I've no interest in the multiplayer, so i'll wait and see what the single player is like.

When the first few MP trailers came out, I mentioned that it looked a bit - or alot - like Halo. Cue quite a bit of outrage on the gaming forum, very much a 'how dare I confuse such an FPS legend with Halo'. Then I read the reviews on steam, and here's what I read from the first few pages.

it's getting hammered by user reviews on steam

I wonder what Carmack thinks of it. As it stands now, looks like one to pick up in a Steam sale in a couple of years. :(

Well, I just played half an hour of it and I'm speechless.

It looks, feels and sounds like itit came out around 2007/2008 - it's honestly, no exaggeration, like an indie MP title you'd pay 9.99 for on Steam.

How did they get it so wrong? I'm not even talking from a 'Doom' point of view - at this stage I'm purely talking from a games point of view.

It's fun enough, but nowhere near where it should be.

Sad to see this happen to Doom.

For me this new Doom was one of those games that I would pick up later down the line when its around 25 quid as I was interested in Arena shooter. After watching "worth a buy" fella on youtube I am completely turned of it.

Just by looking at footage in video you can see how Doom is just made for modern console gamer and completely ruined Arena shooter. He got Footage of Quake 3 and New Doom.

The range is horrible. Its clearly built up that enemies would be close to you, so models are big to hit.
FOW makes it so painful even to watch.
2 weapon limit and loud outs.... **** off now. It was supposed to be arena shooter. So Weapons are Balanced on loud outs level, not on how hard to get or master a weapon.

That guy's criticism of the demon rune makes zero sense since he thinks quad damage is fine. They're the exact same idea.

Watched a stream of it at the weekend from the Z Live guys (Quake Arena specialists). It looks really, really awful. Zero interest in this, no idea what they were thinking pushing out a game that looks ten years out of date.

I think it's just a symptom of the homogenization of the AAA games industry. I had zero interest in most shooters these days because of how samey everything's been, but I suppose that does make it all the easier for a good one to stand out when it comes along. I was cautiously optimistic about Doom because of how incredible Wolfenstein: The New Order was, but my interest has seriously waned since, and unless it has an absolutely stellar singleplayer campaign, I doubt it'll rekindle my interest at all.

Wolfenstein is ten times better looking (I mean in terms of engaging the imagination) than this new Doom though. It just looked boringly average in a world where Wolf exists.

I think the demon rune lasts until a player is killed and then gets passed on to the player that killed them though does it? Does that occur with the quad damage too?

Wow that looks terrible! I won't be buying that so. I don't understand how a developer can get it so wrong.

Looking forward to the Angry Joe review of this.

Doom 3 was actually the last game I bought for PC outside of the FM series. I think they have missed a massive trick here by not looking at Brutal Doom, seeing what worked, hard difficulty, gore, metal and doing that.

Whats with your enemies shining when you hit them, also the bodies disappearing? Serious lack of gore, though it does look a lot quicker than Doom 3, and graphics look great, though generic.

Look at that.... No 1440p resolution. Only up to 1080p native

Looks nice though and plays smoothly.

Apparently the single player campaign is excellent. Makes me much more tempted to buy it now.

Polygon are apparently getting slated for their "playthrough" recently, in which the apparent reviewer is incapable of moving and shooting at the same time.

Watching a stream of Cohh Carnage playing it for the last couple of hours - he just got to Hell. It looks a lot more fun than I expected, but believe it or not the music is the standout feature for me. I never say this, but I'd really fancy getting a hold of the soundtrack.

Its good fun in SP, havent tried MP but it plays like doom and runs like doom.

Pro Tip: Dont stop moving ever!!!

Mick Gordon, the composer for the game, is actually releasing some short videos about the soundtrack, the first of which went up on Thursday. May be of interest to you...

Got it yesterday, think my pc is finally showing it's age, have it on high with gtx670 and 2500k and seems to be a little sluggish even with mouse movements, hoping it just needs updated graphics drivers when i get home later.
Good game though, got it purely by TB's recommendation
