Did the Czech Airlines route ever start? I remember it being announced with some absolutely crazy departure times in Cork, and then withdrawn two or three days before it was supposed to go live. Czech Airlines weren't in the best of shape even then and are effectively defunct now, having been taken over by Czech low cost airline Smartwings.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

I do hope they are in discussions with the likes of Smartwings, Iberia, TAP, LOT etc about flights to their respective hubs

Looks like the increases Aer Lingus had in the system today are not accurate:

Yeah it's happened to me a couple of times, and the disruption is large so I prefer to avoid it.

I noticed days where a second flight to Faro appeared have now gone back to one with the original disappeared.

Yep, it sucks when it happens, but in my experience, it isn’t that frequent either. I’ve only had one instance where an inbound KLM flight was cancelled in the 15 times I’ve flown with them, and that was due to a technical fault with the aircraft I was sitting in 😑 (I swear I didn’t touch anything!). The only weather related issue I had was ironically enough with one of the Aer Lingus flights from AMS, due to freezing fog in Cork.

All in all, it is annoying when it happens, I agree, but at least with KLM, they were quick with rebooking and I had both my compensation and all my hotel costs reimbursed within a week of claiming. One thing I recommend to anyone connecting through Amsterdam though is to try to have at least 90 minutes between your flights. The terminal is pretty well laid-out and you can easily transfer in under an hour, but the 6 AM Cork flight seems to have a knack for picking up a 20-30 minute ground delay in Cork when the winds favour the few east-west runways at AMS, something that drastically reduces the airport’s capacity.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

I've had a couple of tech failures on the KLM Embraer's too actually, and have only good things to say about the compensation and people involved. But it still leaves me with the nagging feeling that a 737 could be less vulnerable. I've had three ORK KLM issues already this year and am starting to favour IE with the Airbus. My last SNN KLM saga was a few weeks ago and it's still a touchy topic at home.

If KLM increase the Embraer frequency/quantity it'll definitely help, and it's definitely more of an ORK problem than a KLM problem in my eyes.

I've had two diversions to Shannon on the Embraers. They are a pain in ways - they have a lower crosswind tolerance than a 737 or an A320 so they are more likely to be diverted in a moderate westerly wind. That said, I like them because they are quick to board and get going.

What they really should do is get some 737s on the Cork service (morning departure and evening arrival perhaps) and an embraer on the midday back/forth.

Then do 2x Embraers to Shannon per day.

Cork to Amsterdam with Aer Lingus looks to be axed now

Just got a load of flight cancellation emails for Air Lingus to AMS from March onwards.

They said they're willing to maybe refund me or let me travel between two other airports nowhere near where I'm going to or from. Maybe.

They'll send us the alternative options by 12-December. No mention of which year.

The good news is KLM might do something some time. So that leaves me feeling confident.

Hopefully Aer Lingus will use the main terminal in Bordeaux and not that godawful Billi terminal that Ryanair used.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,532 ✭✭✭hans aus dtschl

Was that still going on? I was discussing with someone who was recently there with FR and was telling me they weren't sent through that awful Billi warehouse/shed. I remember doing that years ago and it was some experience.

    Hopefully it's gone forever.

Daughter got am email today that her Aer Lingus flight to Amsterdam is cancelled. Offered refund or can do a change in airport.

And then tonight she gets another email and they've changed the 6.16am flight from Cork to 6.16am in Dublin.

Are there talks of alternative airlines coming into service this route?

€250 return with KLM is saucy.

    Probably not.

If they upgauge to a 737 it may be slightly cheaper as mainline vs Cityhopper. Service doesn't change; indeed on short mainline flights the food can be worse!

No alternative airlines are likely on this route.

I'm not sure what prices you were getting for the Aer Lingus flights but 200-250 return is typically what I was paying.

I also got offered 06:15 from DUB to AMS, and will be going for the refund and KLM from ORK instead.

I'm just delighted if the Bilbao option happens. North Spain is a fab prospect.

There's no if about it. It's confirmed by the airline and airport as launching.

    Immensely disappointing

That’s a pity, a very useful route. KLM will be even more expensive now

Time to write to our new TDs (not that they can do anything)

With Aer Lingus Amsterdam gone, those KLM prices are good news for Air coach, as it will only send even more people to Dublin.

For the winter schedule next year, more than likely there'll be nothing from Aer Lingus to Europe, outside of 2 or 3 holiday resort flights. Heathrow will be their only city break or business flight to anywhere. It's grim.

They’ve taken all Cork flights off the booking system after S25 ends. I’ve a feeling they’re gonna reduce the base to 2 A/C for W25/26. I just can’t see them increasing frequencies on routes for the winter season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 211 ✭✭TheBetsy

While I agree with the possibility the base may be reduced to 2, it's too early to call yet. Yes flights from Cork are not on sale for any date past 25 October 2025, but actually, nor are they from Dublin. Eg when you try to select a flight to LHR from DUB after 25/10/2025, it is showing as "sold out".

Yikes, looks like EI will indeed have 2 A/C in Cork next winter. Schedules are back up and TFS is now on Mon/Fri with new timings and ACE is still 3x weekly on same days as usual

What a bizarre way to phrase the news

It's like most of us have been saying for a decade or more, Aer Lingus are only scaling down their Cork presence, as airport numbers consistently increase.

I don't know if they realise themselves that this will probably impact them long-term. They'll ultimately be reduced to running flights out of only Dublin, then whittle down to being a feeder for BA. Sad to see, for what was once a very strong airline.

IAG probably want to use current EI slots on something they see as being more valuable. If and when EI start reducing the Heathrow flight, then they really will have one foot out the door.

    The airport needs new airlines.
