Caitlyn Jenner ESPN 'courage' award rigged in exchange for exclusive interview

Caitlyn Jenner presented a rousing speech while accepting ESPYS courage award on Wednesday night.

But all was not as it seemed.

Accusations have been made that the award was rigged and Jenner's rep asked ESPN to give her the award in exchange for PR plugs for her new show and an upcoming interview with Diane Sawyer.

Whatever your opinions on the whole transgender issue, this is utterly pathetic. Although not entirely surprising, considering the mentality of the Jenner and Kardashian clan.

Yes, it was a big personal change for Jenner. But to suggest this was somehow deserving of a bravery award is a farce, an embarrassment, and a disgusting and sneaky thing to do by Caitlyn and her PR people.

They basically hijacked a bravery award for personal gain and publicity.

Now I know there will be those who consider any criticism of transgender people here as transphobic, but this is beyond the pale in my opinion. And fwiw, I would consider myself a supporter of equality. What I don't support is people hijacking legitimate causes for their own agenda.

Previous winners of the Arthur Ashe courage award include Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali, Pat and Kevin Tillmann, and the passengers of Flight 93 on 9/11:

Do you ever get the feeling you've been had?

Note: Please, please, PLEASE don't let this degenerate into transgender bashing, or loosely throwing about the 'transphobic' label because someone you support is being legitimately criticised on their manipulative actions. We are discussing the actions here of an individual, not their sex or gender.
    Thank you.

If true, then it truly spits in the face of what courage and bravery actually are.

It's also important to remember that Jenner killed someone. Hit their car and pushed it into oncoming traffic. This has been forgotten in the hero worship. Should be in jail, not getting an award.

The Kardashian clan are attention whores and total bores. She's not that courageous. Even if she is rejected by friends and family she has the Kardashians and celebrity status as a safety net. Something 99.9% of transsexuals don't have. She also has no financial worries unlike most transexuals who experience a high level of employment discrimination. The award was a joke regardless of whether it was rigging or not.

Sinéad O'Connor's rant, which was equally as attention seeking, should be rendered null & void when you remember that that very same magazine had a glam picture of the Boston Marathon Bomber on its front cover, making him look like a rock star.

While her speech was powerful if it was rigged the organisers should be ashamed of themselves.

My personal take on the whole thing is that if someone wants to change gender go for it it's a personal decision and has no real impact on other people beyond their sensibilities and desire to be offended.
On the other hand I am sick of hearing about jenner not because I have a problem with the decision but because the only way there will be acceptance for things like this is when it isn't a big deal.
He wanted to become a woman now he is great doesn't need to be in the news and it doesn't require a reality show about her going shopping etc... That just puts it in the spotlight and opens it up for hateful people to be ignorant about it.

In relation to the actual award it's a complete disgrace for her to be put into a category with the previous winners of it and shows just how desperate for attention that whole family are.

Commercial organisation in profited-motivated decision shocker.

I ask you to punch a 90 year old woman in the face. You do it. Which of us is worse?

Fact is, at this stage it's simply "Accusations have been made...", but even so, which is worse; Jenner (or Jenner's rep) asking ESPN to do it, or ESPN for actually doing it?

Eh, both are pretty pathetic and very self-entitled. I am pretty fed up with hearing about the whole clan at this stage. I will not attack Jenner for being transgender, or make snarky comments about the Olympic awards won while being in a male body, but I'm quite happy to dislike the person based on their personality and decisions and -if this is true-, it's pretty disgraceful.

I reckon true equality is to be able to have an asshole in the ranks and their actions to not automatically speak for the entire group. -If this is true-, then Jenner's a bit of an asshole.

Obama is one of the least controversial recipients of it. One could argue that special interests have been motivating the nobel award for the best part of a century, and Obama's is nothing new.

This. She should be in jail as she is responsible for killing that woman. Also her two youngest were filmed during the week driving recklessly with their feet hanging out the window as the drove around LA. Disgusting family. Wish they would all go away.

Most awards are commercially motivated, a bar I ran once won the Tennent's pub of the year. I could say it was because I am the greatest barman of all time, but in reality it was because we sold the most Tennent's.

Why was what Kanye West said cut from the end of the video of the award ceremony?

Its always been controversial but Obama was a new low, he hadn't actually done anything when he was nominated. Kissinger was Machiavellian realpolitik player but at least he was doing stuff (good and bad), at the time he was nominated all Obama had done was say "Change" a lot and been African-American.

I'm a full supporter of transgender rights but I'm so over Caitlyn Jenner. I completely appreciate she's having the time of her life being her true self and making up for lost time but the exploitation of her story is getting ridiculous.

People are discussing this like it actually means anything. An award given by a sports channel is completely meaningless, as are whatever reasons behind who was chosen.

But Obama stands out for two significant reasons. Firstly, his arse had barely warmed the seat in the oval Office and he got an award for nothing. And secondly, no recipient has ever spewed as much hypocritical horseshít about peace, hope, change and the rest of his usual nonsense.

It was compounded by Jenner though. The vehicles in front of Jenner had to brake suddenly, Jenner was texting and didn't realise this and thus collided into the vehicle in front. He/she is responsible.

actually, jenner was cleared because she wasnt texting, on a call, drunk or high. they had nothing on her. there were multiple cars involved, and the only one of the drivers to be found breaking a law was the driver of the car who was killed. they had a suspended licence at the time for a previous speeding offence.
jenner was cleared because they didnt cause the crash, hence they are NOT responsible for killing someone.

but i suppose, you wouldnt have been able to argue with people then would you?

The suspended license didn't kill her though, Jenner's ineptitude did. He was papped texting approx ten seconds before the crash, but not at the exact (estimated) time of the crash. He was incompetent, and the way he has acted subsequent to that is disgusting, denying all responsibility and making out that because she (the deceased) had a suspended licence she is responsible for her own death. If her license was never suspended she would still be dead now.

Authorities said he wasn't texting or using his phone at the time that's last I heard .again it was a simple RTA but he/she's entitled to a trial first before been found guilty

Jenner was not cleared of fault and did cause the crash. A charge of vehicular manslaughter is expected.
