Have absolutely 100% no problem anyone using that much over UPC its a strong wired network unlike 3's service. BTW, theres a fair usage policy on UPC in which your not allowed to use VPN on there network. I can only assume they would be having words with you if your causing issues on there network. If its that much a problem complain to the government body that control advertising.

And your right they probably shouldn't and you probably shouldn't be downloading 200GB worth of data on there network either.

I'M not downloading 200GB per month.

He doesn't need the porn when I've gone to bed! That's just for when I'm not around :P

I've been on that deal for years. It's also very handy if you're in the UK at all, as well as a few others, Italy for example, in that you can use your internet like you would at home.

I done the same for Tinder, just send a copy of your Agecard to them over email, and chat to them online with your email reference number. Block is lifted within 24 hours.

Can anybody shed some light on this please?

Three have a block on their mobile internet to stop you looking at adult sites etc. I wanted to get this taken off. Not to use those sites but just because Tinder doesn't work when I'm out and about which is quite annoying. I went into a three store and asked the guy about removing it and he said, "yes we can remove that no problem. You just need to bring in your passport so we can photocopy it and send it to head office". He couldn't even tell me why they needed a copy of it but there is no way I'm giving them that! I told him I could bring my passport in and show it to him to prove my age but he still insisted a copy was needed! WHY??

Not applied to contract, because you have to be over 18 to sign a contract. They automatically apply it to prepay until, you prove you are over 18.

Sounds like you have a faulty modem. Could happen with any network to be fair.

Used to use nearly hundreds of GB on this at one stage and never an issue.

    Great offer.

Dont forget also that on this deal with three, you can also use the €20 "free" credit on the google play store if you sign in over 3g. This allows you buy apps, pay for subs like play music and spotify premium etc.

    Pretty handy for that also.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭daytob

So does it come with 4g?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,162 ✭✭✭RobertFoster

Yes. If your device can support it.

You actually don't even need to be on their network to do it.

Just set it up once over 3/4G and then you'll find that when you sign into your Play account it'll be listed as a payment method and you can use it over WiFi.

Seems like a good deal. What modems do people recommend? There are 3 modems available on three.ie - e50, e70 and e140. Are there better options on Amazon etc?

Do I just buy a prepay phone SIM and fire it in the modem?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,565 ✭✭✭enfant terrible

Can I just buy a sim, install in phone and tether to laptop then to have unlimited data or do i need a modem?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 119 ✭✭mdudy

You tether without a modem provided your phone has that feature.

Long-term its not an ideal solution though. Your battery life will take a hit over time.

These mobile data limits are a joke anyway

3g is supposed to be capable of about 8mbs, but most of the time you'll be lucky to get 4mbs consistently

If you're get 4mbs connection on 3g and your download limit is 15gb per month then you could technically exceed your entire months usage in about 1 hour of using the service.

How can they sell a product that is supposed to last a month, but is used up in less than an hour?

It's much much worse for 4g
If you use 4g your monthly 15gb allowance could be used up in 3 minutes if you somehow managed to get the 75mbs they claim to offer.
Never let a maths fail go unchallenged, even after 3 months.

You are out by a factor of 10.

If someone would be so kind to explain to an otherwise dumb user like myself.
I switched to this prepaid plan yesterday (first time without a monthly bill).
I'm not likely to use the €20 monthly credit on calls outside those already covered. How can I use the €20 to pay my spotify premium fee. I don't have a google account. Thanks

It'd be a tenner if you went through Google Play via 3.

You should get a Vodafone sim, top it up, sign up for their Spotify offer and you'll get each month for a fiver instead.

I know it sounds a pain but just think of it that for every one month you'd pay for through Google Play you'd get 2 through Vodafone and that's well worth the hassle!

How does this work, would this work, say I pick up a vodafone payg sim, top it up by €30, obviously the €5 would be taken for the Spotify premium service, if I then just left the sim sitting there, would I then get another 5 months worth of Spotify from the remaining €25 or does it require some sort of monthly top up?

    Thanks

Yeah, it will work like this for six months. You need to top up once every six months to keep the SIM active. So after six months, just top up by another €30 and the cycle continues.

Signal and speed improve greatly if you use their Huawei Base station router device. I was getting about 6 meg on tethered phone on 4g, getting 30meg with the router. I am in a relatively poor signal area though. Not sure if you would see an improvement if you are getting full signal

Can I just clarify....maybe I was reading some of the posts incorrectly. If I sign up with Three or Vodafone payg say for 20 a month and they allow 5gb are u saying that they will actually allow me to go over the 5gb?

With Three, yes, as they operate a fair usage policy of 15GB and not a strict limit.

    With Vodafone, no.
