That's ridiculous. Someone (ASAI/COMREG) need to step in and cut out this mis selling.. but too toothless. Not alone is it mis selling but it makes the product not fit for purpose.

I have had to stop downloading UHD movies on my SkyQ box and stop watching Netflix in Ultra HD. I am now stuck with a service that has a stupid limit on its "Absolutely no usage limits" unlimited package.

They have a monopoly on 'rural' FTTH for the time being and going back to their monopoly roots will milk it for what it's worth and grin away at regulatory bodies while they do it. Which is my worry with the way the NBP is evolving in their sole favour. That they don't allow customers to cap/restrict themselves to 1TB via their Eir account is proof enough of their intentions IMHO.....M.I.L.K. (and sell a few pups to get there)

That would make sense. However am I correct in thinking that GPON is limited to 2.4Gbps down per fiber trunk? I.e On a fully saturated fully loaded 32x splitter the max speed one could wish for is 75Mbps? (I know this is hypothetical and ignoring possible XGPON upgrades in future and priority of service shaping across plans by Eir).

    Jim

Its 2.5Gb yeah, the deployed split is actually 31 so 80Mb/sub CDR without counting overheads.

XPON upgrades arent relevant just yet, these OLTs will be paying for themselves for the next 8yrs first.
unbelievable but since Eircom are involved it's believable. After all that today only after I mentioned in writing in the email thanking him for confirming there was no fair usage policy -- he rang up to inform us of a 1TB fair usage policy on the business packages.
it actually was a surprise since the regional manager for Eir business sales was there as well as our local rep who both swore up and down there was no such thing as a fair usage policy on the business packages

Eir segment themselves into Retail/SOHO + SME and Corp. You were probably speaking to the upper retail guys. I was surprised at them having something "real" at 120 but its just residential with an SLA at 2x the price before VAT.

Call corporate sales and get a price, just for our curiosity.

Would it not be a waste of everyones time to get a quote of x,xxx per month with an xx,xxx installation fee?

My thinking is would they not use the existing fiber and apply a more appropriate FUP. My guess for them attaching the (pants) FUP to the business packages, is to protect against migration from the existing similar speed but higher cost connections.

Wasnt a serious suggestion but pricing would start below 4 digits.

ah ok. I was in a bit of a serious mood so just totally glazed over the existence of jokes there for a moment :p

I'll have to figure out who is best to go with now. As I've got no moral fibre the options still include Eir if they turn out to still be the only option for >1TB per month at alll. But the mobiles + other phone line that were to be switched over to them will not go ahead.

Welcome to Eir / Welcome back to Eir.
Your are cleverer than our average customer and despite our repeated efforts to ignorantly/fraudulently get you to sign upto our "absolutely no limits" business or residential contracts you have eventually identified our questionable business practice of inaccurate/blatant lies during sales pitches from multiple Eir sources.

Whilst you continued repeatedly to confirm with us that the product offering of no FUP limit/absolutely unlimited as per our website detail/sales rep door salesman/eir web chat host/business managers etc etc we have caved in and admitted that you will not get what we repeatedly promised (due to you putting it in writing which may have legal/media consequences) for us.

We also know we have repeatedly frustrated you with install dates, pricing errors, promised call backs, service interruptions etc. But take it or leave it. We are the almighty Eir and answer to no one including ComReg/Advertising Standards Authority etc. You are a speck in the customer ocean. You should have read the small print ;)

Isnt it just an extra 40 quid when you go over ? just include it in the price or could they cut you off for repeatedly going over the limit ?

Their charging for going over the limit seems kinda random, I've seen people get charged the full 100 euros for going over the limit not by a huge amount, while others get charged the exact charge to relation to how much extra they downloaded.

I'd love to know how widespread this is because while there is a good deal of noise being made on boards over Eir's FUP, I doubt every Eir customer who is being charged excess charges is running to boards to complain.

    Some joke.

My phone number passed on eir site as FTTH available, place order 20th of last month. Installation was supposed to be today. Got an email on the 6th confirming installation.

For a laugh I rang that open eir number I saw on here this morning, 01 5366550.

Wow. Mental stuff. Took 5 minutes to get answered, put on hold for 5 and then cut off. Repeat that 3 times. Finally when I got talking to somebody I tell them I was hung up on the last 4 times and she listens without putting me on hold. No record of an installation planned for my address, "No info here bud", so she said she would put me through to Eir. 10 minutes listening to classical, she couldn't answer my query if an installation was happening or not. I knew at this point I could come on here and get an email address or deal with that Eir boards person. But my stubbornness and curiosity about how bad Eir employees are on the phone got the better of me.

She said she would talk to open eir. She put me on hold, for 45 minutes. I started going slowly mad. The hold music changed 3 times. Eventually some fella came on the line and said "hello, how can I help you today?" I started laughing. I went over my details and the hang ups and that I was on hold for some lovely woman to come back. He then got an attitude like it was my fault for ringing eir. He put me on hold, for 5 minutes. He came back and said some guy had checked my lines and fibre wasn't available at my address. I looked at my phone and told him Eir was not a great company and it's employees are not great at phone edicate. I said the usual how could I order etc. I thanked him and he cancelled my fibre order.

    My 15 year wait continues.

FYI Don't contact Eir by phone.

11 years ago I had a similar call with Eircom. I wanted a phone line connected to a new house so I could go with Digiweb who offered 6 or 7 Meg while Eircom were offering only 1 for more money. He seriously told me that nobody would ever need more than 1 Meg and seemed personally offended that I would choose a competitor while they spent all this money connecting my house. Laughable and sadly the attitude seems to be the same. We're Eircom (Éir). How dare you question us.

Good luck with cancelling your order. I submitted my order on the 5th May, got caught up in some bureaucratic nightmare, with over 40 phone calls and nothing happening (all my neighbours got connected, although with lots of grief as well).
I decided three months later, in agreement with Eir, that the only solution was to cancel the order, and start from scratch. They can't even cancel the order! It has been going on for weeks, it is with Tier 2, and still no go. The Eir customer care service is truly dreadful, as the customer cannot talk to the people who can solve the problems. If there was an alternative, I'd have moved a long time ago.

They are indeed moving really fast in the last couple of days.
Unfortunately, they dug through a pipe on Monday afternoon and the Kiltale Group Water Scheme area still has no water!

Folks anyone have any experience of getting equipment moved on your property ?
Splice box is in my garden in a manhole and needs to be moved but when I contact Eir I'm told I'll get a call back.Going on a month now and no one will give me a answer.
Feel like telling them if it's not moved it will be just ripped up when digger arrives.obviously I wont do that as I'm on it as are 2 of my neighbours.

Have you contacted open eir? It's a complete waste of time contacting eir retail; it's not their network (as fond as they are of telling people on the doorsteps that it is).

In my town I am in a FTTC area and beyond that they are all getting FTTH. I guess they are doing the other areas first who have been on **** connections for years. Has FTTH become available to anyone who has FTTC already??

yes but in rare cases if they live in a rural area nearly 2km from the cabinet and only getting low FTTC Speeds such as 7/15 megs etc. A few homes in my area were able to order FTTC for past year with line speeds of 7 to 15 megs, since FTTH went live those homes are now no longer able to order FTTC.

Haven't come across anyone posting in that situation. They are rolling fibre in my area at the moment and they have placed splice boxes close to the exchange, in an FTTC area capable of in excess of 30Mbps.

I had FTTC - The cabinet was in the exchange - I am about 1km from the exchange and was getting speeds of 30Mb down and 8Mb up. I am now on FTTH on the 150mb package. I'm the first house nearest the village on our road so was probably extremely lucky that they started the FTTH rollout at my house .

Problem is, it is a year too early...
