Class 10 PNY in Currys for €7.49.

    Or MemoryC

Any way to install from a USB stick?

I thought openelec was installed and thought that was all I needed to get started?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,766 ✭✭✭RossieMan

Openelec is the default. You can use tvheadend for live TV.

Thanks for sorting this out mate

I'm a little confused about openelec tho

I'm well used to Kodi and I know enigma 2 inside out but am brand new to openelec.

Is it a Kodi add on or is it an operating system?

To switch between enigma 2 and openelec does the box need a reboot?

Does this box receive OTA updates or does it need to be done manually?

Hope someone can shed some light

(Oh I can't wait to get this box)
    wiz569 wrote: »
I believe the PBEnigma images allows switching from enigma2 to openelec, not sure about the other way round

    OK to clarify ,

If your running PbEnigma image it has Openelec in it,so you can switch to and fro,but you are not actually switching between the OpenElec on the nand and the E2 image unfortunately,at least thats the way I understand it at the minute

Yeah sorry I was going out the door.
I meant you can install them. I wasn't thinking properly when I posted it.
I was debating to link to PBnigma and go into that, or just link the alternatives...

    Sorry for any confusion.

This tracking hasn't been updated since 17dec but it's still down as delivery date as Monday 21st. I've yet to receive the bags from Parcel Motel either, but I've been assured they'll be dropped into my PM locker tonight, so hopefully they will.

Anyway, if anyone plans on collecting theirs from Waterford, can you please text or email me please so I won't have to do up any labels for you, save be a bit of time. As I've said already thou, there is still no guarantees that these will be delivered to you by Christmas Day. That will be in the hands of Parcel Motel. All I can guarantee ye is if they come tomorrow I will have them packaged up and brought out to the Nightline depot be 7pm which is when the lorry leaves Waterford to head back to their main depot.

On the last order I did, it seemed to be the same timeline, they got delivered to me on a Monday and I had them gone by the Monday evening and PM started to distribute them from late on the Tuesday night, with the last guy getting his by Friday evening, that delay was down to not enough empty lockers in a particular Cork PM location. I'd assume thou that PM are even busier now than they were 2 weeks ago thou.

    Thanks for the update mate.

Personally I don't mind if I don't have it by Xmas day, im just grateful that you took the time to sort this group buy out for us lot :)

I've saved a fortune this month on boards.ie between this group buy and the other one I participated in, on the bean to cup coffee machines in the tea/coffee sub forum, when Amazon were doing the 4 for the price of 3 promotion.

    Much appreciated brother.

    Quick question about OpenElec.

Is it only the OS stored on the mSD when running this? Or does it cache media your playing? Just wondering if there's any point in getting more than 8GB?

Openelec will actually be installed on the nand flash memory rather than on the mSD. You only need to use an mSD if you plan on running openatv or pbnigma for tuners.

Here's another good video from the same guy just uploaded today. It shows how to export your channels as a playlist and use in non kodi apps such as vlc or maybe even ios or android apps are possibilities...

I got a Wetek Core box so it's Android on nand and OE on mSD.

Sorry didn't realise that, yeah if running openelec on mSD then it will cache/buffer some to the card, 8gb is generally considered enough though...

I got a reply saying they could give me a price of 62 each +30 for delivery if I bought 30 or more. I would offer to do one in the new year but I won't be home during the week to take in the delivery.

I'd be interested with a dvb-s tuner if a group buy is happening in the new year!

Don't need it but want it!!...........

I'm looking forward to mine even if its after xmas, I just hope I can get my head round it all the get it up and running.
