I'd like to know too. If anyone wants to pm me the name that'd be great.
We haven't had a takeaway in months so would be very disappointed if we got a bad 1.

I lived in Castlebar for a year or so and found both Lana and the Olive Tree to be very very good.

In Ballina now; Bisini, Everest and Thai Guy To Go are all very nice

Okay - Mods please remove if this breaks charter rules. I am disappointed to say Dhaka Indian Restaurant has really gone downhill. It is a shame as it was our go to Indian in Castlebar. Basically we will not be returning as it's utter crap.

Ah that's sad, I had a few early last year and it was quality, but the service was shocking, very rude staff so I was hesitant to return.

I also got a take away from Lana and it was poor. When I told the people that recommended it they said to eat in as take away is not as good.

I must be in the minority. Dhaka has been my go to indian restaurant in Castlebar for time eternal and I've never experienced such issues.

I've eaten in Everest in Westport once previously.

    Very nice.

    No issues with Lana either.

Have to say I'm the same. I'm tempted to try it now. Maybe it's gone to pot of a few recent takeaways are poor

Won't name it but there is a takeaway/restaurant we used frequent all the time in Westport.

Suddenly the chicken breast used wouldn't be trimmed, so you could be eating away and then bite into a big chunk of the breast gristle. ****ing rank.

Can not understand what they do be thinking putting this into their food.

Wouldn't mind but when I said it to them nicely, they looked at me like I had two heads.

The Indian takeaway in Claremorris . Very good . Think it’s dawat. It would best Everest in westport .
Had it 3 times in the last year . Very good . Would be more only for lockdowns .

Was the same for me until 2 weekends ago... 3 of the 4 dishes went straight into the bin. An animal wouldn't have eaten the chicken.

It was like it was boiled, frozen and then blasted in the microwave... pure rubber. Was really disgusted with it and won't be going back.

I've always found Tulsi to be the best for Indian in castlebar. Dhaka has been fine any time I've had it too though tbh. Been a good few months since I've had either though as herself isn't big on Indian.

We'd get a takeaway once a month pre-lockdown and always found Tulsi good too. Tried a few and Dhaka was decent at the time.
When the spice house first opened it was really good but went downhill after a year or so.

Best Indian I have found lately is the Taj Mahal in Kiltimagh. Excellent quality meat, good selection of dishes, decent portion size, lovely crispy naan bread. Well worth the visit if you can get to it.

    Any more info on This?

    https://www.con-telegraph.ie/2021/05/15/plans-revealed-for-landmark-mayo-hotel-project-2/

Plans have been revealed for a hotel and conference facilities on a 'gateway' site off the N5 in Mayo.

A Galway-based company, trading as Primbrook Investments Limited, has unveiled its proposals for a landmark site opposite the busy Mulroy's roundabout at Moneenbradagh in Castlebar.

Not sure from the article but it doesn't appear planning has been submitted yet?

Seems like they need a rezoning of the land First. Few hurdles to jump there.

not much room for a hotel and conference centre there.

perhaps it's the area beside the toyshop. An empty plot there.

That roundabout will be quieter when the new road opens up.

The town badly needs a good hotel, so hopefully this comes to fruition.

That hotel will be a long way off as they're only looking to get the land rezoned. We're at pre-draft development plan stage so first the draft development plan will come out and available for the public to make comments on. Then the final development control plan will be issued which is probably a year off, maybe more depending on the number of comments. Then the hotel will apply for planning permission, fire and DAC. That won't be quick either and will require lots of additional information requests. Then it will go out to Tender to builders. Then it will start construction but a large hotel with conference facilities and including fitout of all rooms will take probably two years to build. It's at a very early stage so could be five years before it opens.

To be fair they could be just testing the water. Getting land rezoned from an industrial park to commercial / mixed use presents more opportunities for the site and is probably the cheapest part of the development. It's a good site beside the roundabout and toy shop which could be a landmark building coming into the town allowing it to be several stories in height rather than the usual 3-4 elsewhere. It could end up as a tall hotel, office building, apartments with shops or something else at ground floor. Not dissimilar to the tall building at Tesco Roundabout above argos. That must be 6-7 stories with retail at ground and office above surrounded by apartments. I don't think it's a nice building but the principle of height and mixed use beside a roundabout applies.
