Since the stop is westbound only and they are not accepting passengers, would Shannon not have been a cheaper and less congested airport?

We haven't heard the outcome of their fifth freedom application, have we? Or is this DAA's way of saying ET didn't get it?

Anyway, I don't think ADD-SNN would be very popular. Plus there's the cost of operating at two different airports.

    7 777s and 3 787s plus 3 787s (return ADD-DUB-LAX route) per week. That's a lot of new metal for DUB!

ADD - DUB is probably adequately served by the LAX flight.
In any case flights that go ADD - DUB, but not DUB - ADD aren't much use, except for asylum seekers.

They got the fifth freedom rights alright, granted last year. This is in addition to the ADD-DUB-LAX route that they can pick up pax.

I saw an advert on a Dublin Bus last week promoting their Dublin to Los Angeles flights from something like €368!! I only saw the advert for a split second so maybe I got the price wrong or that its + taxes etc etc. Sounds like a great deal and on a dreamliner too!!

Oh, I know they got it for DUB-LAX, I meant for DUB-IAD and YYZ.

Why split your operation in two? The whole point was getting them into one airport to reduce costs. Dublin ISN'T congested at 0530 in the morning.

    It's 7x777(daily but these on occasion have been 787s) and 3+3 787's

Oops, yeah. Thinking there are 10 days in a week is probably a sign for me to go back to bed :pac:

Due to the altitude in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian are unable to take off with the full compliment of fuel/pax/cargo to make it to the states in one hop. This is why its westbound only. Return flights to ADD are one way. They currently stop in various European airports to refuel, so I guess it's a way of streamlining operations and probably reduce cost to have it all in one airport.

I believe these aircraft used to stop in Rome.

This is rather old news - it was mentioned here two weeks ago!!

I did look at the ADD-DUB-LAX thread to see if it was mentioned before I posted but obviously didn't spot it, and it seems like a few others didn't see it either.

It's better to claim asylum in Dublin

It's at the end of the ADD-DUB-LAX thread. From around the 13th.

Anyway, it's probably better to have a seperate thread for this. People were thinking thinking that these are return flights like ADD-DUB-LAX.

    Not half!

Back in the 70s / 80s several defecting Soviet citizens were disappointed to find themselves in Shannon rather than Gander. I believe one group even demanded that they be flown to Canada!

Correct or the title needs to be changed. only the ADD-DUB-LAX and return route could be considered transit. The rest is just a refuelling stop.

Correct you are. I must have been confused over the one that took an excursion to Switzerland...

The LAX flight and the desire to keep things in one place probably give DUB the advantage here, but SNN should be in a position to pick up some refuelling business where this occurs only oneway. Indeed the US immigration might make a stop a reasonable use of passenger time.

As posted in the other thread they are not using USCBP on any of their flights.

There must be plenty of other airlines that do similar refueling stops in Europe on the way to the USA. I wonder if we could see some more using Dublin as a stopover.

There aren't many. Singapore operate SIN-FRA-JFK daily with A380s so that won't be moving, for several reasons.

Given that the transit stops won't use a terminal stand, and are on the ground between 04:50 and 05:50 daily and 05:00 and 06:00 three days a week I'm not sure where he's coming from? They are hardly going to cause much congestion at those hours.

The LAX flight will be on the ground at T1 from 05:00 to 06:15 westbound and 18:30 to 19:45 eastbound three days a week - again hardly going to cause problems.

Sounds more like sour grapes to me.

Basically EI were asked to restart LAX but said no as they could get big business to buy lots of seats to SFO instead, no Ethiopian starts up LAX and EI know they have dropped the ball and are will most likely try and start the route next year and squeeze Ethiopian out. It's a cheap way of starting a fight. EI want to be the transit airline through Dublin and don't want to lose ground on their own turf

Which to me translates as sour grapes as I posted above!

I'm all in favour of EI developing their business, but to start moaning to the press and claiming that the Ethiopian flights will cause congestion when clearly they won't is pretty much up there with MOL's facetious claim that EI weren't using their hangar when they obviously were.

I'd expect better of Aer Lingus to be honest than to be putting false claims out, simply because they missed an opportunity.

Ethiopian's times are perfect for people wanting to maximise their time in LA. I'd take them in a heartbeat over a mid-afternoon arrival as seen with the EI SFO service...

If we assume FR24 is wrong then that's due at DUB at 4:50. But FR24 says it stops at DUB starting tomorrow so I'm not too sure.

The DAA website says it starts on May 10. If they mean the flight that lands on May 10, it's that flight there. If they mean the flight that leaves ADD on May 10, it's tomorrow's (May 11) flight.

I guess we'll find out in a little while.

The schedule change is effective May 10th, so that means the flights that depart on May 10th.

First Washington flight will arrive in Dublin on Monday May 11th at 04:50, and first Toronto flight arrives on Tuesday May 12th at 05:00.

They are not using the terminals and their facilities at all. They're purely refuelling stops.

1st benefit of their new tech stop was the delivery through Dublin of their latest 737-800 ET-AQO which arrived as ET9201 from IAD.

ADD-DUB-LAX is that only flight actually 'serving' Dublin. So it will be the only one to show up on the arrivals/depts info

This has all been posted several times already in the Dublin Airport New Runway/Infrastructure thread and the Ethiopian ADD-DUB-LAX thread.

To summarise it as people keep asking the same questions:

All days and dates below are the days and dates that the aircraft arrives/departs Dublin:

    Transit Stops:
ET500 Addis Ababa - Dublin - Washington arrive DUB 04:50, depart 05:50 daily effective Mon 11 May
    A/C - B777-200LR until 21 June; B777-300ER from 22 June

ET502 Addis Ababa - Dublin - Toronto arrive DUB 05:00; depart 06:00 TuThSa effective Tue 12 May
    A/C - B787 until June 30; B777-200LR from July 2

    Passenger Stops:
ET504 Addis Ababa-Dublin-Los Angeles arrive DUB 05:00; depart 06:15 MoThSa effective 20 June
    A/C B787

ET505 Los Angeles-Dublin-Addis Ababa arrive DUB 18:30; depart 19:45 TuFrSu effective 21 June
    A/C B787

I'd have thought the DAA would take any opportunity to showcase passenger aircraft arriving and departing the airport. Look busy and all that.

Most passengers won't care and, more importantly, it would add clutter to something that needs to be as concise as possible.

That information is provided primarily to aid people meeting arriving flights and anyone going on a flight.

Why would you potentially confuse people with information about flights that don't have any passenger interaction with the airport.
