    MOD

Driving without insurance is illegal. Don't discuss it here. Ta.

The only reason I'd judge someone for not driving would be if they were forever looking for lifts off others. I used to work with a guy in his late thirties who didn't drive and used to look for lifts of other work people all the time, one in particular. Never once offered to chip in for petrol or anything.
That's the only scenario where I'd judge too - and that's not even just judging someone for not driving, it's moreso for being too dependent and lazy.

Otherwise I definitely wouldn't judge - it's their business, doesn't affect me. I don't see how it's an "essential" life skill. As said also, driving lessons are very expensive now. It actually seems pointless for people living in very built-up areas with regular public transport.

Learn to drive when you really need to.

Been on the road myself since I was 20.

It's an essential life skill in the same way as cooking or computer literacy is. You won't die not knowing how to do it but you have a lot more options if you do.

And Ireland is actually a country with seriously deficient public transport, especially if you live outside bigger cities. It's never going to be great because it is sparsely populated country, so for me Ireland is actually one of the countries where it is essential you drive or you have at least easy access to someone that does.

Oh yeah that's whom I mean - it is definitely essential if you're stuck for a regular mode of transport, but I mean specifically people who have access to frequent public transport, aren't relying on others for lifts constantly etc. I would find it a bit strange if someone never learned to drive ever, but I wouldn't think less of them if they had no real need for it.
