It's not impossible to be both respected and liked.

Be kind to your back you’ll miss it when it's fecked

Better to regret things you have done than things you haven't
(needless to say GBH, murder, etc should normally be excluded from this)

Oh and always wear suncreen ...

Otherwise you will end up burnt to a crisp after a day in the bog or an hour at midday on a Western Australian beach

    Work hard, then work harder.

Ignore the begrudgers. The issue is with them and not you.

You don't find wisdom at the bottom of a pint glass or at the butt of a weed joint.

Ignore this advice. And people that give this advise.

Beware of fast women and slow horses (courtesy of my 89 yr old Dad!).

I suppose the same applies to fast men ;)

When you really think about it, when you cut the crap, trim the fat and all that, deep down, it's all about the love really. The love you get, but mostly the love you give. That's the real bottom line once you have your back to the wall.

And pork chops obviously. Love and pork chops. oik.

Couldn't agree more (as I type this in work!:D)
Nobody ever lies on their deathbed and wishes they'd worked more overtime.
A life spent slaving for and fretting about a job is a life wasted.

Something I just came across, I'd always practiced it anyway, just never really saw it summarised so eloquently -

Become friends with people who aren't your age. Hang out with people whose first language isn't the same as yours. Get to know someone who doesn't come from your social class. This is how you see the world. This is how you grow.

Full-time college is for wasters, unless it's for a professional degree like nursing or pharmacy, otherwise don't bother.

Before you sit down to do a No.2.
Make sure there's toilet paper within reaching distance.
And not on the cistern behind you.
    Dam reach around

There are only two emotions in our world, really. Love and Fear.

Anger, resentment, worrying, guilt and shame - all examples of fear.

Happiness, fulfillment, joy, laughter and gratitude - all examples of love.

Love and fear cannot co-exist. It's impossible to love and feel fear at the same time.

So when you feel fear in any of it's guises, it's important to focus on love instead. Gratitude for the good things in your life is an easy one to pick to change how you feel quite quickly.

When you feel excited and happy, you get a 'jump' in your tummy. When you feel bad, the feeling sinks downwards. Tune yourself into this feeling as much as you can and notice what your body is trying to tell you. Aim for more jumps than downs.

We can only change how we feel and act. We can't control others. So if we make our minds a happy place to live, then we will live a happy life. When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

When things are really rough and it's necessary to feel pain (e.g., grief), don't push it away. Allow it to be there because it has a place. Comfort yourself in the knowing that the only constant is change itself and this too shall pass. Don't make any decisions when you're in a negative state of mind.

'Please' 'Thanks' 'Sorry' and 'No' are four very important words. It's amazing how far the first three will get you in a huge variety of situations if you can manage to sound like you mean them. As for 'No', there are actually remarkably few people you'll encounter who'll literally put a gun to your head. If you say no, keep saying no, and very importantly are willing to accept the consequences of saying no there's actually very little you have to do if you don't want to.
