What was lucky? It's hardly like mendes shot for a double leg and accidentally head butted his knee. Aldo tried to knee him in the face and succeeded.

Say what you like. It was lucky. Yes he went for it but he was lucky in how Chad positioned himself as he was trying to back away.
A few inches further back or forward and he may not have connected as well.

Threw knee, landed knee. Stop with the lucky nonsense. The part in bold you can apply to absolutely everything.

Conor threw many a dig and one or 2 knees last night and missed......unlucky he was.........had he connected he would have been the opposite of unlucky....

No such thing as a lucky punch or knee or whatever.
If you throw a punch and it drops the guy then it was a successful punch as it did exactly what was intended.

Jesus you think an Irish man winning a world title would make you the main headline in the sports news on RTE. but no, they manage to squeeze in Conor's win behind the Munster and Leinster football final, some transfer in the English Premiership, and tennis

Getting so pissed off with a few of my yank mates on FB (yeah, real mates who i've met, not just randoms)

All i've heard from 2 of them is

    1. Illegal Elbows
    2. Early Stoppage
    3. Wait till he faces Aldo or Edgar, he'll get destroyed then
    4. Mendes on a full camp would destroy him

I've told them all i've heard from them over the past 18months or so is that Holloway was gonna find him out, Poirier was gonna destroy him, Brandao would knock him out, Look what he did to the 3 of them, now he's done the same to Chad
It doesn't matter when in a round the ref stops it, if a fighter is turtled up not defending himself then he's fair game to be stopped
Told them that Mendes is a top tier fighter in a top team and wasn't forced to accept on 2wks, but he said at some point he always stays in shape so wasn't a big issue, and yeah, he took the fight on 2wks notice but he must have been aware Aldo could pull out and was keeping fit.
And as for him destroying him if he had a full camp, this wasn't the 4/5th rounds he looked like he gassed, it was the 2nd, those kicks were causing unreal damage

    You hear it all the time in every sport from the players/fighters, from the managers and from the commentators;
"He was unlucky not to have finished him in the 1st"
"He was unlucky not to score"
    Etc..........

If you throw a knee in the general direction if your opponent and it connects in such a way as to finish the fight then you are lucky.......you're lucky the knee didn't glance off his cheek.....you're lucky you didn't miss and you land badly and hurt yourself......You're lucky he didn't slip it and uppercut you to ko you for the finish.

I'm not saying there is no skill or technique involved, of course there is but there is also luck. He had the skill and technique to throw the knee and was lucky it connected.

Enough of the butt hurt......it's just my opinion.
I had other MMA 'gurus' on here last telling me I knew nothing when I said how last nights fight would end and I was right!

Maybe they could have bought tickets then if they are experts. Chad wouldn't have to mention that he wishes he had conors kind of following.

Yeah man its fair annoying reading American forums like sherdog completely putting him down, US and Brazilian fighters puting him down and bandwagoners on facebook saying it was a fix.

I wish these people would line up to take just one bodyshot off Conor and see how quickly they 'give up'.

Keep talking big talk Mc Gregor as you are one of the few fighters whose " mouth is writing cheques his body CAN cash"
An entertaining ,hard working and skilled fighter who has brought new life to the sport and is proud to be Irish
Well done to Colin and best of luck to him in the next fight .

Conor touched on the kicks to the body, said they look nothing to the naked eye. Only he and Chad knew how they felt.

Credit to Holloway seeing it to a judge's decision.

    Chad don't tire easily

Has Ken Shamrock been back in here?

He said he would when conor looses.

Just watched the fight twice again. I don't think Conor knew it was over. I think he thought the ref was calling stop for the bell. Take a look.

Why is this not getting more media coverage? It's 13 on the rte sport website.

Compare that to Katie Taylor in the olympics for example.

For the best imo. Nothing worse than people talking about something they know nothing about.

    Great card.

Pendred is shocking. If he could throw a jab he would have walked that fight. Brutal stuff. I wonder what he works on between his fights, doesn't seem to have improved his stand up since his CW fights

Think that makes team alpha male 1-8 in title fights.

Mendes came across really well through out the whole thing. Faber comes across as a dick.

Katie Taylor is ridiculously overhyped it annoys me so much. Compare the level of competition to reach the top of her sport to McGregor and there is no comparison. Bet nobody can name any of our other medal winners at Baku who acheived the exact same as Taylor, but nobody seemed to care.

Anyway, sorry for being off topic, just wanted to throw that in hope you dont mind :)

With regards to the doubters, mendes himself said in the post press con that the better man won, also accepting herbs decision and stating he's a great ref a knows what he's at. if i recall correctly he also acknowledged the damage those ( really well placed and im full sure that was their intention) kicks to the body done. anybody who thinks a kick like that wont have a great impact or it will take time to have effect needs to stop and think for a moment where all your vital organs are placed. its common sense if you want a ko or a confused opponent go for the head, if you want to slow them down go for the midrift, if you want to decrease mobility go for legs.

on another note, conor said in press conference that he had placed a bet with 'collegues' on a second round win. call it tinfoil hat talk but i think its no coincidence that as soon as he released from that clinch on the ground he instantly looked to be going forward harder than before, i reckon he could have ended it in the first if he wanted to ;-)

the others at 145 will be waiting with bated breath for him to move up a class.
