Give it time it is only Ireland's 3rd test match and have given England an almighty scare

    Precisely

18.3 overs the shortest ever test innings

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,017 ✭✭✭SharpshooterTom

    These are unplayable conditions.

No side in the world would cope with this.

    Ireland have been unlucky.

Murtagh and Adair must feel like punching the batsmen heads in. All that work and the batters through it away

    We're playing against England.

We were 40/1 before it started.

I don’t give a toss what the bookies said beforehand.

We had England on the ropes and let them off the hook.

First off by throwing wickets away in our first innings.

Then letting their night watchman score 90.

And now this. They are bowling well yes but if any of the players come out saying they are proud of their performance over the whole match then I will not believe them(with the possible exception of Murtagh)

Sad to see such a finish to what was an uplifting couple of days.

    Ireland 3rd test match
    England 1011th test match

So what are you saying - that Ireland shouldn't bother showing up?

He's saying that Ireland just started to turn up.

He's saying that Ireland just started to turn up.

I just don't get that attitude in any sport personally. There is realism, yes, but there has to be a belief and attitude that you are there to compete.

Despite the gulf in class, 26-6 is still embarrassing.

Past the lowest ever score with a six

To be fair, ideally we would have had test cricket 5 or 10 years ago. Ireland have gone way down in quality in the last 3 or 4 years.

Sums it up. Six followed by a wicket.

Bookies get those values from data providers.. Ireland were complete and utter outsiders. You're over-reacting by so much it's hilarious.

Jesus. Dont know what strategy youd try employ now. Salvage a 100 and respectable loss would be a feat

    What are you on about?
It's their third Test match. You can use the typical language about complete/attitude/compete as much as you like; there's also a talent deficient as well as experience between the two sides. Ireland are just getting started. They'll be more disappointed than anyone.

Getting to lunch would be an achievement at this stage.

Ireland is still a developing nation in Test terms so all experiences are good. No matter how hard it is to take like today.

They have to keep continuing and getting that experience.

Shocking collapse. All the talk about the target and this performance. England showing who’s the boss

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,800 ✭✭✭county

I was afraid this would happen to Ireland but judging from the comments any team would struggle to bat in those conditions.
It's early days in test cricket for Ireland so they shouldn't be judged to harshly, there are definitely positives to be taken out of the game and hopefully improve on the negatives.
    36/7 now

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

    That wicket there was pathetic

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,017 ✭✭✭SharpshooterTom

Peak Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid would have struggled in these conditions, especially if Anderson was playing.

Not a hope for a side like Ireland. People shouldn't be too harsh on Ireland, the Aussies were bowled for similar in 2015 with Broad getting 8-15.

    Poor guys must be devastated.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,017 ✭✭✭SharpshooterTom

    Poor guys must be devastated.

If they had the conditions of yesterday, Ireland would've chased this.

England's blushes have been spared by the overcast conditions, even England fans are acknowledging they've gotten lucky today.

I realise that Ireland were massive outsiders.

That is nothing to do with my point.

I am simply saying that we got ourselves in a great position in the first session of the first day an have let it slip since.

Its not like the players have never faced these conditions or bowlers before.

But sure we gave it a good go so thats all that matters.
