Sounds like you may be in the 1 month notice period. If correct, orders start the 17th December.

KNN are back at the junction at the bottom of my road feeding fiber through the ducts towards the work points on the poles on the roads behind me.

I was on a walk and got talking to a very friendly KNN engineer and asked when my road is getting done. He said everyone's been stopping and asking! and he happily informed me that my road is due to be cabled/wired this Saturday morning and that every house on the road will be covered, similar to the blue line!

He said there is a big push to finish Dunshaughlin in time for Christmas and that the area may go live either just before Christmas or sometime in January:)

My excitement is at an all time high! He remarked that 2017 is going to be an incredibly busy year for them.

I also saw KNN on the Ratoath road starting the installation of the splice box's, the wiring seems complete on that road.

Nice one. I'm a tad jealous! Deutsche Telekom over here is going down the super vectoring and G.Fast route rather than letting copper die with dignity. Just waiting now for someone to find something negative in your post so they can moan about Eir for a while :D

Tara exchange is down as live since 23rd November, so I'm letting sleeping dogs lie and hoping it's the 30 day notice period running down.
I'm still seeing a lot of activity down this end, but not as near to my own house as I'd like yet!

Live for FTTC. Or exchange in this case.

he didn't mention other exchanges but my gut feeling is that once Dunshauglin is out of the way by Christmas, this will allow them to work on Batterstown/Tara/Ratoath and Ashbourne, all of which are close together and down for either early/mid 2017 or spring 2017.

I imagine Tara is going to take several months to complete as that is one of the biggest FTTH rollout exchanges in the country with over 1100 premises planned.

In Dunshaughlin it's starting to look like they may be doing all the exchange in one go.

The Tara FTTC exchange is a strange one. The cabinet is located at Ross Cross at the Post Office. There is nothing else around it except a few houses and a petrol station. Even the small village of Skyrne is too far from the cabinet to benefit from it. Most of the roads in the area are blue lined so I'm wondering how many people are gonna get FTTC fiber from this, makes more sense for them all to get FTTH.

Yeah I know the area. I'm just going by the map and the text description on it. It did seem that the area would not get FTTC but a few updates back this changed to a live date of the 23rd of November.

An eir rep just called to my house taking orders for ftth. He said that there were only 15 slots for it and if they get filled up they're gone and you won't be able to get it. He also said that the black splice box about 20m down the road would only do one person. Is this nonsense, or was what he was saying correct? Btw, it's going live on December 28th for me

He works for CPS or another company, not Eir. Purely commission based and talking ****e. He'll have moved onto a real job before his lies are discovered so he's free to say whatever.

I'm getting reports of salesmen on the outside of Ennis (blue-lines) pressing doorbells and getting people to sign up for a live date of 28th Dec.

Also told further work expected at weekend.

Only in Ireland will we end up where someone living in the middle of nowhere will be complaining that they can only get 100Mbps FTTC while his neighbour living in more middle of nowhere delights in his gigabit speed FTTH. Lolz.

Not soft enough I'd say? :D

I'd hope your right in that eir are gonna follow through on all these promises - I'll believe it when I get my FTTH connection - but until then I'll have my reservations thanks.

Some in work was telling me that ESB/Vodafone have a joint venture going at the minute where they are bringing fibre speed broadband in on power cables. Is this happening. I remember it being discussed a few years back. Is it going ahead. This chap reckons they are rolling it out in Wexford town at the minure.

    Here's my story:
Moved out of central Berlin (max 50/10 VDSL, no vectoring) available to commuter town of 12k people in Brandenburg (max 14/2 ADSL2+ Annex J). VDSL2 (with vectoring) became available to order last month. I ordered it and expected around 80/30 as we're 650m from the MSAN.

I got home after we'd been "upgraded" to 19/1.5 with my FritzBox (7362SL, so a "good" vectoring friendly FB) clearly running in failsafe mode (max 2.2Mhz, G.vector OFF). Called them up after trying several restarts didn't help. They confirmed a fault and said they couldn't fix it remotely and a technician needs to come out to the MSAN and possibly our house.

    Ze Germans eh?!

We can forget about FTTH here. Telekom is clearly going down the "sweat the absolute bo*****s out of the copper until the bitter end" route. Short term thinking. Eir are thinking much longer term. That is so obvious to me.

that sounds like Eircom from the late 90s, early 2000's. Is there not rival companies rolling out fiber as well? Im surprised things are that slow in Germany of all places, usually they are ahead of the game in everything they do with infrastructure, public services, networks etc.

eir would be doing the same were it not for the NBP, except that they would be years behind still. ;)

SIRO would not exist except for the NPB and there would be no incentive for eir to do things right and do them now.

Germany only recently got on the ranking list from the FTTH Council Europe meaning that they have at least 1% household penetration. Ireland hasn't made the list. Yet!

While that is probably true, Eir were starting to get more progressive anyway when they started their FTTC rollout and expanded on it very quickly. I think one of main factors that woke up Eircom was when UPC expanded throughout Dublin, Cork, Galway etc and Eircom lost much of the urban landscape in the 2000's.

Their FTTC is quite competitive, which has helped gaining them some customers back from cable and their blue line FTTH rollout will have heavy uptake. They will soon be able to offer all their services in some rural areas as well as urban areas.

The NBP was definitely the icing on the cake for Eir to rollout into the countryside, without it they would have done anyway but not to the scale of the current rollout.

There are certain roads between Ashbourne and Dunshaughlin which have multiple blue line sections with gaps where the housing becomes very isolated. They sort of areas are going to be very difficult for any other company to serve. All Eir has to do is fill in the gaps using their existing FTTH network if they win the NBP in these areas. I can see myself from one of the blue lines near me, how easy it is for Eir to just run more cable and connect up to the next section of blue line just 1km away.

Ireland will leapfrog Germany in every metric in a couple of years. Irish cities already have far superior broadband to German cities IMO. Even where Telekom offers FTTH it's max 200Mbps download! Irish cities can beat that on cable internet.

There is FTTH investment from EWE in North West Germany and local communes can pay for FTTH deployments themselves (if they have the money) but the dead hand of Deutsche Telekom still steers the ship almost everywhere.

Germany has failed to understand the importance of fast internet and will be left scrambling to catch up with Romania, Latvia, Ireland etc...

A lot of the unwillingness to invest can be traced back to the average German punter, who does not want to spend more than 20 quid a month on internet. The rest of the world however won't wait for Germany. New technologies will become available that demand super fast speeds and they will simply not be available here.

from the looks of it, eastern Europe and Russia are far ahead of most other countries.
