Hmm. Hadn't thought that there might be a variation in how long the charge holds.

I'm all for rechargeable AA/AAA batteries and a charger. Can carry spares on a long spin and can replace worn out batteries with a new set.

My spare rear light is a Smart Lunar R2 (non usb).

My main rear light is a dynamo light which never needs batteries. Large-ish initial investment what with dynamo wheel and all but well worth it...

Did you get it in Amazon or is it available here, if you don't mind my asking?

(I mean the Smart Lunar, not the dynamo; my dynamo days left me, along with my dynamism.)

Hmm, though it's described as 'blinding'. I don't really want a blindingly bright light, wouldn't think it safe for drivers? The ideal would be a bright light, easily seen from back and side, and preferably (if not too dear) those ones that are standard in Japan that respond automatically to darkening to turn on at night, and that turn off automatically if your bike is still for more than 30 seconds or so.

we're heading to lisbon for a few days, and i found this on one travel site:
"Although most Lisbon drivers will be cautious and polite with pedestrians, they are generally very disrespectful and intolerant towards cyclists and will frequently heckle them and display aggressive behaviour. Situations where cyclists are assaulted or even thrown off the road by car drivers are common.

Cycling in Lisbon is pleasant and danger-free in parks and near the river, but it is generally a dangerous activity elsewhere in the city centre and other areas where bike lanes are still not available. "

we won't be hiring bikes so.

    Amazon.

Used on steady mode it's not blinding unless you stare into it. Its random mode is pretty good at drawing the eye too.

Also check out the rear carrier mount. Essential if you have a carrier...

I use steady mode. I think it's unmissable, but not distracting. It's a perfect light, from my point of view. Being able to buy AAAs in the event of the rechargeable AAAs running out unexpectedly is a bonus too, as you say.

The standard mounts that come with it can be used on a rear rack if you use a split cork:

Works on smaller-bore tubing too, but I don't have a picture of that handy.

The £8 carriage fee cuts out Amazon; same with some crowd who sell it in Lucan.

    Cheaper to use parcel motel?

Not really. £4 delivery fee from Amazon then €4.50 from Parcel Motel. They're offering me free delivery with Amazon Prime, but I'm suspicious and too lazy to see what that is or if there's any advantage. Would really prefer to cycle over to a local bike shop if possible.

It may need to be tilted up a bit - you could be gradually sliding forward.

Moved it back a little, which on first try feels a bit better. Might be partly to do with taking the eight saddle covers off, of course.

By the way, has anyone seen any YouTube videos on fixing bikes by people with 'RP' type accents? Having found a French-language one on changing a chain fairly easy to follow, I'd like to offer one to my language partner, but so far have found only Strine, Deep South and Cockney instructionals.

Add another 3 quid or so of order and you should get free delivery from Amazon (never pay them for delivery myself - always make sure my orders are over £20, and will add some consumables if necessary to get me there) - you just need to ensure it's sold or fulfilled by Amazon - you don't need to join Amazon Prime

Ordered the Smart Lunar; there was a cheaper one with two half-watts, but went for the one recommended; added in some Sealskinz all-season gloves.

Dublin Fire Brigade advise cyclists to always wear a helmet.
I don't know, how this crash would have been avoided, by the wearing of a helmet, but I'm sure, they know best.

Yes, the sky could have fallen in and chicken licken could have been killed.

It is such a stupid statement.

Bring cars in it and everything else goes out window, a plane, train etc ends up killing someone and we have a mass investigation, car kills someone and we just accept it as a terrible thing but ah sure.

In this case a good comment was the one, it was irrelevant what the cyclist did or didn't do, the car hit the cyclist and that shouldn't happen, it sickens me that cars always have priority over any other road user.

it was actually the use of 'of' instead of 'have' which was my immediate beef...

How long should a look keo cleat last?

I've barely done about 1000 km and the right one needs replacing. I only click in and out with the right foot so it makes sense that one would wear first.

Do you do much walking around in them? I've no idea how long I get but I'd estimate around 4-5k and that's with some walking at coffee stops etc.

Swap them over if the right is still clicking in to even wear.

Yikes. I do absolutely no walking as I rarely stop while out. I'll swap them over. That's a good idea cheers

Ye - I was moaning about this on another thread - I got knocked off by a last minute left turner - the amount of people that have said since - you should have been wearing a helmet is infuriating.. where.. on my fecked up ankle? or round my shoulder? as they hurt the most!
