The council is trying to force their way in right now as we speak - if you are one of the silent majority who have been supporting us in Glenamuck Cottages and Rockville Drive, now is the time for action - please come down to help!

I truly feel for you residents. You are proctecting your property and are been made to be the baddies in the media.

The pub a relative of mine works in in bray had to close yesterday and my husband was a delivery driver around glenamuck / carrickmines for 7years and he's heard first hand from residents and staff of the retail park over the years just how much heart ache they caused up there with burglaries and robbing stock in the retail park as the trucks were unloading it.

Have the residents got legal advice at all? If a go fund me page was created to help pay legal fee I for one would donate.

If you look at that poster's history neither of their two posts indicated under their name come up. A bit odd.

The post history is broken alongside other things on boards.ie check your own. Its been broken for some days since the issues with the site were prevalent.

Good on you. I can't make it there today but am willing to contribute to crowd funding and attend tomorrow. Thanks.

I guess the meeting didn't go in their favour this morning?

I have seen what travellers do first hand. Plenty of PC idiots say one thing but when it comes to the crunch that won't back up with action what they say.
I have zero intention of taking in a Syrian but plenty of PC idiots said that would, now where are they now when these travellers need somewhere to stay?
no where. as just like pc, pc idiots don't exist.

You can start by treating them the same as anyone else whose neighbour's home burned down.
As anyone else who has become homeless.
As anyone else who has decided their current home no longer suits.

After that, you can get into child welfare, animal welfare, education, domestic violence, criminality etc.
all of that has legislation to deal with and is being where resources allow and exist.

The Rockville residents really need to be careful if they allow the site to go ahead.

the residents don't get to "allow" anything. the council makes the decisian. if the council want the site to happen badly enough they will make it happen. if the council decide not to it will be the councils decisian.

The council may swear in blood that this particular family will be moved on,they need to swear that no other travelling family will move in either and the site will be signed over to the local residents association for amenity purposes in perpetuity and will be maintained by the county council.

so the nimbys block the land and the council should implement amenities maintained by them for the residents? absolutely no way. why should the council do any of that considering the residents are blocking them from using their site for its purpose. the council owe these people no favours. the council own the land, they can do what they like with it. as i said, why don't the residents make the council a decent offer for the land and buy it. then they can do whatever they like with it.
    Mary63 wrote: »
If the council get their way on this one they will know the residents have been browbeaten and the council can ride rough shod over them in future rather than starting another battle with another group of residents.

if the council get their way? the council are following the laws. they have to find accommodation for this family by law. there was no and will be no riding rough shot. the council are entitled to use the land. the nimbys are blocking them and the council are stupidly not moving them on. the law is on the councils side.

I'd like to see a poll add to this thread. Do you support the residents blockade? Yes or No

I'd like to see this as well.

No they can't, they're still subject to planning laws.

So put them up in a B&B, Hostel or Hotel like everyone else.

The Council can find an alternative site without too much trouble.

If they don't already own somewhere they can buy or rent other lands.

Putting a halting site adjacent a residential estate is not suitable.

the council have a site. they can and hopefully will do what needs to be done to gain access and use it. not their job to buy land when they have land availible

The site they have is unsuitable.

If they have no other site they will need to rent or buy one.

    Simple.

they won't need to buy any site. they will use what land they have as is their right.

End of the Road, if the council decided to turn the site into a hazardous waste dumping site, because the local dump was full/unavailable, would you still say they should, because they could?

I've asked before, why turn a green field site into a temporary accommodation site, which would have to be plumbed, wired and connected to sewage, when there are other sites that currently have these facilities available?

No, they actually don't. They need to put these people up in B&B's and put them at the end of the list for re-housing. There are thousands of people who have been waiting for months and even years to be re-housed, they do not deserve to have people jumping the queue.

If the residents want support from the majority in this country all they need to do is put the word out

The council own swathes of land around carrickmines. There is a halting site that is only half occupied at the end of Glenamuck Road. Why are the fellow travellers not offering to help their own first? I suspect there is a lot more to this story.

The problem with the b&bs is that some of this group have already been kicked out of emergency accommodation. You have just lost family and your home and are filled with grief but can still find time for anti social behaviour that results in you being kicked out.

The council wouldn't put up that crap off anybody else so they shouldn't put up with it off them.

+ 1 to a poll on this issue, I'm always interested to see how SJWs deal with popular polling on issues like this or like the Syrian refugee crisis.

If they've been kicked out for anti-social behaviour, then they should be left to their own devices. Let their wonderful extended families put them up.

Just drove up Glenamuck Road around half an hour ago and all seemed quiet. I did notice that the Golden Ball was closed thought and they had blocked off the car park.

I'm sure this was done as a "mark of respect" as well.

If fully agree they should be left to their own devices but pavee point would be on screaming discrimination when in reality they get preferential treatment a lot of the time as the council and government are afraid of being called racist.

I'd say travellers gather round their respective dinner tables every evening and laugh their bollocks off as to how they have the settled community in their pocket and watch on at our infighting with delight

to suggest this family who lost members in one swoop in the biggest tragedy and loss of life in a fire since the stardust disaster should be simply put to the end of the list for housing is the most vicious nastiest thing i have ever read on this site. this is an extra ordinary circumstance. get over it, deal with it. other people waiting for a house is not this family's problem. the council are doing what they are required to do. fair play to them.

its all covered by legislation. the existing garda resources can only do so much

as sjws don't exist you will never know

pavee point would not be on "screaming" anything, and the government are in no way afraid of being called racist. its in peoples imaginations that those ideas exist and nothing more.

Apparently this site is not suitable due to feuding between the current residents of this site and the bereaved family who are looking to be rehomed.

It seems strange the the residents who do not want a halting site set up next door to them are being castigated and guilt-tripped by the media, yet no one has said a word about feuding family in the other halting site who won't call off their of their feud with their recently bereaved kinsmen who just lost 10 family members!
