Probably about 15 - 20 nationwide being filled at the moment but again this figure may increase if current Directors are successful in a no of chief executive of local authority competitions that are ongoing also currently. Dos vacancies will then either be filled by external candidates, senior engineers or senior executive officers.

Will there be an open director of Service competition then?

Advertised in Jan/Feb. 400 applied. Shortlisted 200 for preliminary interview and organised individual competitions on a county basis for those qualified. First of the vacancies filled over the past few weeks.

Interesting do you think they will interview by county or region for the SEO competition? I presume if you are will to work in a number of counties that your one interview score would count for a panel in each of the counties/regions.

My understanding is that interviews will be held centrally. Oh spoke to somebody who works with people going for internal competition. I wonder will internal and external comp interviews be held at the same time? My oh is like a child waiting for Christmas!!!

Well I've been told that they have filled positions with people from the confined competition already in some areas, as a position I was interested in is now filled.

Had the person going for the internal competition any more info than we have on it all?

No. It's third hand info at this stage. It does seem to be taking an age. Perhaps some people will have gotten other jobs or just disillusioned and all those posting here (or their ohs) will get the posts 😀

I like your positive thinking, it would be disappointing at this stage to not at least get an interview but sure we will know whether we are getting one soon enough

Original job spec outlined that interviews and panels would be set up on a regional basis with different interviews for the different regions

Vaguely remember seeing that now that you say it. That's really interesting, I would how it would work if you're in for more than one region. Would you do more than one interview or would first interview count for all regions?

Really, that's interesting. Thanks for the info.

We will either hear about it today or next week according to that message we received in early July.

No haven't heard. I'm keen to know too - been on leave for the past week and have checked my message board so many times instead of relaxing.

We will have to hear by Thursday though.

Why Thursday? I thought message said that shortlisting would take place in "late July" with interviews "during" August. Wouldn't surprise me not to hear this week!!

To be honest I just thought as it was the 30th of July that it would be late enough in July for them to announce it, also as it's the long weekend coming up and I didn't think they would send out a communication on the Friday. We're all only guessing though. I think the message said shortlisting would be complete by late July which means they should be able to notify people by the end of July.

Having been on leave for the past few weeks my brain is beginning to work again. Of course there are 31 days in July so we might hear tomorrow. Also as someone else here said, just because the shortlisting process will be completed in late July does not necessarily mean we will hear from them in late July. However given they've said interviews will take place in August and they asked us for leave details in August surely we will have to hear soon.

One would think so. As I'm not in the public service, it seems a bit alien to me to take 6 months to recruit. On a side note: does anyone know if there is a probationary period for these roles? We are looking at a mortgage and if oh gets it the mortgage provider has said probationary employment may not be factored in - caught between rock and a hard place. She may not even get shortlisted but we are thinking long term (we didn't anticipate application process would take this long)

I would imagine that there would be a probationary period of a year. That is the norm in the public sector anyway, I'm not sure whether the local government differs. If anyone still has the information booklet 6 months on then they might be able to let you know for sure. It's the longest recruitment process I've seen for any competition but I think the controversy with the union etc. held it up.

Results out. Not shortlisted. Can't believe it! I had an excellent form and am already operating at an equivalent level.

Any other external candidates get through?

I know it sounds like sour grapes but I put do much work into the form not to mention all the practice I did for the exam, which I did well in.

the whole thing was a major waste of time.
