I was responding to the first response...which raised deflategate. I completely agree that it is very very tiresome to see it raised every time there is a wrong.

I'd rather if not every story was met with the "but Brady got punished for less". That was precisely my point. There are far better comparisons anyway, NFL stars who got caught for wrongs outside the game and got treated more or less favourably.

    Deflategate, deflategate, deflategate..... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Will you please get over it. Like you I saw it mentioned, but also noticed that Cam was mentioned as was the article posted. Just ignore it (like most others can) and you might get your wish.

Tbf the fact that the first question people keep pushing now every time an off field incident occurs, i.e. "who cares about the specifics, how does this compare to how Brady was treated?" has become more tiresome than Deflate-gate itself was. Cases can be discussed is isolation without comparison to others.

    EDIT: Wording

This. The league mishandled deflategate badly. Everyone accepts this. So why are we reverting to that as some barometer of justice for every bloody incident?

From what I’ve read Manning should be humiliated. I get it, you were young, stupid and had a crazy ego. But to follow it up with that behaviour is shocking. It won’t matter, he’ll be paid a fortune as an analyst and it’ll soon be forgotten.

Insofar as they made findings about the Pats, they were accepted by the Pats. So that wasn't handled badly. The mishandling was limited to findings against Brady.

Either way, it has no relevance whatsoever to this incident. In every sport, a team caught cheating can have the book thrown at it. An individual caught doing something wrong that is not related to the sport...well that's gonna cause a problem.

On the Manning thread itself you did exactly as I did here, you complained about others invoking deflategate.

    No I didn't.
I don't think it has to be referenced when complaining about something else, and I don't think people need to constantly whine when it is.
Let it go or post in the relevant thread.

While there's not much new information in what King reported - aside from more detail on how it impacted the woman's career - I didn't know there further details redacted from the court records.

King today said he should be able to release these details soon and that he's discovered what they are about. He says it's "deep and ugly". So either the redacted information is about the majority of Ryan Mallett's pass attempts (zing!) or this is going to get a whole lot murkier for Manning.

the whole thing about Manning has a familiar ring to it like Lance Armstrong. This unreal star of his era and a massive hero to millions, but behind it all was some shady crap going on and upon retirement is when people are going to come out of the woodwork to throw the dirt.

I'd hope it is no where as serious as Armstrong, or even remotely similar, but its just that feeling about it is the same.

People giving out about talking about deflategate, talking about deflategate...

The initial point was about how Manning receives blatant preferential treatment from the media in comparison to other players in the NFL. Nothing to do with how he's treated by the league which this has automatically escalated into.

I was going to write a post about how there are big differences with the Armstrong story (the drug situation, even if he's guilty, can't be as serious as it was with LM, and the destruction of the woman's reputation seems to emerge out of different circumstances) but the more I thought about it, the more eerily similar the stories look. And if there's a Walsh/Kimmage type of journalist willing to take the career risks of chasing him down about it, I can imagine this playing out in a really similar way.

Or Shaun King's version of "deep and ugly" is much different to everyone else's. Having read his original piece I'm not expecting anything actually too bad.

Part of the problem with King's piece is he's writing for a tabloid newspaper, and that style of reporting very much comes across in the article. So I guess until the complete story comes out it may be wise to reserve judgment, or at the very least keep an open mind.

It's beginning to look a little better for Peyton now. Apparently she signed an affidavit in 96 stating what happened, and all she reported was that he mooned her with no mention of physical contact. She only started reporting of as sexual assault when the gag order was broken 6/7 years later after Manning was in the NFL.

Really winds me up how lazy it is in terms of journalism. What's even more annoying is how much more frequent it is becoming in the last decade or so. I just want someone to have a scandal involving a farm entrance so we can have Gategate and be done with it.

When Brian Cowan was Taoiseach I was hoping that he'd be involved in a scandal and we'd have Cowan Gate. I'm sure the baby food manufacturer wouldn't have been happy with that.

But yeah, I hate it too. As you say it is lazy journalism of the highest order.

Fordell and Co are really digging their heels in on this "a joint is just as bad as beating women bloody (unless caught on publicly released video)" stance, eh?
