its that time of year again a couple of hot dry daysat the begining of may,so lets call the shearer...."r u clipping yet" ...."yes did a few show sheep and a handful of dry hoggets, they wern't really ready, your ewes are never ready till the end of may I'll let u know when i'm comming"..........two days later "when r u comming shearing " and this is repeated every couple of days........

I have no fn idea why people think that constantly hastling their contractors (shearing or machinery) will get them to come sooner, just book them and they will get to you as soon as they can.

so thats that job done for another year. three evenings and some 180 clipped. wool packed and loaded on the trailer, machines stripped and combs and cutters washed and ready to be dropped into a lad for sharpening...
delighted how the ewes stripped, some a bit tough but only an handful.
BBQ and a beer this evening if the weather holds.

Got 50 hoggets sheared we'd evening and was meant to get the other 60 on Saturday but decking weather has put a spanner in the works.

How come when your part time farming the rain has to come on a Saturday after s great dry week

Done the hoggets rearing lambs here myself yesterday evening, were tough going enough were a little bit damp only reason i done them were noticed a few with maggots when herding yesterday. Plenty of blowfly in some of the others so would have being bad if left any longer as its great maggoting weather here at the min

Saw one ewe hogget looking uncomfortable in the field this morning brought them all in found at least 3 more. The shearing can't come quick enough!

I had mine in the shed last night, before the rain came, grand and dry...
Rang shearer, he can't make it til Thursday now... :(

The forecast is for showers every day, between now and then. We'll see how we get on...

Got about a third of mine done yesterday and then the shearer packed it in cause of the rain. Don't know when he'll be back. Forecast is not great.

Just a question..do any of you use washing machine powder mixed with water to temporary get rid of maggots. Shearer gave me the tip last year?

Have used washing up liquid and where they are only starting and haven't started to bore in if a lamb was about to go.

Got all clipped and Fluke dosed, was as well they were in last night, was very misty here in early morning, enough to wet wool, blew up into good day by time Shearing team came.....job done till next year:)

Sheared yesterday a good few with maggots no cuts though. Sold wool today didn't pay for the cost of the shearing.
Wasn't able to do much of my Saturday jobs as a result of Fridays work!

Is everyone selling there wool or holding it till hopefully price improves surely can't get worse? Sheds are all empty so no big deal till store it for awhile.
