The better team won. Considering how many players we've got out, we did our best.

Fitzgerald, best and McGrath were great.

    Hopefully Joe stays with us.

Obviously it's disappointing. But ultimately the better side one. Argentina were ruthless and it's quite scary comparing them to their last two World Cups were it was kick everything, they ran at us from everywhere and kicked very little and caused us serious issues.

We never seemed to have a plan to get into the Argentina half and create chances.

    Oh woe is me :-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

Obviously disappointing, certainly didn't deserve a 23 point beating. You get the sense there was a massive momentum swing between the red card issue and the subsequent missed kick.

Fitzgerald had a massive game off the bench, Madigan does not deserve the vitriol that is certainly going to be directed at him.

Ultimately the fast start killed us

    Argies were fantastic
Hopefully we hold on to Joe
English and French will be knocking

Think our reductive game plan came back to bite us somewhat, it's not very good for chasing games. Serious questions have to be asked about the defensive plan, why so passive? Almost a carbon copy of the issues we had against Wales last time out, standing back off tackles and drifting too passively.

Such a waste of talented players again.

I'm gutted. Have so enjoyed this World Cup, but we were beaten by a better team.

Support your team win lose or draw. Fair play argentina.

Better team won, really that simple. Blame on the ref? Meh, play the ref in front of you not how you want the ref to play.

Defensively poor all game, too narrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,229 ✭✭✭LeinsterDub

The start left us too much to do. But aside from that for the majority of the game they out played Ireland in all aspects of the game expect for the line out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭McGrath5

    Hard luck to Ireland.

Argentina where simply the better side, best of luck to them for the rest of the competition.

Gap between the hemispheres is as great as its ever been.

A complete re-tool of NH rugby is in order, or NH is going to have a hard time ever making another World Cup Final, let alone winning one.

Rory Best was my man of the match. Played like a man possessed. What a shame that man won't get another shot at it.

I think they stole the French's soul last time out. They play like France used to, beautiful to watch. Rugby the way it's meant to be played tbh.

Well they kept going to the end. Did'nt do a la France. Argentina were certainly up for it. You just had to look at their reaction to their anthem, to know they had fire in their bellies. Will be interesting to see how the match up to Australia.

Absolutely better team won but that ref did not put in a display he'd want to remember no doubt, some shocking oversights.

I don't understand why Murray keeps booting the ball away straight to an opposition player. It doesn't seem to achieve anything?

Can somebody explain this to me? Yes I'm a rugby noob but addicted after this World Cup.

nah, not buying that "players injured battered tired blah blah"

writing was on the wall from the Italian game AND the warm up games where we apparently we're keeping something up our sleeve.

Argentina were outstanding but the team from 1 to 15 played poorly. Madigan, what to say. I can't say he cost us the game but his kicking from hand was soul destroying. Every time he got on the ball my heart was in my mouth.

Both kearnys were caught out badly defensively. Earls was poor.

Everybody else was 6/10 at best.

**** that's exactly who they reminded me of actually. Scary pack and a backline which doesn't exactly scare you when you give them them the eyeball test but bloodhell are they creactive, strong and fast.

Chris Henry and Rory Best had great games I thought
Obviously gutted but Argentina were very impressive, and have been throughout the tournament

AUSTRALIA v ARGENTINA going to be an epic game (hopefully).

Sad to say but semi finals contain the tournaments 4 best teams....

And yes Australia will beat Scotland....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,271 ✭✭✭A-Train

Calmed down a bit now, just so disappointed tbh like everybody!

Argies the better team today in general, got the rub of the green for the littles knocks and touchs! Especially with ref with the breakdown and 2nd yellow not given.

The France match killed us! Never going to recover after missing the 5 lads!

Ireland have never won a knock out match in the World Cup I think that's what is so annoying to be honest!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

I thought Best & Murray were top class. Fitz & McGrath were very good from the bench. Too many of the rest weren't up to standard, and we were too passive in defence.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,718 ✭✭✭Taco Corp

No questioning Ross at scrum time but think his work around the rest of park is not enough. He served us well, no doubt but now time to look beyond him in the 6nations

better coached team won, with better set of players

    well done Argentina

Ireland seem to struggle when they don't have the underdogs tag. Argentina had much greater pace being lighter in the backs.

    Que to the doomsday scenarios.

We're still a top 5 team, but no team bar the all blacks would've won that game without their top 5 players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭CurryFlavoured

Definitely work to be done in the backline. Dave isn't really up to it, neither us Earls. Fitz was very good tbf, I have high hopes for Henshaw and Rob is solid but rarely anything else tbh. We have a world class pack but were missing 3 today and Healy hasn't been 100%.

From a defensive aspect I don't think any team has tested us white like that in a long while. Argentina were ruthless and with tired legs it was going to get messy near the end.

Gutted gutted gutted .jus wasn't our day ,last week took its toll big time combined with the loss of poc, sob, sexton and Pom .we kicked away too much ball,Murray in particular and lost procession .and let's not forget Argentina they were simply awesome .well done and best of luck for rest of tournament

Thought Argentina were good before the game, but they are even better than I thought the last few seasoond in the RC has done wonders for them. Simply put we had probably our best available side out and the better team won comfortably

We need to take a long hard look at how we play rugby in the NH but probably not going to happen

yes. delusion reigns until the world cup comes around. Autumn internationals and summer tours are pretty meaningless it seems.

Have to admire Argentina's performance today.

Luke Fitzgerald had a good game.

Proud of the lads, not much more they could have done, leadership and shape were missing due to the players we lost and Argies clearly fresher.

Maybe top five but we are number 5 in that case. The SH is pulling away from us the whole time. We may beat them in a tour but when the world cup comes around we get beaten

We've been very impressive under Joe, but we've never had the attacking play that Argentina, Australia, NZ have shown in this WC. Are we capable of it? Maybe, but we haven't needed it to win 6 Nations.

And agreed, no one has tested us like that but we were still below standard. It's not like we shouldn't have expected this.

That underdog tag is a fan mentality in rugby. Teams like Ireland would not buy in to it.

Shane Jennings said the 5 player thing is just an excuse and I agree. We had a 23 today capable of winning.

We didn't turn up for the first 20 minutes and that cost us in the end. Game plan had to go out the window and we had to chase the game too much.

Argentina could bide their time knowing they had such a nice buffer and more gas in the tank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,836 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

Matt williams talking sense for once. The way the game is going, you need to be able to play to wide. We can't rely on out muscling teams any more. Australia beating the **** out of the England pack should have been a red flag.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 716 ✭✭✭Red King

The speed and ball handling of the SH teams is another level.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 664 ✭✭✭price690

Getting excited about winning the six nations "championship" on points difference for a couple of years (and beating experimental southern hemisphere sides in meaningless November friendlies) tends to feed the hype machine.

Yet another failure to progress beyond the quarter finals.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,681 ✭✭✭Fleawuss

Exhaustion and injury took its toll but the style is wrong. Schmidt brought them as far as they could, no doubt. But he is limited by the style guys have been coached in all their lives. Lessons to be learned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 277 ✭✭luckyboy

In my opinion, there has been an ongoing issue with Rob Kearney's tackling/general last line defence which has been costing us for a while. He is still superb under the high ball but I don't think it is enough any more ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,961 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

Really puts a spot light on how insular and lacking the 6 Nations is in comparison to the Championship. It's pathetic that the same **** gets said after each WC, and yet nothing changes. Unions here fight to keep everything stagnant and safe.

I hope Australia or Argentina can go on and win it. Australian rugby could really do with a shot in the arm, and Argentina are just lovely to watch.
