Might be able to swing by GameStop before they close this evening to see about changing my online preorder to the red/blue one.

It's only 2 million. It taking so long to sell out isn't a good sign. Then again, UK and Ireland isn't a good market for Nintendo.

If the 2 million sold out fast Nintendo would be accused of under stocking, if it takes a while (let's be honest, only a few days) to sell out it's seen as not a good sign. Places like Amazon still had it up despite stating they had sold through their initial stock, up on sale doesn't always mean it's immediately available.

Yeah, selling out too fast is bad. Selling out too slow is bad. It's the Goldilocks principle. Basically you want the Switch to sell out "juuuust right" so the press can fall asleep in your bed and then you can eat them when you get home from your walk. This is all the "Wii U is dead" bull**** all over again, but this time the damned vultures don't have the good grace to let the body be born before they try to pick the bones clean. I have a mortgage and 3 kids - I can't finance another press-induced short life cycle!

Think my Amazon pre-order missed the boat and I can't physically get to the Gamestop I click-n-collected to to top up in the next few weeks, god help me I'm relying on a Smyths online pre-order with no money down. Pretty sure that's me playing BotW on Wii U for a few months :D

You can't blame the press for the Wii U being a disaster. That was 100% down to Nintendo, their muddled messaging and awful supply line when it came to releasing games.

I can and I will! But I'm not discussing it, I'm sure everyone's sick of going around the houses and it doesn't change anything. Other people's opinions are like USB cables when your phone is on 1% and you're desperate for a wee - no matter which way you twist or turn it, it's not going to fit and as you desperately you try to push something home that you know is right, you only increase the likelyhood that something important is going to snap or break off. And then you piss all over the kitchen floor again and miss that call from your bank.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people are pre-ordering them just to sell them on at an inflated price just like they did with the NES classic.

    Back to midnight launch business...

Apart from GameStop Henry St, where else might do it?

Would any of the Smyths stores, for example?

Edit: In Dublin, I mean. Sorry.

I don't know, I'd say supply being so limited it wouldn't be worth their while.

I remember they did a midnight launch for Xbox One and PS4 in the Smyths store near Jervis street.

Can't see that happening. If it had been a December release then it would have been a different story.

Are Henry Street doing a midnight launch?

Emailed gamestop about my online pre order not showing up on the system in the store I picked for collection and if Ill have to pay this E50 deposit people are talking about.

    Here's the reply I got

I just hope they haven't put me to the back of the line when they fixed the system and my place in line is from when i pre ordered.

Got a reply to a similar question from Gamestop clarifying the final price. No indication that they want the collect deposit upped to 50euro, even though all new orders require it.

Anything ordered from today onwards is not guaranteed for launch day. Item page has since been updated to reflect that (Grey version at least).

They said they won't know till mid-Feb.

Sorry if I gave that impression. I just want a back up for if plan A fails

I preordered, just in case I do decide to buy come March as it is already very tight for orders everywhere.

FYI, my GameStop online pre-order has updated to the following:
1 Nintendo: Switch Grey Console (Orders Placed After 18/01/2017 are not guaranteed for day 1 release)
Ordered mine on the 11th, so should be ok. I want the red/blue one, so tried to contact them on Facebook. No reply just yet, so may try email instead.

Same for me with an order just now. Would probably end up buying it sooner rather than later, before any price reduction would probably come up, so figured might as well jump in on day 1.

Quite excited now I've done it even with my worries over their online sub/service, the price for the accessories and the current release list, although it does seem that the release list will be padded out a good bit more yet for the first year, hopefully.

The only other console I ever got on launch was a Wii, and I've only gotten both a U and a 3DS over the past few months and loving both of those, so looks like Nintendo caught me right in the middle of a little bit of my own hype for their products. Can't wait to be trying BotW on it!

Has anyone here pre ordered from Smyths online and had their order arrive on/before release? I'm just curious as they have the BotW Special Edition for a tenner cheaper than GameStop (it's out of stock on GS anyway). If it's gonna arrive after the weekend I'm not interested.

Do they not offer in store pick up?

They do but I much prefer having stuff delivered to me. Also I'm not entirely sure where I'll be come March 3rd and may not be near the Smyth's that I chose to collect it in.

Amazon dropped the price of Breath of the Wild by a tenner so no it's down to £49.99. That leaves the special edition costing £40 more now with the only benefits being a daft sword statue and a CD, so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna cancel my special edition.

I just called into Smyth's and rejigged my order so it is specifically for the red/blue edition.
I was concerned that I'd be bumped to the back of the queue but he assured me it wouldn't be the case.
He informed me that the colour edition was less popular than the grey one and that, while business was brisk in the preordering for the Switch, in the Airside Swords branch it was quieter, for whatever reason.
I also preordered LoZ:BotW while I was there.
I considered the same for 1,2 Switch but I'm hoping for a pack-in of some sort....

Orders today will get day one. From tomorrow it's touch and go.

That's my pre order safe so. :D Still not sure I'll buy it though.

Ah fair enough. I just want to make sure with the online crowd it actually is going through for me with the €5 deposit.

I'm sure it will, especially if you got that email a page or so back. I initially went online cause I couldn't afford the 50 squid until pay day. Ended up get a few bob yesterday so I said screw it and got the pre order changed and put the 50 down to be sure.

I didn't, but in fairness I didn't email them either. Rang the head office number they close at 4 so hopefully someone will answer. If not I'll call up my local store and ask them to check their computer because the email said they weren't showing up in stores but should be now. I'm not bothered if it isn't showing up, because I'll drop the deposit on a new order today, since it's definitely going for day one launch as long as it's ordered before tomorrow.

Looks to be €64.99 on Smyths, and €69.99 on GameStop for the game alone. Might pre-order it on Gamestop too, just to have it, rather than having to trek to Smyths after picking the console up. The time it'd take is worth that €5 to me tbh.

I'd say you'll be grand either way. Worst comes to worst, stay up all night on the 2nd and reserve one straight away online in Argos.
