This is just depressing to read.

2 months til launch and they wont give information in almost anything. Also to not support Netflix or any video streaming at launch is criminal.
We have nothing to announce at this time.

    lol

That Amazon deal worked for me, just had to get the total price up to over £50. I pre-ordered Mario Kart Deluxe and Accessory set for £54.98 with the discount.

i just ordered 1 , 2 switch and a joy con charging cradle for £42 (also used the 10 euro balance left on my one from all that was a gift for xmas so not counting that either :P ). content with that. was looking for bomberman r and or a good case but they dont have anything i want and are also sold out of joy con sets. figure i will eventually get a second set to go with the charging cradle but for now will just have the added charge time for my initial set.

    You're forgetting about Splatoon.

That's filling the summer gap. A system seller due to the first one not only being an excellent game but on a system that was considered dead managed to becone the most successful new ip in Japan since Wii Sports, that's pretty impressive. It kicked ass for a new IP and there's a lot of folk looking forward to being a squid now or a kid now.

It sold twice the amount Bloodborne, Killzone and Driveclub managed.
Four times Infamous:second son and The Last Of Us Remastered.
It beat total sales of Halo 5 on Xbox one.

Just comparing install bases that's insane.

I know it pushed me over the edge to buy so early. A proper Fire Emblem announced for 2018 and the knowledge that retro studios have been up to... Well SOMETHING for the longest time make me quite confident that there at least will be a far steadier stream of 1st party games.

Edit: that PS4 list is also waaay wrong. It has Deep Down listed as a launch title ha ha. I was really excited for that actually. Where the hell is it? *Investigates

Another thing that contributed to Splatoon's success was its price. It was very cheap. I paid €30 for it and that was day 1. The sequel isn't cheap. I see Smyths and Gamestop have it priced at €73 and €75 respectively. And we've to pay for online this time around.

Nevermind Netflix, why the hell are they stonewalling everything to do with the Virtual Console. Would really make you think that they're rushing this thing out and don't have the answers yet - not charging for their online service initially would point to that too.

No info on Virtual Console is exactly why I'm not preordering. Never had a Wii U so a big draw of the Switch for me is the ability to play all the great games that I missed out on.

What's the bet that they'll release an app for that on your phone at a later date? :pac:

do you really think thats the final price for it? you probably wont get it for 30 but its certainly not going to be in the 70s. amazon along with most uk sites have dropped the prices of the launch games to 45-49 pounds so expect the same for games that come after. €50-55 would be my guess at splatoon 2 and thats without some sites doing deals close to launch as they did for splatoon 1

virtual console is not at launch? i actually cant remember.

or do you mean a new 2D mario?

A new 2D Mario. I know the one on the Wii U didn't get amazing reviews but I thought it was great and would love to see a new one.

They haven't said it is or it isn't, they just haven't given much detail either way apart from saying NES and SNES games will be included in the online subscription.

im actually a tad surprised at that myself or even one that comes out in launch window but perhaps they are saving it for 2018 or 19 as filler til the next 3d one after Odyssey

That looks fun, but I wouldn't have anyone to play with so it'd be pretty useless for me.

Surely Mario Maker has overtaken the NSMB series at this point. Port over the Wii U version, laughing.

If people are ordering Zelda off of Amazon it might be wise to avoid the Super Saver Delivery, if you get Asendia as the carrier you might have a console but no game for quite sometime to play it on.

Stop don't get me going on them games could take 3 weeks to get ha.

Give you a idea ordered Titanfall 2 on black Friday got it around the 20th of last month nearly a month after I ordered it.

Have my switch on pre order from. Amazon paid for the express shipping I don't mind getting it a fee days later as I am paying about 275 for the switch

Did the same, but have Prime so sending it to the Parcel Motel, should get it the day after launch.

I have to say, there seems to be more currency online in angry commentary rather than a measured response, we saw it with the WiiU, No Man's Sky, The Last Guardian, Battleborn and now with the Switch.
People must get far more clicks when they regurgitate the negative, and then present it as "objective" rather than truly taking a more measured view.
And much of these opinions seem to still be only informed by a selection of youtube videos presented by Nintendo along with a handful of "leaks" by so called insiders.
I'd love if people could keep their powder dry until the console is actually demoed, or are they so anxious to be the first to be "triggered"?
Apologies for all the quotation marks!

Bloodbourne is amazing. It's the reason I bought a PS4. That and Street fighter 5.

It's less about the numbers of games, more about the install base.

    50 million PS4, 13 million Wii U.

The point I was making is that Splatoon is a far bigger game than some realise.

base.com are selling the pro controller for swicth at 68Eur delivered, im nearly tempted to order, but i wonder with prices dropping for games and some accessories will the price eventually fall before the launch day for the p controller.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 578 ✭✭✭R.F.

Obviously on Ps4 there is a far, far bigger selection to choose from. So unless its COD or FIFA you would see a far bigger spread

The WiiU had a very small library in comparison, so when there was a big release a large amount of the owners would jump at it.

For me, Nintendo will always now be a secondary console. Which is fine.

Is Switch backwards compatible in any way? Will you be able to download or play Wii, Wii U, or 3DS games?

The Nintendo Switch system is not backward compatible with games designed for other systems, and is not currently compatible with controllers designed for other systems. Support for certain controllers may be considered for a future update. We have nothing to announce regarding Virtual Console or other types of digital purchases at this time.

Would love if they were patching in wii u pro contollers.

    They don't have a crappy speaker. ;)

It would make more sense for wiimotes tho as they are the most similar controller to the joy cons and for switch being multiplayer console the wii motes could be a rough and ready extra controller for games.

Nintendo should follow Sega by only making software.

People were saying this around the time of the first Wii release, though. And they weren't correct. Someday they may be correct, but only the Wii U has been a misstep, in terms of marketing, and possibly application.

Sega went software developers in what, 2001/2002? Pretty sure they were on a massive run of poor financial results in the years leading up to that.
Why would Nintendo follow suit? Sure last year the had the massive success of Pokemon and last year for seven straight months, 3ds software sales were up on the previous year and basically the 3ds is still flying.
They're not like for like comparisons.

Didn't Nintendo buy Sega, and that's when they stopped making hardware anymore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

No, absolutely not. Sega stopped making hardware because they'd a lot of hardware that was considered failures, and terrible financial results over several years.
