Easier said than done - not sure how much it would cost to get it done, and cant see how i can go digging a trench on a public road as far as the manhole cover

Didn't realise it was a public road though it was to a pole on your land

Yeah its a pain in the neck. There are no poles at all in my area, and the splice box is down under a manhole cover. From what the KN guy said, i'd have to get the trench dug as far as the manhole. Cant see how that would be practical to do at all. Would also have to break up some concrete at the house to bring it in

Maybe they will erect a pole near the manhole and bring it in overhead across the road.

How up to date is the openeir map. On there map it says it will be available in my area Autumn/Winter 17.

that would be the job alright, but he didn't even mention that as an option

I live in rural area and have a empty duct running from my house to the edge of the road. The main fiber line and poles are on the opposite side of the road.

What are kn installers doing in this instance? I'd prefer the ftth cable to come in through the duct but this would probably mean cutting the road. Would they be insisting on putting up poles and running overheard.

PS I have no exist ING phone line

Duplicate posts are frowned upon ;)

2 poles and use your duct
dig road and use your duct

Either way a likely delay in getting connected.

    Wasn't sure where to post🀔

You would swear by the rep from eir that they would be along to install before the ink was dry on the contract!

    Hi all,
1st time poster but a long time follower of this thread.
I give up on getting fibre broadband ......
Our road is the last on the line from the exchange giving a very unstable less than 1 Mbps down through the copper phone line, so imagine our delight last February when fibre cable and distribution boxes were strung along the poles on the road, and the area went live shortly afterwards.
Much to our horror I discovered that our road was not on the blue/yellow lines on open eirs ftth map for our area.
When I saw the email address on boards.ie for open eir, I emailed them with the distribution box numbers either side of my house, and got the reply, that our house is beyond our infrastructural stopping point and is not included in open eirs commercial fibre rollout plan, it will be covered by the nbp.
Surely the infrastructure is there with the cable and distribution boxes, and the fibre is live 500 mtrs at the house at the end of the road.
Its looking like I'll have to wait at least another 3 years till the nbp starts rolling out, because I'm also in a blackspot for mobile broadband.
    So disappointing

Unfortunately not close enough, it appears you must be within 150m of the splice box and within 50m of the nearest pole on the property boundary (NTP) to be connected. They won't extend the fibre beyond the planned infrastructural stopping point, leaving some properties for the NBP.

There are properties closer to the stopping point than yours that aren't included, for example this one I posted previously, last house on that particular road and a stone's throw from neighbouring properties that are included

What's best way to order from eir? Just click buy this bundle on site ?
Can a better deal be struck on phone?

    Hello All,

Not been on here for a while but its the best place to discuss the issue I am having.
Like so many people here I live in rural Ireland and have been waiting for a number of years to see it come to my area.
finally 3 weeks ago they have completed the installation of the boxes.
The Eir checker says Fibre to the home is available now for my house eircode.

Issue is now I am with Sky and Sky have not yet been notified by Eircom that its available.
So they have no power to put in order to have me connected.

I understand the monopoly and that Eircom and Eir are workign together, even though are supposed to be separate companies.

So first of all, Anyone out there found themselves in same position on how long did it take before your ISP was notified?
Other thing, Isn't this highly Illegal what Eir are doing regards trying to capture as many customers as possible and holding back other ISPs from upgrading their customers?

It would just be typical of this country that finally broadband is here and now its not being hooked up efficiently cause of corruption!!

    All thoughts welcome.

    You are making false assumptions.

Sky cannot connect you to FTTH because Sky does not make such connections country wide.
That is Sky's decision, and not the fault of openeir or any other body.

Other providers besides eir do make such connections.

Sky don't resell ftth afaik and have no plans to yet.

Hi sky not on Eir FTTH network so you will have to get rid of sky. Then pick one of isp that sell Eir FTTH.

in OpenEir's FTTH rural areas, Sky and Vodafone only sell ADSL. In urban areas they sell FTTC but the majority of rural areas dont have FTTC.

Ok thanks for the input. Just got off the phone to hammer this out with Sky. They did not make this clear to me before.
I am looking into Cancelling Broadband and Talk with Sky now to move to Eir.

lol this is all a bit of mess, I thought I would be able to upgrade to use Sky Q box.

Surely Sky are going to do FTTH soon, anyone have insight to that?

i work from home so I just going to take the fee for breaking contract on the chin.

I doubt Sky will launch FTTH here anytime soon, they don't even offer it in the UK either apart from a small area of York were they rolled out their own fibre.

Whether or not you get your broadband from eir or another provider does not impact on your ability to get Sky Q.

Wouldn't I have to use the Sky Q router?

However I think you could be right as long as I run a hardline to the Sky Q box.
Was just handy having the Sky box connect wirelessly to the Sky router.

Could you not continue to use the Sky router for the Sky Q LAN requirements and connect it into the main router for internet access?

I do not have Sky Q so not certain what devices of what type Sky provides.

Other users seems to manage ok.

Sky have always waited 2 years after the launch of a new service so they catch customers who's contracts are expiring and get customers who have already dealt with any customer support issues that occur when first installed.

eir reps were around pallasgreen , Co Limerick today selling FTTH. Spoke to them about it and they say it will going live in Pallasgreen in the first week of august. He seemed to know the difference between FTTH and FTTC. He said it will be FFTH as the fibre cable will be installed directly into the home. I decide to order the 150mb package. Hopefully nothing will go wrong :)

What area or areas of Pallas did you spot them around?

There are still loads of areas to be cabled up and have splice boxes fitted, so unless KN /Diffusion get a real move on Aug seems very ambitious.
Or they maybe going back on the few areas that went live in May to sign up additional people.....?

I don't know much of the technical details of the installation of fibre but there are 4 KN & Diffusion Vans along the N69 in Askeaton, Co. Limerick with three mini diggers laying cable from huge wooden spools underground.

They probably laying piping into the ducts for fiber cables. KN has that job and OpenEir will lay the fiber cables in due course probably in the next three or four months in the Askeaton area.

At least there is activity anyway and some sign of positive progress even if it a roll out will be next year sometime

Just got off phone whit Eir sales. Told salesperson I was recording call for verification purposes. She had no problem with this. Told her I wanted Fibre connection. She looked up my account.
Told me that area would go live 26th this month. Advised me NOT to place order as my existing connection would be disconnected until fibre was installed!!!!!!!!.

Salesman had been to my house 1 hour before and told me that fibre is live.
    Fibre is not live.

Upshot:... wait till 26th.....check if fibre live....order.

If they did not have a monopoly (Openeir)....they would be gone to the wall a long time ago.
