Tyres aren't right.. Wires coming through on one side of each good tyre.. I had a look and the alloys are stamped"made in Italy"

they look like 14's so you can probably reuse your old tyres anyway?

if we are guessing potential brand names, i'l go with momo.

As soon as he stopped, he put on the "leave your hat on" song and started dancing in the car before the guard came over. :pac:

How much do cans of MAF sensor cleaner usually cost? The ones at my local motor factors were €20. Seemed a bit much.

What's in it? Surly something that's not named as a MAF spray would do the same job?

It's some sort of quick drying cleaner. The MAF sensor is quite delicate so I don't really want to risk using anything else.

I looked into this and numerous online people suggested electrical contact cleaner from maplin
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-contact-cleaner-200ml-n61

They also do a bigger can of wd40 branded contact cleaner which wasn't bad value the day I went in, if you are they type of person with a lot of electrical contacts to clean.

You wouldn't need the whole tin of the maplin stuff really imo. Probably a good distance from you to nearest maplin but maybe there is a diy or co-op store with the wd40 stuff local? Then again it may just work out for ya to order specific stuff online and wait for it.

The wd40 contact cleaner didn't do any harm to a tmap sensor but they less finicky than a hit wire MAF I guess. Didn't do any good either unfortunately, the root cause was somewhere else it seems.

Do not use standard wd40 obviously. The contact cleaner doesnt leave any residue, which is important (mostly isopropyl alcohol in aerosol form id say). Brake/clutch cleaner also a no no.

    Lots of words

Thanks for that. There's a co-op place nearby, I'll have a look there tomorrow.

Ordering online probably wouldn't end well. I once ordered caliper paint and it got stopped by the customs and they got rid of it. Ordering that can from Maplin would be €10.80 and that's cheaper than any can from eBay.

I'll look at the co-op first and then see.

Would you not have a look at a motor factors?

I would say electrical contact cleaner would cost somewhere between €5 and €8.

I was there today, I was looking for MAF cleaner though (which was €20), not contact cleaner.

Sigh the missus wants me to start looking at replacing her workhorse of a car with something bigger. Pity as the GP has actually been a nice reliable car.
So, the requirements - climate control as a must, big enough to fit a pram in the boot and have 5 doors and isn't a MPV or SW as I'm driving the SW.
Took a gander around and I reckon I could get 3.5k euro for the GP and then lob on another 1k and could get a nice Avensis liftback or.. and this is where I lose patience talking to women.. a Polo.. The complete fecking opposite of her requirements.

Reading from the NCT report, what Mm should the rear shocks be under to class as good. Think I heard someone say if they are under 30Mm they are performing well.

I was standing in an apple green service station this evening and most will agree Renault have come a long way in recent years reliability wise. But this 02 Laguna drove in sounded like a bag of spanners he put on the indicator and loads of random bulbs were flashing car actually started chugging at low speed. All I could think is that Renault won't be sorry when the last of them and the phase 1 mk2 meganes have gone to the scrapyard. It's like a constant reminder of thier unreliable past and the fcuk ups they made driving around haunting them.

It's a pity they were a bit rubbish. I always thought they have aged well. Well in looks. Clearly not in the electrical dept.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,086 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

Well I know of a Mk1 Laguna turbo diesel with 300k miles and the owner has no plans of getting rid

And a 19 1.4 petrol with 180k on original clutch, box and engine apparently!

But I think it was a bit into the 00s things really started going bad

It's a pity alright. Same with the mk2 Megane I always thought they were quirky something a bit different when compared to the golf, Astra, focus and I suppose you either loved or hated the back of them whereas with the mk3 they kind of over compensated and played it very safe with the back of them. At least they have learned from their mistakes but the stereotype is well and truly sticking with them mainly down to the oh John down in the pub said all renaults are sh!te even though he knows nothing about cars everyone seems to listen to him.

Someone straight out said to me today that it was amazing I have the Megane 8 months and haven't had any electrical trouble with it they were shocked :pac:

It's funny, we had perfectly reliable Mk1 and Mk2 Laguna's for 3 years each as company cars. The Mk2 gave one days bother in the engine which was soon rectified but that was it. In similar vein we had a reliable 407 1.6HDi for 3 years too, again as a company car and now it's still in the extended family going as well as ever!

Some of the Lagunas were like that you could be lucky with the electrics but in saying that if you were only keeping them for 3 years then they wouldn't really have been old enough to cause many problems. I'm suprised the 407 1.6 Hdi has been so good I know minding them helps but even then they can be a disaster both the car and engine. They are actually a nice car though if you forget about reliability.

would it not be better to spend a little more and get a half decent one if you like those models. Probably be more economical tbh
