What's the deal with blood curdling groaning noises when doing any weights?
Old fella at the gym making seriously off putting noises, for every Rep of every exercise. Now he was really well built and in great shape and I normally try not pay attention to anyone but the noise!

The only time I wished the gym was full and I had earphones on :D

I was on the cable crossover machine the other day and a guy came over and asked was I using both sides of it, I told him I was, and he walked off, then literally 20secs later another guy walks over and starts using one side of it, I had to tell him I was using the machine, and he left. It's not like I'd walked away, I was standing between the cables.

If I see one of them a threadmill in the future I'll jump on behind them, sure they're only using the front half anyway.

Perfectly valid question - pulley stations can be used for a variety of exercises the majority of which don't involve needing both sides.

I told him I was, and he walked off

Did you ask him if he wanted to work in?
then literally 20secs later another guy walks over and starts using one side of it

Perhaps he didn't know that you actually owned the machine and that nobody else was allowed to use it while you were standing there not actually doing any exercise
I had to tell him I was using the machine, and he left. It's not like I'd walked away, I was standing between the cables.

Again you could have also said 'sorry I'm using them but work in if you like' or something to that effect but I digress...
If I see one of them a threadmill in the future I'll jump on behind them, sure they're only using the front half anyway.

This analogy only works if somehow the person is running on two treadmills simultaneously.. a la Terry Crews/Eurotraining which, incidentally, is still one of the best videos on the internet

women are even worse than men at stripping the bar or putting their weights back.

shocking stuff from the fairer sex.

I've seen a few people do this lately. Not just women. Wtf is wrong with people that leave the bars loaded or leave DB's on the floor?
Another annoyance in my gym is people at the smith machine. They pull out the seat/bench onto the floor to do their excersise and when finished they just walk away leaving the bench on the middle of a walkway. It's an awkward seat to move in fairness but if you're strong enough to move it out you should be strong enough to move the fcuking thing back

lad in Flyefit at the weekend must have had about 20 plates on the leg press and after quarter repping a few sets just walked off without unloading anything. If you want to be a tool and risk injury by lifting like that then fine, but dont be a dick and make someone else unload all that weight to do their workout

Is that one of those old-fashioned wool-spinning machines?

I love my squatting, but if someone is doing something else "legit" in the "squat rack" (particularly if its actually the 'power rack' variety) I'm OK with it. The Flyefit I go to has 3x the number of racks as benches for bench press.

That said, if you're doing something silly that isn't heavy pushing / heavy pulling / squatting... be gone with ye!

    +1

Taking a stance that only squats belong in a squat rack is ridiculous. Comes across as trying too hard imo.
Sure, curls don't belong there because you can just pick up a bar to your waist anywhere. But heaving pressing and the likes are fine.

Where else should rack pulls be done?

    Another +1 from me.

Heavy military press, deadlifts (I like to have the plates as few inches off the ground, I find it stresses my lower back a lot less), rack pulls - all legit uses of a power rack. Even benching if there are no benches free.

Ok ok I didn't mean just squats! I don't know how to describe what the rack is like but anyway there's only two places where you can squat. Yes, I have seen people curling in there. And dragging a bench inside it for benching when the bench is taken etc. It doesn't happen that often which is why it was further down my list. Rack pullers continue!

If you're benching and you're pushing to where it might be wise to have safeties, there's nothing wrong with that.

Yeah power racks are for a multitude of things. Benching in them is often necessary. Though seeing people dumb bell bench in a cage is very annoying.

While im a fan of Flyefit Macken st, the georges st one seems to attract some very annoying people.
There was a guy there yesterday sitting a few feet back from the mirror doing shoulder presses with 45 kg db's for reps. Some tool decided to stand about a foot infront of him so he could watch himself doing his lateral raises in the mirror. I felt like reefing your man out of the other guys way. if someone is lifting that heavy stay out of his bloody way until he is finished with his set

If he's pressing 45kg dumbells then he's probably able to look after himself :)

It's hugely important to be able to admire yourself in the mirror when pressing dumbbells.

If someone stood in front of me while I'm pressing heavy I'd be majorly pissed off ~ ya see, I've great triceps when I press :p

A lot of the things in this thread are annoying, but usually I can ignore them.

But I fcuking hate the "brodudes" taking pictures and video clips of each other. Very tempted to photo bomb.

I suppose it depends why they're taking them. If just for the 'gram then yeah, a little irritating. If they want to check their form then absolutely fire away

If they're competing in a BB competition, this makes sense. If not, bit sad.

If their posing blocking someone from seeing their triceps as they OHP, they're worse than Hitler.

This surely can't be the first mention of Hitler in this thread....?

Someone once sat in the only free power rack at my gym and started eating food and taking selfies, it was like she was going through a checklist of annoying things to do in the gym

Completely agree, I have done this a to get my deadlift and squat form just right.

I'd be far from a poser and would look very scruffy just after work :D
