How much of a nightmare is it to replace the wiring harness on a w124? When i had my ‘94 W124 the wiring harness issue was always in the back of my mind that I could be faced with a bill worth half the price of the car.

I would have thought that any Mercs with the biodegradable wiring harness would have been replaced by now anyway. If the harness was not replaced in the last 20 years, the chances are it wasn't made from soya beans in the first place. That's the impression I had anyway, from hours of googling last year when researching project W140.

Ooops, death trap according to the DVLA mot history.

Claims it's on classic tax and insurance. Won't be eligible for classic tax until August at the very earliest. Nice car, but the ad doesn't inspire much confidence.

I'm also not a fan of rear boot spoilers on them, it takes away from the classy lines. AMG models excepted of course.

5th September, Kev. And it makes you wonderwhat kind of previous MOT's were carried out when they make no mention of the quiet serious, but also quiet long term faults listed in the last MOT test.

    Run Forrest, Run.

If you were to go by previous MOT's:rolleyes:, then 8 major corrosion faults

    developed in a 2 year period:eek::)

if you asked the lad to put an NCT on it, would you expect them to pickup on the issues and then would it be worth a punt?

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,090 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

It would not pass an NCT with that level of corrosion issues,

unless the tester goes to work in the morning with a white stick:D

Or the boys get to work with the ole fillers!!

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 5,090 Mod ✭✭✭✭kadman

Anyone that covers up dangerous structural corosion with fillers,

should face the full rigours of the law. Although I have seen plenty of classic cars from

so called reputable well known restorers that are only fit for a banger derby.

There are still loads of cars out there with the original looms but mostly M111 engined cars. The larger engined cars suffered with engine heat to speed the process along. Both my E200 and E220 still have their original looms. They will need to be done soon but are showing no signs of falling to bits yet.

It's bizarre that the ad says several times that it's a 1974 when the plate, which is clearly visible, says '79.

Was wondering that myself, it was also only bought on 15/4/20 so a very quick turnaround.

Especially since Ford itself had't been introduced to the Mark IV until 1976

    Pardon ?

He means extra money being asked for more desirable versions of normal cars, 1600E, lotus Cortina etc.

That 626 coupe from last month is back. Looks very well now to be fair. VRT'd and now asking €3650.

Looks well, but never had an NCT. Asking price is strong for an untested car.

To be fair it was only VRT’d about a week ago

I've been trying to VRT a car and both Ballymun and Ballymount are closed due to Covid. I did my NCT in Ballymun and the staff there can't understand why the VRT staff are not back to work.

How can you tell when it was VRT'd? Any idea what the UK reg was? If it has a current and long MOT, there is less to worry about

Or maybe he polished a turd? :p

Hard to tell as that reg does not have any MOT online history, is it a NI reg?
