Ultimate troll get out of jail free card.Used too much around here where someone makes a sweeping statement that will piss the world off and then just says that.If its that blatant then there should be something done by mods, especially if its a common thing by posters. Not that I feel you do it lots but there is a few that only come on to twist knives!

I still don't understand how some people can't control themselves. Woe betide someone might annoy you

This is an online Forum. If you don't like what someone says just ignore it. You're not a child. Running to the Moderators and telling tales on other posters is rather pathetic imo

I don't run to mods at all, i just think that people could refrain from carrying on like idiots.
So rather than asking the idiots to stop you think we all should just deal with it?

That's good root cause problem solving there :)

I didn't mean any offence to you Focus but it annoys me when some people can't just accept what others have to say, even if they think they're talking sh1t. I couldn't give a damn who says what on here. If someone allows themselves to get wound up by others on an MB then there's something wrong with them.

Let people talk. If you don't like what they're saying just move onto the next posts. Simples :)

Can we talk about cars/petrol/tax/speeding again please. By discussing the alleged trolls like this they are taking up more of our time.

Here's a picture of a dog enjoying some exhaust heat

I am, seriously good show. Amazon haven't confirmed when S02 is starting though or if it will even go ahead. I'm 2 episodes shy of the finale.
Watching Under The Dome and The Strain too :D

Did a binge of TMITHC there while storm Desmond passed by, interesting show. Halfway through the existing episodes so it was surprising/disappointing to realise there may not be a series 2 - feels like it's just getting going now.

I have to say I think there has been a big improvement in the amount of cars going around with blown bulbs doesn't seem to be as bad at all this winter obviously still a few.

One thing I've noticed is the amount of cars going around with bald tyres is very bad and when I say bald I don't mean 1.5mm I mean little to no thread left. The minute the rain comes you hear the cars skidding to a halt and wheels spinning going up wet hills. Saddest thing is a lot of the time it's family cars and 7 seaters.

I don't know how anyone in their right mind would bring their kids around in a dangerous car. I mean the not knowing much about cars is used as an excuse a lot I think that's bullsh!t if your single you should take responsibility for your car or if your in a relationship one person needs to take responsibility for the maintenance of the car same way as often one person takes care of the finances. I mean I know you get some people where money is tight but tyres aren't a luxury and there are a lot where money is not an issue still doing it.

The spinning wheels in the wet is due to the sheer amount of cars that don't have traction control in this country.

Maybe your right but still with decent tyres they shouldn't spin under normal acceleration surly ? im not talking about hard acceleration.

    LIGHTNING wrote: »
It's not about the hard acceleration its that initial burst of power that gets sent to the wheels. In wet weather up hill its very easy to overcome the limit of the tyres grip if you jump off the clutch quick enough. Add in the cold weather and I would expect it to happen in most economy cars without traction.. My parents 1.4 Fabia used to light up its front so easily, same goes with the KIA they now have. If your interested have a look up of Coefficient of friction :)

He's a mechanical engineer so he probably has more than an idea what the coefficient of friction is! :pac:

In my experience cars like that will only spin in the wet in "normal" conditions with sh!t tyres on them.

I am well aware of how the coefficient of friction works alright :) but no I get what your saying alright about the lack of traction control in this country. I could spin the wheels fairly readily in my Astra with my traction control and that was only 1.3. In saying all that I'm not even basing my comment on a lot of cars having bald tyres on the fact you see them spin more on the fact the amount of parked cars you see with bald tyres is unbelievable it seems to be only get worse. Whereas I can honestly say I haven't seen as many cars with blown at all this years and I do most of my driving in the dark.

I think he's chemical rathe then mechanical :)

I wouldn't hang around with such types :pac:

    You're an engineer too right?

Thought he was mechanical too. Believe it or not i've been wrong before! so it might happen again

Yep chemical and process :) although I've done my fair share of mech modules actually had an exam in one this morning mechanical design of process equipment which is; membrane stress, theories of failure, pressure vessels, bending in pipes, wind loading, thermal expansions and the stress that causes, bending in agitators. A sweet taster of what you mech boys get upto :)

We finished up with stuff like the following. .

Taking water before and after a hydro dam, figure how much energy is dissipated from it as it goes through the process.
We'd have to take the fall including turns, specific fan blades spinning at x velocity and with x efficiency etc.

Nightmare of 5 exam pages and 60 mins work :)

Ye it's only the fundamental mechanical stuff we do in order to be able to say if something is safe in terms of loading vs wall thickness actual stress vs allowable etc kind of the useful basics really you know be able to calculate wall thickness in vessels/ pipes heat exchangers. Stress in bolted flanged appropriate number of bolts and torque value for each bolt that kind of stuff.

Obviously we don't touch dams or any of the renewables that's a whole other ball game. There is energy engineering in UCC but from what I can see there is little mech in it but a good bit of electrical it's not that popular of a course.

Lol well then he knows what I am talking about:pac: Also you have to remember that a lot of Irish cars are paddy spec so 14" or 15" narrow profile tyres too. Doesn't take much to overwhelm them in the wet.

I have 16 inch wheels and 200+ hp. No TC. OK it's divided across 4 wheels rather than 2 but each wheel is still putting down more per wheel than paddy spec heavier cars. I'm siding with the crap tyres theory!

So 24h or so into my demufflered non res V8 im already planning on putting miltek backbox back on. Wayyyyyy too mad. Its the lack of a resonator that ruins it which is a pity. Can't drive car over 2500rpm or it sounds like an elephant blowing a trumpet in a blender on even mid throttle :p

Will get a proper vid before I swap back but there is no substitute for the ear shattering reality of it in person.

    But yea

    Nope :p
