I'd say some mental fatigue is likely. Commentator mentioned earlier about finishing late last night and being out quite early this morning, how that might disrupt her rhythm. Maybe not something she's used to. But she's been scrambling very well to her credit. Great drive on 7 there.

Pars 7th. Would take two more pars to finish right now, but a birdie would be fantastic. She hasn't played well says Laura Davies and hard to disagree. If she could get to even for the day, would be excellent.

Appreciate the updates folks. Many thanks!

Misses green on 8, tricky little downhill chip awaits.

Gotta say Laura Davies is excellent. I'd love her on every week for the PGA tour, she's better than any of those guys.

Come on Leona, great par save so just birdie the par five now and all's good.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Another good save from a very poor chip.

Wedge play one of her strengths so hopefully knocks one in close here. Not noticing too many birdies on 9th though, tricky enough pin to get at.

Not gonna show her finish, feck it.

She'll only be 3 or 4 off the lead more than likely heading into tomorrow. Might suit her better coming from behind. This should prove a real learning experience for her. Come on Leona!!

Lot of character today, whether she birdies last or not. Could have been very bad but fought like a tiger and limited the damage. Bit of grub, a proper sleep and tomorrow is a whole new day.

Parred the last, currently tied 11th three back.
Things change after round 2, moving day tomorrow and pressure off having made the cut. Hopefully she goes well tomorrow and has a realistic shot at winning it on Sunday.

Bit of a struggle today but putting saved her doing too much damage. Looked a bit fatigued on back nine but chip in and a few putts kept her going. Driving looks very good from what I saw. Hopefully she can give it a good shot on the weekend.

I thought she looked fatigued too, or, struggling in the heat, or something.

Leona teeing off for third round in a few minutes, playing with Austin Ernst. Five behind leader and scoring looks low enough today. Alas, no live pics until 11 so be lucky to get last 4 or 5 holes maybe.

Birdie-birdie start. Back up to T4. What we want to see!

Eagle at the 2nd! Just parred the horrendous 3rd so a great start.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Was eagle at 2nd and not 2 birdies as i assumed. Wonder did she chip in off fairway, 520 yards long, that'd be 2 pretty hefty strikes to have reached in 2! Dropped shot at 5 unfortunately so back to -5 and T10.

It would be good to see her press on a bit now. There are a lot of birdies being made around her.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Gets her birdie on the par 5 9th so decent front 9, -6 overall and T6. Back 9 has been better first 2 rounds so she can definitely push on.

Round taken a grim turn unfortunately. Bogeys 10, 11 and 12.

Looks like Tavatanakit is going to keep pulling away. Unfortunately will mean she’ll open up a bigger lead on Leona for rookie of the year. Still, loads to play for with big money on offer and Solheim Cup captain to impress.

Horrible back 9, played herself right out of it. That's golf. Can still have a good day tomorrow, relax and no pressure. This Tavatanakit looks a cool customer so far.

Does anybody think it was a mistake her deciding to turn Pro late into her twenties? It seems like alot of the ladies turn Pro in teens. She will now always be up against girls alot younger and alot more experienced in the pro game

She turned pro at 23 so i wouldn't say it was that late. She could have gone sooner but was determined to finish college and have that fall back. And got plenty of experience that way too. Look what happens to many who start out young, Michelle Wie for example. Or Lydia Ko who is back playing better now but suffered a couple of dreadful seasons after very young success. A golf career is a marathon not a sprint, so i think it will likely stand to her in the long run. Didn't Harrington do something similar in his career?

Experience only counts for a couple of years. When she's played all the majors twice she'll have all the experience she needs.
Annika Sorenstam was 22 when she turned pro.

At least a decent -2 to finish, -4 overall and currently T27. Won't even be top irish as Stephanie Meadow carded a fine 67 to finish -6 and currently T17.

Overall i think Leona will feel a bit frustrated but take plenty of positives from the week, will have given her a good glimpse into what it takes to get into contention for a major title.

Don't forget she's a rookie, all these experiences will help her.
