Im sure its been mentioned and even debated, people that wear socks and no shoes/runners. If you are doing it because you think it gives you better balance/posture then buy better shoes! And for the love of god, stop touching barbell and dumbbell handles with your feet!!!

I did spot a guy in a city centre gym wearing socks and was very evidently bleeding from the heel of one of his feet. Nasty! Havent gone back to that gym since

see I feel the opposite, I think it's disgusting the amount of people I see who stretch on the mats in the shoes they're walking around on the street in.
I also respect that it's a pain in the face to bring 2 pairs of shoes to the gym, one pair for stability in lifting and another for your cardio or what have you. If it was bare feet you were griping about i'd see your point but stocking feet nah.

Really? Do people wear their trainers/runners out on the street casually or running as well as to the gym?

Maybe I'm weird? I have several different pairs for each activity. I'd never dream of wearing my gym runners casually or vice versa.

Im sure you sweat in the gym and im sure your feet sweat. I bet your hands dry faster than your sweaty socks.

I've multiple pairs of runners too but the ones I wear to the gym I'd also wear if I was going to the shops, or walking to the gym etc

Yeah, everyone sweats all over in the gym there is literally sweat everywhere, sock sweat, crotch sweat, ass sweat, boob sweat and very little of it dries in then and there. I just don't see what walking round is socks is exceptionally gross

I walk across the road in my gym runners to the gym from where I am. I don’t care. I don’t wear them outside besides that.

Ben Dunnes on Jervis street used to be awful for that. Full kit w@nkers clearly wearing the mucky boots and GAA gear from the weekend dropping muck all over the place.

There's an expression I love that seems to have disappeared from the vernacular, I thought I was the only one still using it.

Esp. like the FKW's who have the team tracksuit too.:pac:

I know some people aren’t keen on people wearing sports gear to the gym, I wouldn’t be a fan just if the people who it seems (GAA people mainly) want you to know that ‘yes, yes I do play for this club’.

That said, I do appreciate someone wearing an obscure jersey or pair of shorts. Was thinking of buying a pair of Parma Calcio shorts for that reason.

Has dropping dumbbells been done to death in this thread?
It seems the scumbags in my gym are trying to make them bounce as far from their own bench as possible.
Not the type of lads you could politely tell to be careful.

Same here, it's fairly common now to deadlift in socks?

As for saps dropping weights, some tool was flinging an EZ bar to the floor after doing curls with 20 kg on the bar last week in my gym. Half repping his curls and the most effort he put in was flinging the bar to the floor.

Maybe these people are terrified of floors and are doing this to remind the floor who's boss?

my gym doesn't like people lifting barefoot, that's the only reason I don't deadlift barefoot

I do a fair amount of stuff barefoot in the gym. Mainly prehab/rehab for knee ailments. It’s the only way to train your proprioception correctly.

Why do people have more of an issue with bare feet than bare hands? Hands touch everything. Feet are hidden away in your shoes, all safe like. Is it the sweat issue again?

My issue is feet in general.

He was doing dead lifts at the time.

Pic taken in a city centre gym. I emailed the gym about this but haven't seen a change in behavior.

Feet are more likely to be carrying bacteria, fungus etc than hands are.

At least I've never heard of athletes hand!

The amount of lads that don't wash their hands after going to the toilet...then they use the bars.

I don't see bare feet is worse than bare hands when there's pribably a lot worse being spread by hand.

    But that's just me.

Surely wearing foot wear would be the disgusting part. Most people's feet and socks would be cleaner than the soles of their shoes. Your runners are picking up all sorts of dirt and grime whilst walking down the street. It's the reason jiu jitsu gyms don't allow footwear on the mats. In a normal gym you're not rolling around on it or potentially rubbing someone's face in it so it doesn't matter.

I’d be more worried about a person taking pictures of feet in a gym

it's no more disgusting than using a toilet, shower, or swimming pool that hundreds of other people have used, germs are everywhere already. Plus if you're keeping your shoes on the bacteria from the socks of others isn't near your feet, but the outside dirt from your feet is being walked all over the place

I remember seeing a study before where it found the outside of a shoe was carrying far more bacteria than the inside and the bacteria on the outside was more dangerous.

Most people wash at least every day or second day and wear socks once before changing them. Whereas most people don't clean their shoes in any meaningful way unless they walk in dog****. I can't see how walking around in bare feet or socks is considered dirtier than walking around in something that could be worn every day for the past couple of years without being washed.

Females too  I just try not to think about their toilet-y hands all over bars, equipment, bikes, doors etc. :( Well, that and the giant PVC all-over-body suit I wear at ALL times.

I can only imagine how the lad who showers before going to the gym would feel about people not wearing shoes.

Absolutely no problem with not wearing footwear. The lad with the bloody heel is in the wrong for bleeding all over the place and should obviously cover it up.

Yeah, no issue with someone not wearing shoes once their socks/feet are clean. I personally wouldn't go barefoot in gym, but would have no problem wearing just socks.

Athletes foot is caused by wearing shoes, a lack of fresh air to the feet.
