Max Deegan would probably have been ahead of him anyway but a pity to see him give it up in the right structure he could have developed nicely. Academies & sub academies overflowing with back rows at the moment after a few lean years 5 or 6 years ago

He quit because he didn't have the discipline to be a pro rugby.. no structure would have changed that.

Also ulster have no backrows. So system not over flowing even if leinsters is.

You didn't know Gordon Darcy or Heaslip in their early years so

Different standard these days.. trayers quit because he didn't want to train and do what was necessary.

Ah that's a shame, especially for someone with his physical abilities, the seven for ospreys that played against leinster last week and outplayed O'Brien is qualified this year for under 20s, he also captained england at u18 level, scary prospect for our lads.
Any ideas what Irelands backrow is likely to be this year?, I know deagan will be 8 , but im not really sure who the other guys are including if there ball carriers or ground hogs etc it seems to be between these guys: browne, cosgrove, reilly, connors and Aspil

GO check your hole then mate, he did

Underhill seems real deal alright, funnily enough he can't get called up for England senior squad for next 3 years as he is has signed 3 Year contract with Brigend/Ospreys
So by the end of his contract he will be 22 and uncapped and eligible for Wales (unless America can convince him to play for them as he was born there)

  • Registered Users Posts: 18 Selliott190

Never said he wasn't good but to claim he outplayed SOB given leinsters dominance at the breakdown is laughable. Just another person who sees a young player and thinks he is spotting a future great because said young player has a good game.

Wales announce their squad sometime this week.

It's amazing how many SH's and opensides Wales produce, it's like a conveyor belt with a new talent every year.

Don't know about injuries but I think Johnny Williams is the only one who'll miss out due to being kept back for his club.

Ryan, Deegan and Jack Power impressed in school, interesting to see how they look at this level.

    14 Leinster
    7 Munster
    4 connacht
    4 Ulster

Munsters best representation in a while i'd have thought. Might be getting things together at underage after a few quiet years.

What was the name of the Blackrock and Clongowes Hookers last year SCT? both looked good. Are they involved?

8 Munster. Still major flaws in overall system in Munster...
1 exile and 6 came through the clubs.
Both of those hookers played the interpros but Munster hooker Fenton and Ulster McBurney are in the squad

Interestingly Charlie McMickan formerly Buccaneers, now playing with Lansdowne is in the provisional squad for Canada u20s

Great achievement for Sligo in being 2nd most represented club in the squad (alongside Con)

I'd imagine Bill Johnson would have made the squad if he wasn't injured.

5 Connacht actually, Peter Claffey is in the Connacht academy, wrongly listed as Leinster.

    By "join Leinster" you mean?
No he hasn't changed affiliation. He is playing club rugby in Munster. isn't in academy. Likely to be in Munster's sub academy. Its a typo

I think you know what I meant considering you answered it.
That's a relief then, looking forward to seeing how he gets on.

I didn't and was just querying how you phrased the question...

1 Jan for Inter pro's and International. Club wise it differs between Leinster and Munster. Munster being 1 Jan and Leinster being 30 June.

Leinster 1st July or 30June not that it makes huge difference...
All international rugby is 1/1 and that's to do with world competitions and SH being calendar year seasons.
Leinster have the extra 6 months as they have player depth to do so. Not the case in Munster...

For some reason I am not particularly excited about the 20s this year and think it will be an average enough team which probably means they will have great season:)
