Yeah, call tech support and ask them to increase your profile up to the 15Mb one (its on 12 now). You can ask them to a linetest while you're at it just to make sure its not knackered.

Really appreciate this. Thanks again. I'll let you know how it goes.

Currently getting 6MB on speedtest.net rang SKY about 3 months ago looking for speed increase they said it was not possible, when testing my number using your link it says i can get 14.65MB.

I was pretty sure my exchange was only ADSL can this app tell if an exchange is ADSL or ADSL2+ ????

Fiber due to go live this month which won't help me sadly.....

LINE STATS
Connection Speed - 7168 kbps / 384 kbps
Line Attenuation - 26.0 dB / 15.5 dB
Noise Margin - 13.3 dB / 19.19 dB

App tells me 2.93Mbps

Speedtest says
4360376887.png

My router stats
DSL Modulation Type:ADSL_G.dmt
Annex Type:Annex A/L
Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps) 256 2048
Max Rate (Kbps) 1076 3360
SNR Margin (dB) 14 15.5
Line Attenuation (dB) 31.5 58.5

Should I be calling Vodafone or am I getting as good as can be expected?

So I was getting constant 67 down and 19.5 up for ages but now dropped off to 55 down and 18.8 up.
These are according to SamKnows unit attached to my line.
According to your speedcheck details I see

{"speed": 85.86, "sync": {"down": 90.0, "up": 20.0}}

Here is the details from the router.
Line Status

Line standard VDSL2
Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 71679
Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 20478
Downstream SNR (dB) 22.4
Upstream SNR (dB) 11.8
Downstream line attenuation (dB) 8.9
Upstream line attenuation (dB) 3.1
Downstream output power (dBmV) 12.6
Upstream output power (dBmV) -13
Downstream CRC 154
Upstream CRC 58
Downstream FEC 30
Upstream FEC 3

Is it worth calling to see why I have dropped off recently?

If your modem is giving an accurate dSNR then you should be on 100_20.

Are you on wifi? It could just be 2.4Ghz noise limiting you.

Your program says I should be getting 66.78Mbps
I'm getting between 56.6Mbps and 57.1Mps

I'm 500 meters away from the nearest box, give or take 2 meters, if it makes a difference.

shame i cant use it as i dont have a phone number, just a account no. am with vodafone simply broadband

would of been good to see what my lines really locked at, as last time i tried get the profile changed after 4 or 5 calls it came out the eircom had my cab locked to 50 (extended vdsl cab with no vectoring)

i get 47down 13up and ping of 8ms

I'm getting 14.8 down, and i should be getting 17.

14.8 from a package sold as 24mb? Am i being robbed here?

Your line no longer goes to the exchange, they have no way of testing now they've removed the physical link to the exchange. If you know the number that was on it before there could be a prequal for that.

How can you tell from the router stats what profile I should be on?

Where does Sam Knows measure speed from, could be a server anywhere? I wouldn't go by that. The further away you test the slower your speeds will be. Run a wired speed test to a local speedtest server and compare

The attenuation and noise margin indicate the quality of your line and what it's capable of

The SNR is the "headroom" you have above the current sync rate. 29dB is a huge amount above the target of 10(9)dB. That means your line isnt stressed out and could go faster without struggling.

9dB dAtten, you say 500m from the cabinet?

I asked before but never followed it up with them. Latency is so low that the test notes are most likely WITHIN ISP networks here (like a netflix cache). Results have always been reliable though. Bionic can try pulling an iso off HEANET to confirm real speeds.

Your exchange definitely supports it, I had the same issue with Vodafone, i think they have to pay Eircom to physically switch you to an ADSL2+ DSLAM and they just don't want to do it.

As you are getting your full sync upload speed, it looks like it is just congestion, nothing you can really do but complain about it to Eircom.

ED E is correct with regards to the speedtest, as for the app showing you 14.65mbps and you being synced at 12mbps, you should contact Vodafone, your line attenuation is plenty good for 15mbps.

Streaming capabilities: Youtube 2160p, Netflix Ultra HD, Twitch Source.

I nearly died with laughter, if that's what I should be able to do on my 19mbit, then I'm having an issue, despite every speed test and my connection showing I'm getting the 19mbit.

Just because your connection is capable of streaming 4k, doesn't mean your cpu/gpu are capable of playing it back without stuttering, 4k video requires a beefy PC.

besides, I didn't really put much effort into that anyway, just a general guideline.
def stream_quality(speed):
if speed >= 16.0:

elif speed >= 5.0:
return 'Youtube 1080p, Netflix Super HD, Twitch Source.'
elif speed >= 3.0:
return 'Youtube 720p, Netflix HD, Twitch High.'
elif speed >= 1.0:
return 'Youtube 480p, Netflix SD, Twitch Medium.'

That being said, I will implement these more conservative values so we have no more casualties due to death by laughter.
def stream_quality(speed):
if speed >= 35.0:
return 'Youtube 2160p, Netflix Ultra HD, Twitch Source.'

return 'Youtube 1440p, Netflix Ultra HD, Twitch Source.'
elif speed >= 16.0:
return 'Youtube 1440p, Netflix Super HD, Twitch Source.'
elif speed >= 5.0:
return 'Youtube 1080p, Netflix Super HD, Twitch Source.'
elif speed >= 3.0:
return 'Youtube 720p, Netflix HD, Twitch High.'
elif speed >= 1.0:
return 'Youtube 480p, Netflix SD, Twitch Medium.'
else:

Hi guil, this thread is more about getting people to the correct sync speed for their line, as for your question, it's probably just congestion on the line, very common with older ASDL1 & ADSL2+ only exchanges.

Can you check your line with https://speedcheck.mikenny.com/ and see if you're on the correct sync, because you have a pretty good line attenuation which should be capable of more than 17mbps.

According to speedtest.net I am getting 6.08Mb/s down

According to speedcheck.mikenny.com it is 4.88Mb/s

So I am getting 25% more than this speed check says, over several tests from both.

Just thought to post in case it is of any interest ;)

Hi Liamario, do you have filters on all of your phone jacks? if yes, then you should probably contact your ISP, this reduction in speed can also happen if you are using Eircom's internet TV service.

haha, yep that can happen, for example, I'm synced at 7mbps, but Eircom says the max sync for my line is 6mbps, I'd love to know how they actually calculate it but I doubt we'll ever find out, also less noticeable with higher speeds but thanks for reporting anyway!

I can watch 480p youtube, twitch on low, I can game anything at 1080p without issue.
That's the part I was laughing at 480p to 2160, and low to source. Big difference in my own reality. I miss UPC.
I don't try 4k, I know that'd be an ask.

I really don't follow, are you saying you can only stream video at 480p and no better with a 19mbps connection? because if that's the case then something definitely is wrong, even a 5mbps connection can stream 1080p

Exactly what I'm saying. I mean, I can, but it buffers, a lot.
480p doesn't buffer at all, so I stay on that, 720p buffers toward the end of a 18 minute video.

I get my full speed downloading from my own server, so it's looking like Sky shaping traffic on certain services really, or just really really tired connections to the tube/twitch.

Hi dazdog, the important bit is the "Response from Eircom" that you should see below that message, please post that, thanks.

That's a shame, have there been any other reports about Sky shaping traffic like that? it's not right.

Your best bet is to contact Vodafone directly and have them do a line test, it'll be more accurate and I think it's the only way you can do it, shame.
https://www.vodafone.ie/utility/broadband/linecheck.shtml?perlico_areacode=###&perlico_number=#######

That's Vodafone's prequal api, try with that, just replace the first hashes with area code and second hashes with the rest of the number.

If you went standalone youll have changed to a CRN from a circuit number and that'll be what prequals now.

Connect a handset and dial 199000 to get your active "number".

When I try that I get a response:no landline.

Ah right so it doesn't work when you don't have a phone number, only option is calling Vodafone and having them perform a line test

It's a great speed for basically anything you could want to do on the internet, now go to http://speedtest.net/ what speed do you get there? they should be relatively close, and if not, there is something wrong

More than likely this means your exchange supports VDSL but you are on an old ADSL profile, can you log into your modem and post the DSL statistics, details to login are on the bottom of the modem.

In any case I recommend calling Eircom on Monday, and saying "Your website says I can get 50mbps, but I am only getting 4mbps", and they will sort it out for you.

76Mbps, but with an attainable of 42Mbps. Wirelessly I get 37, wired 42.

Hey Chuck_Norris can you post your line stats? also are you using Eircom eVision, and do you have filters on all of your phone jacks.

You should not need filters with efibre, the main pair will feed direct to the ntu and the phone sockets will all be filtered from there. If you need filters the engineer didn't do his job correctly

What if you're dealing with an older house?

Same thing, the ntu must be fed before the phone sockets. This is why each install needs a home visit, the engineer must remove all bridge taps before the ntu
