FTTH sales will improve. not everyone is jumping at it as soon as it goes live. Only Up till February there was less than 10k rural lines passed? 12k actual connections is not bad for a rollout that's only live 6 months.

I have a feeling most of those 12k are rural too, I can't imagine too many FTTH sales in areas like Sandyford where Virgin has always been available.

What is dissapointing tho is the rollout seems to be slowing down again, they should be passing way more than 12k homes per month at this stage to meet the target of December 2018.

Those 12076 actual connections from Comreg include urban FTTH from Openeir and also Siro.

There may be more clarity on this when the Quarterly review is published. Even though there is no milestone for 'Connected Premises' (meaning connectable) there is a reporting requirement on Eir, so it may be in the review.

Anyone else finding the new fibrerollout (map) very slow to use?

I still reckon the majority of the connections are Eir's rural customers. I get the feeling not that many customers are jumping from a true unlimited 240/360 Virgin Media connection to pay more for 150/300/1000 FTTH limited to 1tb per month.

For now even up to 100 FTTC is good enough for most urban customers and unwilling to spend an extra 10-30 per month for FTTH. Only Eir or Siro can estimate how good or bad sales of FTTH has been so far in urban areas.

However it's only a matter of time before FTTC starts to seem slow and FTTH will increase in urban areas and become more of a requirement.

Great map update but is really slow to load up...maynooth exchange is down for July 05..hope its on time.
The rollout from maynooth along the r408 is complete to the yellow line indicated on the map but eir have replaced the poles along the road for a further 1km beyond the end of the yellow line...they even have shiny new fibre brackets on them!! Are eir that confident of being awarded the NBP?

The KN crew are still doing ducting on the kilcock side of maynooth heading back towards the exchange...hope the crews get it done and don't run into two many difficulties...great to see some progress at last

I'll bet the map is just fine on an FTTH connection - eh Gonzo?

Tis not for us muckers stuck on FWA or meagre ADSL. ;)

it's not great on this end either! The fact that I can still see the grey tiles disappear one by one when i zoom in ain't good. The old map instantly loaded.

For FTTH, how is the signal delivered into your house? I have seen new cabling between telephone poles. I assume that is fibre.

What happens then at your house? Is there some sort of signal converter, before cabling it into your router. I am just trying to understand how it is delivered.

There is a distinct lack of advertising for ftth based products such as Eir's Extreme broadband. The ordinary person don't know exactly what the new cable on the poles are about. I am only learning about the the score of ftth installation by following this thread for several months now. For the post above me to explain briefly there should be black splice boxes on some of the poles including one near your house. A branch fibre cable will be wired into your house mostly by whatever route your copper cable come. A couple of converter boxes will be installed near your router presuming it in a fairly convenient location within your house. It is very likely you be supplied with a new router. There has been a lot of discussion on this matter on this thread.

Fibre cable from pole or road to ONT box then a short link to ODP box located beside your router and then to router via cat 5 All three are located side by side

I'm missing the ability the old map had of being able to zoom in/out with the middle mouse wheel!

The +/- buttons are annoying.. :(

the map loads quicker if you use the 'map' mode instead of 'satellite'.

not being able to use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom is really slow and annoying.

On another note: my mobile, a P9 Lite updated itself 2 days ago from Android 6 to Android 7 and since then the wifi issues on my phone seems much improved! The wifi now loads content almost instantly over 90% of the time. This is a huge improvement over it only working sometimes. I reckon their is still issues with the F2000, but updating the phones software to the latest version definitely helped. I am not sure if I had an update available before 2 days ago.

Also I have noticed since Monday morning, my upload speed on all speedtests on all devices is slightly faster than before. It doesn't make much difference but normally my upload would max out at around 47 meg upload, but now I'm getting very close to 49 each time, an extra 2 meg upload. Is this happening for others?

Did a check on local houses this morning.
Green on yellow line....no fibre network installed.,..no cabinet installed....yet if I check it says green is "live"
Blue on yellow line.....fibre on pole...ug cables installed....check says " second half 2017".

    Curiouser and curiouser.

Have you encountered any other issues with the F2000? I've only had mine about 3 weeks now, but recently , both myself and the missus are having problems trying to connect via wifi. It says it's connected, but no internet. I have had to switch off/on the router in order to fix the issue each time.

    Am I reading this correctly?
    https://www.talktalk.co.uk/shop/broadband/ultra

£21.70 (€24.60) per month for 900+ Mb/s FTTH in York? Seems to be symmetrical too!

Quite some difference to eir prices, if I am reading it correctly!

£26.70(€30.30) a month with TV (80 Freeview channels)

EDIT: Seems to be an 18month contract.

I haven't had the issue of trying to connect, just the issue of the wifi randomly not working from time to time on mobile devices.

Strange now that my phone got updated to the latest version of Android, that the issue appears to be fixed for now.

that seems to be the case, incredible value and they state clearly how the 'totally unlimited usage' means no data caps unlike other providers.

    Eir should take a note.

Apparently it's a trial service and TalkTalk don't make any money on it. Here is a decent article comparing FTTH services in the UK.

KN are in my village today and they told me they are running the 'sub-ducting' pipe....they have been active here for a good few weeks at this stage doing prep work. How long do you guys think it would take for the fibre cable to be deployed once the sub-duct is in place ?.....thoughts/opinions welcome
    thanks

Anything from a fortnight to a few months, all depends where the backhaul is and how far along that is
