Explains the joycon problem a little more. I'd gladly take 4-5 less hours on the joycons for a boosted signal.

Ya, I seen that earlier. I don't think the Joy-cons have the ability to change. They're so small and, I doubt there's firmware in them. I don't know, I'm trying to think would they have separate firmware?

    That's just it.
A thing that's unsupported on the Switch is big news.
Another reason Nintendo have finally lost it.
Then it turns out they are bang in line with common practise.
    Non news, as said already.

It's a shame they don't follow the current industry standard of putting a headphone jack into the pro controller.

Which is weird seeing as they put it in their Wii U gamepad before microsoft and Sony. I'll definitely miss having the headphone jack.

@sligeach no idea on being able to push firmware to the joycons. If Nintendo don't mention it in the coming days, I'm guessing a firmware update is possible and they'll fix it quitely. If it's a hardware issue firmware can't fix it, they better release a statement. And quickly.

Surely not something we should be able to say about a product that's coming out of the hardware house that's famous for its innovation, nor about a new brand that's focused on disrupting the status quo in console gaming?

(Except in so far as its common practice to ensure both halves of your controller work before you hand a bunch of them out to the press)

The fact that it's a reasonably common complaint among the very small amount of people who have the console so far is certainly a cause for concern. Hard to know if it's a patchable problem, unless it's possible to boost the signal through a firmware upgrade. Best case scenario, it's a pre-release quirk that won't be an issue when consoles are out in the (breath of the) wild. Worst case scenario, could be recall territory.

Fingers crossed it's not that big of a problem, although worryingly that Gamexplain video makes it look very much like a hardware issue. Fair enough they went through extreme lengths to show it but presumably they work fine in the grip and held like a normal controller? Hopefully 'desync' doesn't turn into Nintendo's RROD (or YLOD to be fair). Early days folks. :)

Crap. So when the unit is docked and you want to use headphones it will have to be via this mobile app it sounds like?

Probably not. You'll likely need a long 3.5mm extension cable running accross your living room.

For voice chat hopefully though. Pass the audio through from the switch to the phone and put the chat on top. Honestly what are the chances though?

And how does the phone connect, Bluetooth?

“Door certainly not closed” for Mass Effect Andromeda on Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch and Mass Effect Andromeda are releasing within a few weeks of each other, but will they ever work together?

Last year, when the internet was ablaze with rumours around the Nintendo Switch, there was a fresh industry leak almost every week. One of the most consistent, often coming from sources with a track record of getting it right, was that Mass Effect Andromeda would be releasing on the Nintendo Switch. And when you looked at the release dates – the NX (as it was known then) was listed as March 2017, and Mass Effect Andromeda was March 23, 2017 – the planets looked aligned.

However, in January this year, BioWare’s Michael Gamble burst the bubble, claiming there were no plans to bring the game to the Switch. And sure enough, there isn’t an EA game anywhere in sight now we know the launch line-up for the Nintendo Switch - for more on that check out the hands-on guide to the Switch at the bottom of this article. But there remains hope.

This week I got a chance to interview Mass Effect Andromeda producer Fabrice Condominas about the game, and I asked him what happened to the rumoured Switch version. This was his response:

When the Nintendo Switch rumours were swirling about last year, it was strongly rumoured that Mass Effect Andromeda would be a launch game, but then that got shut down quite heavily. So what happened there with Mass Effect and the Switch?

First, we were too deep in development to focus on a new console. Secondly, the door is open, we have nothing against the Switch even if we have nothing for the Switch. If the Switch is a significant success we will revisit that. So the door is certainly not closed, it just wasn’t the right timing for us.

Wow only 2 1/2 hours play, damn that's gonna cause problems doing temples. Has anyone tried a power bank on the switch yet probably gonna need a 20,000 mAH minimum

You can dial it back, in terms of brightness, and push that out to three hours no?
Also, I keep a USB C charger with me anyway for my Nexus 6p so, no drama.

Towards the end of this video they plug in a power bank and it works fine.

Maybe it was because they had no game to play but it was all a bit underwhelming for me, but I can see how this is going to be brilliant for someone planning on using it primarily as a handheld device. Man those joy-cons really are tiny looking, not a chance I'd get by without the pro controller.

I carry a C charger around for my OnePlus Two all the time, so this is no big deal for me either. I'm delighted my unique charger will suddenly be useful on something else!

Looks like Snipperclips is a launch title in japan, so here is hoping its going to be a launch title here, I assume it will be announced at the nindies showcase in a few days.

I'm not going to defend them but it's not like Sony or Microsoft ever put out defective products that were way more severely hampered at launch. I remember 1up talking about how all but 2 of their 10 360's were not working shortly after launch.

Think I'll cancel my amazon order and pop into Argos on Switchmas Day. I'm pissed they are not sending out Zelda with the console.

    Edit - just cancelled both

Best of luck Tipsy, hope you manage to nab one easily enough!

Launch line up isn't looking that bad at the minute for me if this is true.

Wonder how much the set will be with the code. I could be tempted to pick up an extra pair of joycons.

" (oowa oowa oowa oowa) Koizumi did some work on the dock..."

if there's no sku for the download-in-a-box joycon set now, it's unlikely to be available on Launch Day. Much as I'd like a reason to pick up a 2nd set of 'Cons I had my heart set on Snipperclips as my 2nd game.... I guess I could Switch <click!> to Shovel Knight TT?

Maybe I'll wait for the inevitable GOTY edition, Snipper Elite?

Bon Jovi? For shame. GnR for your '80s hair metal!

    "Welcome to the JoyCon,
    We've got fun and games,
    We got everything you want
    Mario, you know the names
We are the people that can find
    Whatever you may need
If you got the money, honey,
    We might give you VC"

:D Genius. I don't think I will ever hear that line the same way again.

    "You gotta hold on,
    But not a lot,
It doesn't make a difference if you charge it or not,
We've got three hours and that's a lot to roam.
    Give Zelda a shot!

    Woah, we're half way there
    Woah, livin' on a prayer
That left 'Con will sync i swear
    Woah, livin' on a prayer"

Take it to the bridge Sligeach!"
