2.0 diesel manual, beige, with nearly 300k miles - €13k!

Jaysus you'd think for 13 grand he'd stick a year's chape tax on her.

NCT to 03/22. 1992 car, so on the cheap tax in 12 months. At €2,500 I think it's good value if you can haggle a bit off. These drive as good as a modern car, they look fresh and are ultra reliable. It's very clean apart from a small dent on the wing from what I can see and has the same owner for over 20 years. It's not the most evocative of cars, but a nice way into classic motoring.

Funnily enough I posted that car in the bangernomics thread in 2019 when it was for sale by its original owner. The current owner has cleaned it up incredibly well. If it was a similar vintage Carina lads would be falling over themselves to buy it, and IMO thats a far nice looking car than a Carina.

Sent the link for the Dyane you posted Kev to the guys who restored my 2CV and they sent me a photo of their latest project

That was a very tempting buy at the time. It was always gonna scrub up well.

Maybe not a classic but I do have a softspot for a genuine survivor. 1990 VW Golf. No price which always annoys me.

You would have hours and years of trouble free classic motoring in that. A proper bargain.

Ive a Galant en route from Japan. Albeit the top end one....

    Its very good value.

Is the water meant to flow out the driver's door like that?

I think so, that's what the drains are for. Must have just rained or washed. That aside, crazy money.

I love these, especially from the rear. A UK reg one used to show up every so often around our way in summer when I was kid, it was like a spaceship showing back in the late 70's. No idea of the condition, but if it isn't a basket case, then it's a very fair price at €10,500.

Very clean Jetta diesel, they used to be everywhere. Has original Irish reg and the tow hitch. This one has never seen an NCT centre, so no idea how it stacks up in the flesh. Pricey at €4,950 for something with no NCT.

The fact that he doesn't even know what county it was registered in wouldn't fill me with confidence.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Checking logbook against the chassis number would keep me happy.

No pics of the interior and no NCT would be more my worry. Seller should at least take it there and get a fail sheet.

Apart from that, the outside seems to be near time warp condition. Shut lines are very good, windows aren't foggy, exhaust and wheels look refurbished, original dealer sticker, period correct plates. It has a lot going for it.

That Jetta looks in better nick than most of them did at 5 years old! I have dealt with its seller in the past, he comes across some very interesting cars.

Very true, they got very saggy in the arse at an early age, hauling calves to the Mart took its toll...

I tried to buy that from the same seller before Christmas, he was to get back to me to arrange a viewing. I heard nothing for a few days and then got a text saying it was sold, so the sale must have fallen through. It is unfortunate as I had space at the time however another car has taken its place. I know the 1800 series very well and have restored and worked on a few of them, mainly the coupe. They are rust buckets and very very expensive to repair properly. This one looks reasonable and as stated if not hiding bad repairs it is a reasonable price. If it needs bodywork or the injection system is malfunctioning it can get expensive quickly.

Its been resprayed, you can see that. Its missing its black go faster stripes along the bottom of the doors. Wheels are wrong, off a late model MK2 Golf/Jetta. Someone stuck a door mirror on the passenger door which was never an option on the 'C' spec diesel. I had one on mine. I had one of these from '82 to '85 and sold it to a guy in Carlow. He doubled the mileage and brought it to 300,000 miles. He sold it on to a guy in Galway ..... best car I ever had and confirmed to me that the only cars for high mileage are diesel.

BUT .... as you say, it has a lot going for it!

Not a bad price for one of these if it is sound. Hard to tell from the ad.

It isn't a great colour even though it does match his front door!
