Don't think we have an open question at the moment, though Srameen now owes us one.

Here is another one to be going on with:

Alfred Nobel is well known as the inventor of dynamite, but his father was also a handy inventor - what everyday useful thing did Nobel senior invent?

    Sliced bread! :pac:

    Ken, is that you?

Do you mean Kenneth Sean Carson?

You have to take the prize. Barbara is of course Barbie.

I didn't want to say, in case I got accused of doxxing. :pac:

BRB (which, funnily enough, are also the consonants found in "Barbie")

My farther utilised this invention and used to tell us it was related to dynamite.

I'll let it run for a while for others to have a stab at.

"YVAN EHT NIOJ" - What does that refer to? Please add a bit of background, too. Thanks.

Yes, it was, and a couple of lines explaining how/why/where that sentence appeared. :)

EDIT: Woohoo!! This is my 50,005th post, which is a palindrome! \o/ I love palindromes... :o

An emordnilap. Congratulations on reaching 50,000. Long ago that figure was beyond anyone's comprehension other than as the Irish Sweepstakes' biggest prize. Then the
    organisers got found out.

My year too and I'm only half that.

It must be all the wild guesses at answers adding up. 😁

Ah Srameen that's mean. And not true. But funny!

Nope, it's not mean, it's absolutely true. All those dead sparrows are adding up. :D But like some teachers used to say, "At least she's trying" (the rest said "She should apply herself more", but we won't go there ). Besides, all those counting up and down threads also help. Those, and all those CVPL images, too. ;)

Edit: Sorry Srameen, missed your question and Rubes, didn't refresh the page before posting.

I hope my father had it right....was it a wood lathe of some sort?

Bumping this as it has been buried.

Personally, the name doesn't trigger anything.

Your spidey senses are kinda in the right area Srameen, but it wasn't a lathe, or indeed a tool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,887 ✭✭✭IrishZeus

    I owe one.

For what is Elvita Adams known?

I am not too sure of this but is this the woman who jumped of a skyscraper and lived?

Ok, it kinda doesn't look as though anyone knows the other Nobel invention - it was plywood. Apparently the Egyptians invented it first but the modern iteration was down to Nobel senior.

Another question coming when I think of it.

Correct. Jumped from the 86th floor of the Empire State and the wind blew her back onto the ledge of the 85th - survived with a broken hip/pelvis apparently. Your question Rube.
