wtf @ Guangzhou Evergrande signing Paulinho for £9.8m?

Do these clubs now have money? Is this going to become something we see more of? What is the standard of the league like?

They have money for years already.
Guangzhou bought Alan from RB Salzburg in the winterbreak too for over 10 million.

Standard is still poor although GE did win the AFC champions league 2 years ago.

Great signing for Arsenal. Cech is a superb keeper with tons of PL and European experience. Bet Ospina is chuffed.

Guangzhou have always had money. Scolari is their current manager and before him they had Cannavaro and Lippi. They have Alan and Ricardo Goulart at the club atm. Restriction on foreign players though so won't be a huge influx to China anytime soon.

Alibaba became an investor in Guangzhou last year too. Even more
money now than before I'd say.

BREAKING: Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande confirm signing of Paulinho from Tottenham for £9.8m

Transfer of the summer so far, fantastic bit of business by Spurs. The man is scrap. How we got £10m for him is incredible.

Well apart from that one act when he scored from the bench against Newcastle, he also scored against them in the return fixture. He also scored in a cup QF, SF and final. In terms of our 'Great Escape', he also scored the winning goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the 2nd goal against Cardiff to put the game to bed and the 2nd goal against West Brom to confirm safety. He also had a couple of assists in this period too. He was playing as a wide forward who was required to play quite deep and not in his favoured role as the main striker.

Borini made a poor career choice last season in staying put when Rodgers couldn't have done any more to make it clear that he wasn't wanted anymore, but then again I can't really blame him for backing himself to break into the team and give it one last shot with Liverpool considering they had Champions League football.

While not a top player, he's better than pretty ordinary IMO. Overall, I think he's a very good player for someone at that mid-table Premier League level. Liverpool paid £10.5m for him and he has 2 years left on his deal, so they're not going to let him go for pennies despite him being surplus to requirements. I think if someone signed him for £5m-£8m and he was willing to play as a wide forward in the right system, they'd have made a very good signing.

Fair enough. I'll keep an eye on him this season. You've turned my head on him a bit

He'll go somewhere and end up flopping now! Typical. :pac:

No idea to be honest mate. It certainly has gone quiet so I'm hoping no news is good news. Last I had heard/read was that it may be going to a FIFA tribunal. It's a complete mess.

I kinda feel bad for him. Hes not the worst player but surely 2 clubs desperately refusing to take him back will surely shatter all his confidence!

Gervinho's move to Al- Jazira fell through due to his demands including having a private helicopter at his disposal at all times, accommodation for his entire family, a private beach and an unlimited number of plane tickets to the Ivory Coast.
    :D

Probably didn't want to move and this was a great way to collapse the transfer. He's twenty eight, bit young to be hitting the Middle East.

Yeah I'd say the club accepted the bid and he just decided to take the piss with personal terms because he didn't want to leave.

He played almost every minute of the games he was available for but missed a fair bit of the season between injuries and the ACN.

Numerous reliable German sources reported Douglas Costa to Bayern is done for 30 million euro. Will be interesting to see how he gets on.

Super Lig is where its at (if you are past it but still famous)

Ronaldinho to join Samuel Eto’o in Turkey at Antalyaspor

Its not even a proper Champions League club, they were promoted back to the top flight last season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,950 ✭✭✭Pinturicchio

That's going to end in tears at Antalyaspor.

According to ESPN, Juve have offered €16m for Gerson, the 18 year old Fluminese attacking midfielder.

If only Leverkusen didn't snatch every piece of talent HSV had. :pac:

Not only have they been using us as a farm the past 2 years, but they are signing our targets this window too.

Admir Mehmedi - Agreed contract with HSV and gave his word to club he would be joining us. Leverkusen show up when we are negotiating a fee and he ends up there.

Michael Gregoritsch - Agreed contract with HSV. Agent says "Michael wants to play for HSV. We hope the clubs come to an agreement on a fee soon".
Leverkusen come in and sign him today.

I honestly believe Völler has some sort of beef with HSV. That's 5 players in 2 years, and they lowballed us on Jonathan Tah last week as well.
    6 players in 2 years can't be a coincidence.

Really disappointed about Gregoritsch. Watched a lot of Bochum games last season and he was very good. Raw, but good. They are loaning him back for a season which is probably why Leverkusen got him in the end.

HSV needs to get themselves out of the ****ter one way or the other, or that keeps happening.
Player can join a team that had to play relegation play offs 2x in a row or a team that plays CL.
Unless a player thinks he will not get into the first team, he is always going to the CL team i reckon.

Pity as a do have something of a soft spot for them since the best coach ever also gave HSV a European cup I.

No doubt that Leverkusen is a much more attractive spot currently. I'm just p*ssed off that it seems to be them, and them only that takes our best players. I was fine with Son leaving to them and I'm pretty sure I said that in the BL thread. But the two deals done after for Öztunali (the grandson of HSVs greatest ever player Uwe Seeler) on a free and Calhanoglu annoyed me. Agreeing a deal with Tah, then making a pathetic offer to the club last week and robbing Mehmedi and Gregoritsch at the 11th hour only adds to my frustration.

Anyways. Today finally managed to sign our first player of the summer - Gotoku Sakai from Stuttgart for €700k.

    Edit:
It appears the Gregoritsch to Leverkusen story from yesterday was BS according to the Bochum SD. They didn't even discuss anything with Leverkusen.
Someone at express.de is a huge troll and made up the entire thing. I was convinced because of the lines about loaning him out. Seemed legit.

Now talk of Robinho also going to Guangzhou Evergrande (12 million a year...), allthough GE denying it.
He will not sign a nw contract with Santos in any case

Will be fun if all their foreigners are fit at 1 point and can only use 3 of them.
Injuries have made it they played some matches with 11 Chinese players recently.
