I believe it's more accurate to say inflight free drink is paid for by your employers customers, !

    Anyway

EY is in BOD and ER is in AUH both maintainance, with ASL 737 in daily use EI are a bit tight for frames, is first A321lr still due in July? EIS on MSP?

    A long summer ahead !

EI-LBR is also on the ground somewhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 213 ✭✭A319er

BR is AOG in BDL , ah well thank god for spare frames !!
The grounding of the MAX will make it very difficult to sub in the usual frames e.g. Titan HiFly etc .

LBR is falling apart interior wise, flew to IAD at Xmas on it. Those A321LRs can't come quick enough.

As far as I'm aware EI-CJX will be the first to go next year, as it is the oddball of the family with RR engines. IIRC from the fleet plan LBR/S/T should be gone by 2021.

The ASL 737 (EI-STA) did two returns for Aer Lingus last weekend, one to Frankfurt and one to Munich which was followed by Titan G-POWV (A321) doing a single Munich. Titan has done similar runs in previous weeks, G-ZAPX (757) did a Frankfurt rotation on St Patrick's Day followed by G-POWN (A321) doing another Munich rotation a few days later. It's working out at about 2-3 rotations a week, so not massive but that was before the summer schedule kicked in, with that being said I haven't seen any so far this week.

As for the A321LR delays, more airlines are reporting small delays such as Air Transat and even standard A321neo aircraft are coming off the line quite slowly with TAP, easyJet and Wizz all experiencing some sluggish deliveries. Not sure how much I'd trust Airbus revised schedules but that would just be my own opinion. I think Aer Lingus and Airbus are confident on the first one arriving in time for a start date in August (Hartford) but the second not so much. The remaining two for this year are still due in the Autumn/Winter but who knows what delays they might face, hopefully none.

MSP was always third or fourth down the list for A321LR service anyway, it was Hartford, Montreal and Philly first.

Original plan was A321LR on BDL from 1st July. Delay means it wont be in service until Aug 1st. MSP is launching before this on the B757.

How much longer will the CEO be manufactured for? I mean eventually the assembly line will be doing NEOs.

DVN has a phenomenally annoying squeak from the rear galley if there's any sideways motion

    Entire flight had light chop.

    Aaaarrrrgggghhh

Strange...as it has been in the hangar in Shannon for at least two weeks!
Hasn’t been to BDL in weeks....just the facts Mam:rolleyes

when the info about IAG signing a contract for WiFi across the group it mentioned a number for Iberia A350s, (think it was 25) which was 9 over what wiki had for their orders.

I think it’s a no-brained that EI will get the A339neo at some point. That could be 6-10 years away though. The oldest -300 is 12 years old. LAX and DAA are currently 20 and 18 years old .
Updated fleet plan says 2 more A330 in 2020 with 2 more before 2023. So perhaps replace the oldest -200s with new in 5-6 years?

Quick question does EI still use the stands on the 300s or are they just using the 400s these days?

Yes the use the 300s still, no way is there enough room for them to just use the 400s

Where did you work out LBR was AOG in Bradley? LBR is in Shannon at the moment in maintenance.

If you are referring to the cancellation of EI130 on 03/04 this was due to crew illness and the operating airframe LBT positioned home empty the same evening as EI990.

Plan is for LAX and EWR to be replaced with 330 Neo’s in 2021. Subject to change I’m sure. Three units planned for that year. Two replacements which will be NEO’s and a normal additional 330.

As a frequent traveller, I am glad to see this happening:

I would never have believed that such a minute detail could make a difference.

Yeah I noticed it on loads of the S/H fleet already, adds a nice touch

LBR is back flying on its way to IAD

As a fellow frequent traveller I don't get your enthusiasm, it doesn't make any difference to my personal enjoyment of a flight so I just don't get how airlines think it's going to be some sort of a deal breaker when choosing them ahead of another carrier who possibly doesn't have mood lighting, it wouldn't even feature on the list of things I like to see but if others like it, so be it.
What does annoy me though are the carriers that insist we leave the window blinds closed for the entire flight because "it interferes with the mood lighting".

Well I think if the effect is as advertised and it makes the boarding less stressful and the cruise more relaxing etc, then you'll leave with a better taste in you mouth than had that not been the case, and in turn be more likely to rebook/recommend to others about a relaxing stress free flight you had etc.

So while the mood lights themselves may not be a reason for choosing to fly with an airline, if they make for a more pleasant flying experience it's worth a shot as it may lead to further rebookings/being able to increase the premium charged over competitors due to perceived relaxation.

Would you pay a premium for mood lighting..?

I don’t think anyone has suggested that, but people do pay a premium for an overall better in-flight experience (why some people pay more to fly EI over Ryanair). Incremental changes are the only way the overall product can be enhanced, it will add to the entire experience even if it’s not a specifically attributable element of it.

The LED lighting power consumption and weight vs the flourescent tubes and ballasts will probably pay for itself in fuel consumption over the lifetime of the frames getting it.

Also the fluorescent tubes need to be relamped potentially more frequently than the LEDs - so one less service item to do (and having to reflect the panels at the same time)

I was on LH A319 & A320 a few days ago. It was very old school to see the oul tubes popping to life at different times across the length of the cabin. Versus my more typical experience seeing sky interior with Norwegian

Mood lighting is just a more modern improvement of lighting and is found in most parts of our lives now. On an aircraft it’s much nicer than that old yellow/white bulbs that would turn more yellowish as they aged and/or blink when reaching the end of their lives.
You may not get the enthusiasm but it’s just another minor technology advancement and that’s a good thing in my books

Tube phosphor coloured lighting is going to feel very dated / age an airframe quite soon.

Could have cases of 2012/3 delivered frames with worn factory/delivery fitted interiors looking aged beside late 1990s frames with replaced interior hardware and LED.
