    Thanks all.
So probably a couple of splitters needed for this scenarios so?
As there are 15 homes in your image I would say there will be four splitters used. One secondary splitter will serve four homes.

Do Eir replace the existing POTS for your landline when you order Rural FTTH or does it all go through the fibre?

Theres a side by side product where you keep the copper for phones and an all IP product where your phone is VOIP(connects to the modem).

They are moving in the direction of decommissioning copper - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=101923262

Would it not cost way less if they just did this now as they are installing everything in the house anyway?

Openeir have a USO to provide and maintain the copper network, until that changes the network remains. Providers like Vodafone, eir, Sky could of course offer VOIP via their broadband packages and bypass the copper network as Vodafone are doing in some cases now.

    Not yet.

If you get FTTH installed and move out 6 months later the next occupant can request a POTS line. Theyd then have to go and refit it if they took it out.

Once COMREG are done with the regulations they can provide AFL Voice over FTTH and pull all the copper (and sell it), but not yet.

Lots of fibre hanging from poles in Barryscourt and Ballintubber on the back road from Carrigtwohill towards Midleton. Lots of eir and contractor vans in the area over the last few weeks. Must be close to going live I'd say. Haven't seen any fibre hanging near to Midleton yet.

Was over in Barryscourt this morning and there were 3 vans over there working on installing the splitter boxes. Got talking to the engineers and they were telling me that they were ahead of the schedule they have been given but no idea of go live dates. They have really made significant progress over the past couple of weeks.
What timeline are people seeing between the installation of the splitter boxes and first connections ?

In Ballybrittas, they cleaned the route through the trees during the Summer. Then in December they installed the Cable and Splitter Boxes on the Poles. Last Thursday Eir Reps came around and said we can order the FTTH from tomorrow (20th Feb). So to answer your question about 2 months.

In South Roscommon, the fibres were originally installed in early October and reinstalled in January, quickly followed by the installation of the splicing boxes and going live 22 February with home connections expected to start 8 March.

So regarding the actual install, do they terminate the fibre at the service box at the side of the house or do they run it right into an NTU in your house? The reason I am asking is that there is a long CAT 5e cable run between my service box and the NTU and so I am wondering if I need to ensure that I provide an easy way for them to pull the fibre into the house along the same route. Does anyone have pictures or an install that they could share

According to facebook last night.. Councillor Joe Byrne, Kinvara is 5 weeks away
(although last year, he shared a date of May 16..).
"EIR have informed me this evening that residents within 1.5km radius of Kinvara can order Fibre in 5 weeks time ( fibre to exchange almost complete)
At the same time very unhappy that certain areas in the locality are not being connected with fibre to the home by EIR at present. Makes no sense no matter whatever the excuse they give."

He mentioned in a follow up reply that "FFTH will be available for ordering in June".

I knew it was to good to be true i went on to Eir website to chat online, no record of my order so i had to place it again. To be fair to them I got an extra €10 for the first 3 months so i am paying €55 for the first 3 months and €75 thereafter I know its more expensive than Vodafone but they can only off me 15MB

did you originally get confirmation email when you first placed the order, i'm just wondering how did the original order not go through their system.

I got talking to a couple of contractors from MCP (McCann?) doing some work on the Castlebar Road outside Westport yesterday. They said they were doing some work for Eir laying down ducting for Fibre. They didn't have any idea when the fibre would be laid. However I noticed some markings on poles near my house - the one my house is connected to has an "E" and "PP" sprayed in blue paint. There's some sort of cable tied up to the pole at the end of the road and the grass and muck etc. around the Eir manhole had been cleared away.

Is it time for me to get cautiously optimistic at this stage?!

My crappy 4mb connection is even worse than usual these days and Imagine are offering up to 70mb on LTE. Decisions!

you have got activity happening at your pole for fibre work and you are thinking about going to imagine...crazy thinking that is..hang in there its probably only around the corner, be it a month to 6 months..We have 4mb connection too and fibre activity could be a year away..and not going with imagine cause I know from previous companies we can't get a wireless signal due to trees, but even if we could, it would be a sit and wait for the fibre

so ordering online doesn't necessarily always work first time? If I don't get a confirmation email then chat to the Eir 'experts' online?

line checker for me still says no and no sign of any reps in area.

Cable team in Crushoa, Kinvara today, putting up actual cable on the poles. The cable is surprisingly thin. What is the next stage? Should I get excited? z7DaDFo.jpgbQV3raH.jpgI9eqM60.jpg

If by excited for the long term in that you'll be getting fibre then yes but in the really short term not so much - could still take months. Read back a page or so on this thread for our experiences

Your images aren't showing by the way

it can be at least a 3 month wait after the cable and splice boxes go up, unless your road is the very last route to be worked on in the exchange. Most people in our area have been sitting and waiting since mid November-early December.

The manhole team were back up by Ballybuck, i thought they had finished ages ago but this time they dug up the road and laid new ducting as well as building manholes. There must have been a section so badly damaged it needed total replacement. All looks to be done now so hoping that cable crew make their way up in the near future.

June does seem reasonable at this stage for Kinvarra.
