That Darcy is some predator . I'd hate to find out what goes on behind closed doors . Why is sexual harassment acceptable from him and not for others like Andy Gray and Richard Keys .

These are just some of the comments on Twitter. RTE really have messed up dumping Brendan O' Connor for this sh!t.

"Pamela Anderson was great on the show. unfortunately ray darcy was a sleeze ball. cringeworthy!"

"I need more wine after that interview, Ray Darcy disgraceful conduct of Pamela Anderson #Shame #RayDarcyShow #GettingAngryByTheMinute"

"absolutely dire. Darcy, be honest to yourself and admit your a disaster at this. Just go."

    "€500k for this? #RayDarcyShow"

"Pamela Anderson came across very well on the #raydarcyshow Ray Darcy came across as a sleazebucket"

"What a disgrace Darcy is. WHY have @rte decided he is their future? Horrible disrespectful interviewer. #raydarcyshow"

"The relentless innuendo of that interview was unnecessary and disrespectful. Really surprised at #RayDarcyShow . Pamela seemed lovely."

" 'There you are there, on your knees' 'It's been great having you... Oh, I should rephrase that!' Ugh. Go away, Ray. #RayDarcyShow"

" 'on your knees in front of the Prince' - highly disrespectful. Pamela did well not to walk off after that 'interview' #RayDarcyShow"

"This interview is a spectacular display of how some refuse to believe women with a certain 'persona' could have a brain #RayDarcyShow"

"#RayDarcyShow @rte seriously take this guy off the television! No respect for his guest! Cringe"

"Jeez the crass tone of this interview is appalling. #RayDarcyShow"

"Fair play to Pamela, she has the demeanour of a woman whose been dealing with pricks like Ray for years #RayDarcyShow"

"The nasty odd question for a cheap laugh. Fair play to Pamela Anderson for rolling with it. It's an appalling show #RayDarcyShow"

  • Registered Users Posts: 51 ✭✭WhatAMelon

There's just a handful of tweets dealing with his show and all negative.

The guy is flatline poor. Dumping O'Connor for this uppity undertaker is one of the biggest gaffes in broadcasting history - anywhere.

If a guest was an active porn star and had a porn dvd to sell his antics would have been acceptable but neither was the case.

To be honest the likes of hosts like Jonathan Ross, Graham Norton and Conan, every second joke out of them is sexual innuendo. No way any of those would have passed up the opportunity of that joke about the Prince of Montenegro imo.

It is just that they are funnier hosts and that's why they get away with it.

She seems very nice, I never heard her being interviewed and I'm sure she doesn't get offended easily given the carer she has had and the fact most of it was developed by portraying herself as a sex symbol.

I think no matter what Ray does he will always get a hard doing !

    Darcy is finished

50% of the population know he has nothing but contempt for them

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,481 ✭✭✭tinpib

Is Ray a sociopath? Why couldn't he see her as a person and just ask some questions?

He can ask about personal misery questions. Although it mightn't be the best telly but why couldn't he do the same about her Hep-C?

She'd probably be happy to get into it.

    Fckuing Bell end.

Exactly, he should stick to the impromptu press up competition with models, where at the end he doesn't care about the result, elbow dances and balloon animals.

Like Jonathan Ross, Graham Norton, Alan Carr and porbably Michael Parkinson, Ray should stick to his strength which is apepal to a dozen decision makers in RTE and about another 40 people watching it ironically and commentating on boards.

*great to see you back The Talking Bread:pac:*

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,481 ✭✭✭tinpib

Does anyone have any idea what time Ray's unshaven pubic area walk of shame from Parnell Square to Merrion square starts at tomorrow?

    Should be good. Local boy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,351 ✭✭✭✭Harry Angstrom

The sad thing is, Ray probably deludes himself into thinking he's "one of the lads" when making crass comments like that, though he actually comes across as a creepy pathetic individual but without the self-awareness to realise this - despite having that psychology degree that he rarely mentions.

There was a couple of things.
The woman is far more than just a sex symbol in fairness.
She has a lot of stuff to talk from her life (she's 48 and has lived) whereas your man was like a schoolboy in his own world with his cracks.

The second thing is Brendan O' Connor or the above like Conan would allude to her sex symbol status with jokes but they wouldn't be clumsy or seemly mean-spirited. D'arcy's jokes just seemed to be off and not inclusive at all.

Those other guys, if they do allude to sexiness etc, are well-intentioned and adept/inclusive in their humour ie the guest doesn't feel alienated/bewildered as she obviously was towards the end.

And the thing is, she is the perfect guest to be able to laugh at her own sexiness/past life so it's like he was seeing a challenge where there was none there.

You lads are reading too much into Darcy.

The problem is simple - He hasn't got the personality to do a show like this.

It's all contrived. . Nothing is natural except Ray's awkwardness which leads him to unknowingly dig holes for himself with stupid comments.

He's not doing it on purpose.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,481 ✭✭✭tinpib

Has anyone listened to Jarlath Regan podcasts? I hoenstly haven't :( but know his stand up and personality.

It seems to me that's the type of guy BBC or Channel 4 will give a show to, whereas we get ironic-spar-merlot-boards-comments-500k-a-year-ray-arsey.

Word, dog. I'm feeling ya. You know wha i'm sayin'.

No. I'm getting ya. Don't attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence.

I mean there was a point when he said "Have we shown them the pig?. . Yeah we have". . . When he hadn't.

He was basically talking to the producer in his earpiece.

RTE have reaped what they sowed here. . . Took out O'Connor (who was doing a fine job) to replace him with Darcy (an RTE insider)

The problem is that he's not good enough for the show, but we still pay him €500K to do it, and we're missing out on a better programme/film etc that could be shown in its place.

It's dire stuff, he's been doing it for 25 years and I don't think he's going to improve.

He needs to go. End of.

There's so many talented and funny people in Ireland who could successfully host that show, but RTE are just stunted in their decisions.

Do you think RTE actually give a crap what any of us think? They have a setup so cushy the public sector would be envious. Imagine if you ran a company, that could demand a payment of €160 every year from every household in the country (regardless of how good or bad your product or service is) where the penalty can include imprisonment for non payment. Working in an environment of such conceited arrogance results in hosts like Darcy being forced upon us. It's legalized theft.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 663 ✭✭✭Alex Meier

    It's legalized theft.

If the ratings are poor then the show will be axed.

Thing is . . Darcy is so bad that he's essential viewing imo.

I agree. They don't give a flying fook.
I would like to add though, that Brendan O'Connor, although better than Darcy was pretty shyte also. Very awkward and wooden on TV, plus he was a cheerleader for Fianna Fail and Bertie Ahern in the Sindo for years and epitomised to me a lot that was crass and wrong about the property bubble celtic tiger nonsense in this country. We are still living with the consequences of that today.
It annoyed me that he was handed a job in RTE at after all of that. Whatever about bankers and politicians not held accountable, neither were our media.

So i wouldn't be calling for Brendan o'connor to be brought back, or anyone else for that matter. Chat shows have had their day and there is certail'y no need for tow of them on a weekend. Even Graham Nortons star studded shows are cringy.
The question is is it time to call a halt to the notion of a state broadcaster? I think it is.
RTE right now is merely enriching its employees and pays lip service to public service. You're a mug if you pay a licence.

That doesn't necessarily follow. Conversely, the fact that Brendan O'Connor's show was actually beating Tubridy's Late Late Show in the ratings last year didn't matter a feck to the RTE suits who decided to axe Brendan in favour of Grey D'Arcy; and they're hardly going to admit their mistake by axing D'Arcy so quickly. Their egos wouldn't stand for it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51 ✭✭WhatAMelon

They don't care about the ratings. They've alot of pride and money bound up in D'arcy and RTE types live in a back slapping bubble where they are just never wrong and where nothing exists outside of their little RTE village.

People in England would stop complaining about the BBC if they saw the caligulan welfare antics going on at RTE.

Awkward, socially inept, blundering. Ray appears to be modelling himself on Alan Partridge.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,929 ✭✭✭✭Ash.J.Williams

Watched it on ff as far as Pam...Adele looked well...or was that another jack Nicholson situation?...I suppose it's the ray Darcy show and it's all about him and his comedy, and the interesting international beautiful guests are just there to facilitate that.
Just to dissect his last joke "was great having ya...I mean on the show ...not having sexual intercourse with you" a step up from discussing jizz with caprice I guess

Good points. He's that bad that this probably explains some of it. I still fhink there's some intentional and committed element to his smut. Last night really was the pits.
