Good, maybe they'll accept the emigrants €70k now, or maybe €60!

He has your offer of 70k and that's all you know for sure . Tell him it still stands but if he doesn't deal soon you have progressed to buy something else in the UK. Nothing worse than auctioneers ringing you up like that . If he knew you had 70 and he is offered 75 let him go with it and not be wasting your time

Your father's offer of 70 k was used at the auction as the "opening" bid, I bet. Now he wants you to bid against yourself.

Neighbour farm went up for sale couple of years ago ,i went away and got approved for loan and put in a strong bid of 11k per acre and was told by auctioneer there was higher bid so i backed out . Farm still up for sale following year with a different auctioneer and sold for 9 k. I was half sorry but the best plan might be to approach land owner and deal privately

we had similar experience at home.. guy was looking for 20k an acre - guy selling though celtic tiger was still in town.. I offered 15k (still High) no deal was done. In the meantime I bought better land for 10k an acre, recently at auction the land I offered 15k for was sold for 11k an acre

All down to greed. I wouldnt blame estate agents for this though. They only get paid if there is an actual sale. It must be intensely frustrating to have a willing buyer available only to have them turned down by the vendor, knowing that the property is likely to be left unsold as a result.
