According to the tracker my bib number doesn't exist but I'm able to find myself when I enter my name into. Is this the same for everyone?

Yeah same. Panicked and checked a few other numbers on the list then to see if it was just me :)

Best of luck, folks. When it gets tough just remember that you have put in the work, dig in and keep putting one foot in front of the other. Have a good one and most importantly ENJOY!!!

Yeah, I see that as well. Panic over!

Just to reiterate what other have said, a massive thanks for Dubgal and the team. Your knowledge, dedication and enthusiasm has been fantastic. When I signed up back in June, I genuinely didn't think I'd make it to start line but here I am and I know the wisdom and advise from the mentors here played a huge part in that. So again thanks! Hoping to make it to McGrattens and see some people from here there.

Best of luck everyone, Lets do this

The very best of luck to you all tomorrow, you've had tons of super advice so you don't need any more words of wisdom, enjoy the day.

Chickey & I will be at mile 20.5 (at the end of Miltown Road/start of Clonskeagh Road) with this lot of goodies all bagged up, however! I will expect to see you flying by with a wave & a smile & no need at all for sustenance :) I'll be there until the 5 hour pacers pass.
*moves DG support posting #22 to #20.5* that's great FD, legend!

Ok so the friend I was meant to be running with now wants to go to the Gin Palace of all places, but he's also decided he wants to do 4:10:00; realistically I don't see us finishing together so hopefully I can get to McGrattans.

On a more serious note, my sleep has been awful all week so if anyone can recommend any tips for tonight. If tried all the usual; all electronic stuff off, no stimulation for a few hours before, no coffee after four. Thanks in advance.
A bath could work but not too hot and not too long. It's perfectly normal to have an interrupted noght's sleep before a big race. It won't affect your performance tomorrow. Rest up, stay off your feet and relax. Good luck!

Good luck tomorrow to all. Looking forward to reading all the reports. Hopefully I'll be one of yous next year.
Thanks BK, no reason why you can't! :)

Do I have to pin the number on my vest or is it ok on my belt?

Hmm, I can't remember which race, probably not DCM, but I know at least one race specifically tells competitors not to use tri-belts for their numbers, it has to be pinned to the vest.

A good 10 minute interview on 2fm this morn if anybodys lookin for a bit more of novice pre marathon chit chat. Twas Dave Fanning interviewing a UCD sports psychologist James Mattews. I liked the bit where he said to change nervousness into positive excitement....

Starts at 1 hr 50 mins into the broadcast.

Just want to wish you all the best of luck tomorrow. This really is a super thread and it seems you all have had a much more structured training than the vast majority of other runners lining up tomorrow.

One piece of advice I'll give is to race as hard as you can but not any harder than that :)
If at any point in the first half the pace seems a bit hot for you ease off so that you have something in the tank for when the going gets really tough. Anyone who has played team sports will have heard the line "play the game not the occasion" this is also very apt for the marathon.

    H'on the novices ! ;)

The very best of luck tomorrow everybody, hope we all have our heads up and big stupid smiles crossing the line. Thanks to everyone for all the guidance and especially dg for making everyone realise what they're capable of.
See you in McGrattens, I don't know many of your faces but you could spot my orange Nikes from space!

Most of what needs to have been has been said so let me wish you all the best of luck tomorrow and leave you with one thought.

Run the first half at a pace that allows you to run the second half quicker.

As you're running through the Phoenix park ask yourself if you're going at a pace that will allow you to run the second half quicker or if you're getting caught up in the euphoria of it all. If you're going too quickly the sooner you back off the less damage will be done. If you pace this correctly you can enjoy the final few miles as you pass hundreds of other runners.

    Good luck and enjoy

Just saying thanks to everyone before I put a film on then turn in for the night.

It's been such a pleasure and privilege to be part of this thread with the other novices. Guys, you'll rock it tomorrow. I feel honoured to be sharing the course with you and have really enjoyed the journey along the way.

Dubgal, what can I say that I haven't already said? You. Are. Amazing. Your time and attentiveness to each and every one of us blows me away. And in the midst of your own training and racing? What you've done here is legendary. Thank you!!

Mentors, you all gave such great advice and tips. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!

All, thanks for the encouragement and support of us novices. We need it and will definitely use it out there on the course!

Good night, my friends. I hope you can sleep tonight or if not, at least relax and stay calm.

I look forward to celebrating our achievement together in McGrattans!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,413 ✭✭✭Toulouse

Well I'm all packed. You were right Firedance, plenty of room for everything!

Good night mentors and fellow novices. It's been my absolute privilege to have shared this journey with you all.

I will never forget this time in my life. I've learned an awful lot about myself and it's helped me make some big decisions that I had been running from (hah!).

I'm a better person for having done this and I'm really glad I did.

    Go n-éirí an bóthar libh.

I've been lurking on this thread all summer, having decided earlier this year that I wasn't quite ready for a marathon yet, but that I might aim for DCM 2016. Your journey to the start line of DCM 2015 has given me hope that I will get there next year.

I hope everything goes well for you and all the novices tomorrow and I look forward to reading all the race reports.

I'm gonna try and avoid the Internet for the rest of the evening to wind down (we'll see how that goes). I'm sure there'll be plenty of time for some nervous posting and reading in the morning :)
