Best wishes for 2017, FD/AM/AgyR..! Very glad you're back in these parts.

Pity to miss the NYD sojourn, but we'll do some parkrun-tourism to DNS soon, I hope! :)

    Sunday 1st January 2017
6 miles including two parkruns :)

Headed over to St. Anne's Park this morning for the first of today's parkruns. Super crowd out this morning including two clubmates (who were amongst the top finishers :) ) a big gang from Cabinteely parkrun and of course a whole host of boardsies and St. Anne's locals including FBOT, Mrs Mc,, PJD, Singer, FerrisB, KennyG and I was pleasantly surprised to see Laura_ac at that early hour :D. The St. Anne's crew were very welcoming and there was a lovely atmosphere. Started off somewhere in the middle and ran the course with Laura & PJD, super company to have going around, my first time on their new course and while it's certainly prettier than the other route I loved the Avenue bit The 'hill' they speak of is nothing more than a tiny ramp though :D. We were blessed with the weather even if temperatures had dropped about 10 degrees overnight!
3 miles @ 9:49 avg HR 155 watch time 29:52 (watch measured short on both courses today...)
There were some people running from one pr to the other but I choose to be sensible and drove to Fr Collins, thankfully the Sat Nav got me there :p A bigger crowd for the 2nd run including Killerz. My first time doing this parkrun, wasn't to happy to hear it's 4 loops but again had PJD for company going around although the finish isn't very nice as you've to run a loop while watching others finishing!! A flat course but very exposed and lots of turns, I'd say Hartstown is faster.
    3 miles @ 9:28 avg HR 164 28:49, bit faster than St. Anne's.
Gave FBOT & FerrisB a lift back to St Anne's & all got for my trouble was ABUSE :p
Thoroughly enjoyed this outing today and really great to catch up with everyone, even if they gave me an awful slagging in the coffee shop afterwards - KennyG you won't be forgiven for bringing poor Woody into the slagging either!!!!

Excuse me, I'm a machine at getting up early after late nights for parkrun.

The secret this morning was eating breakfast in the car and of course skipping the hair brushing :)

Good to see you and good to see you getting some recent pbs after a tough few months in the year. Mind yourself though and listen to the body and here's to a good running year.

In my defence, you brought it up I hadn't even read it. It would have been rude of me not to join in....Happy New Year:)

Not yet :D I was giving myself a bit of a rest over Christmas! I can't wait to try (tri!) it though, there will be no more lazy swims if it's being uploaded to strava :pac:. Of course I only got it because it monitors my HR during the day and at night, nothing whatsoever to do with bike rides cycles or swims :D

Wow, plenty of good ones to pick from! Some of those are on my list as well. Not running the BHAA race on Saturday, but will be in Dunboyne next week. Best of luck :)

I've just opted out of that one :D to competitive for me, might be around to help though but I'd really like to do the IMRA Howth race.... decisions decisions!

There's a great book by Moire O' Sullivan called Mud, Sweat and Tears that I think you'd enjoy. Moire started off doing the IMRA races around Wicklow and quickly developed a love for running on the mountains. It's a very good read :)

    YES! It's a date :D

    Monday 2nd January
3 mile hike in PP trails/forest/hills with woody, the most beautiful of days and I left my phone in the car so no photos...blissfully quiet too, hardly anyone else around at that early hour except us and the deer. At one point coming back through the forest we had a bit of a stand off with a (definitely) male deer, he won (he basically chased us off :p).

    Tuesday 3rd January
    Bike 24.8 miles
Back to work! I love my job but I don't love the 6.20 alarm call :(. Bike in and out so 24.8 miles return with eh 8 hours between them :p

    Wednesday 4th January
    Bike 18.7 miles
Yesterdays cycle home was tough so I decided to try something different and shorten the cycle part of my commute. Today was 18.7 miles return followed by:
Run: 3.3 miles @ 11:31 avg HR 133 - it was bitterly cold and I was glad of the warmer jacket I'd put on, don't think I warmed up at all on this run. Enjoyable nonetheless

    Thursday 5th Jan
    18.7 miles on the bike
PM: Yoga 30 mins focus on hips and flexibility

    Friday 6th Jan
    PM: 5.7 miles @ 11:11 avg HR 144.
Had to go for bloods this morning early and didn't want to lock the bike outside the Mater or arrive sweaty so I drove part of the way and got the train in with the plan to run back to the car after work. I ended up arriving sweaty anyway as the train was late and I had to jog from the station in a heavy coat  Followed by a disastrous trip on a Dublin bike - those yokes are dreadful!
Left the office a little earlier than usual and it was raining but quite warm & windy. Headed up the quays into the PP, had my head torch with me. Had to stop briefly just before monument roundabout to take off the rain jacket preferring to get wet than be too warm. I'm not sure what to call this run, the HR data suggests it wasn't in the 'easy' range although not too bad either given it's all uphill, into the wind and I was wearing a backpack, maybe somewhere between easy & steady (effort levels).

    Saturday 7th Jan
RUN: 4 miles total including 3 miles XC training run @ 11:26 avg HR 140
I had considered doing the BHAA XC in Tymon this morning but it's my last opportunity for a Saturday lie in for a while - parkrun will be very busy with OT until mid February and I've agreed to be one of the ambassadors. Anyway, had a brain wave to do a training run in the cow park. Parked in the train station so I could head straight to pool afterwards, jogged the 1/2 mile to the field, changed into my spikes and set off. Plan was to do 3 laps of the two fields which should give me 3 miles. It was so quiet and peaceful in there! and MUCKY :D glad I had worn the spikes as even jogging around I was slipping & sliding. A great workout I think, and one to add in regularly.

SWIM: 30 mins swim....nope, that won't work any more  stupid watch with its stupid ability to measure exactly what I swam  I might just leave out that bit of the update #pathetic. Anyway, I'm thinking of joining the pool near work so I can swim at lunchtime a couple of times a week which should be better than going straight after a run.

The new watch has a few fancy readings on it. The race predictor is pretty accurate certainly for the shorter stuff and there's a recovery advisor telling you how much recovery you need after a run. It also gives your Vo2 max figures although I believe this is not as accurate as a lab test and shouldn't be taken too seriously, pity as mine is 43 which according to the table for my age is 'excellent' I might just pretend it's right so! You need to wear a HR strap to get lactate threshold information along with things like vertical oscillation, will give it a try one of the days..

Thanks martyboy :) how's your rehab coming along??

On the 'fine mix' of workouts, I have this nagging voice in the back of my head telling me I need to find a plan and stick to it but I'm not entirely sure I'm ready for a plan yet. I've absolutely no idea if the mix of things I"m doing is doing me any good, for example yesterdays and today's runs were probably similar enough effort wise. I'll make sure to do a recovery run tomorrow. As for mixing XC races, 800/1500m races and hill runs??! But then I read Neady's log and realise it's all okay :pac: I'll keep things as they are until April (when I next see the specialist) so apologies for the lack of structure and or goals until then :)

I 100% get this, ever now and then I get frustrated at my lack of PBs in running and wonder if I should just concentrate on one thing and try to get faster but then I enjoy the variety and all the disciplines help each other.

Crikey, I wouldn't be using my log as a guide :D I'm a jack of all trades, master of none :D but ...... I love what I do and that's what counts. No need to apologise for any lack of structure or goals - keep doing what you're doing and as long as you're enjoying it .. there's alway tri or adventuring :)

p.s. you're clocking up serious milage on the bike. Have you heard of Audax Ireland? ......

If I was half as good at any discipline as you'd I'd be very happy!!

Never heard of them, googled it there though, a bridge to far for me I think, their cycles are 200km  A club mate tells me there are some easy(ish) duathlons coming up in the spring so I might try one of those.

Ha, it wasn't a dig at all, I swear :D:D
Just pointing out how much you are getting done and how much you seem to be enjoying it :) Keep it up :D

Rehab going good I guess. Good in the sense I got it seen to and have a plan/process kinda think on the go. No more running until at least next monday 16th. Starting Yoga and strength work next week and plan to keep it up as a mainstay of all future plans. All good in the hood :)

    Sunday 8th Jan
    AM: 3 miles @ 11:31 avg hr 134
This was a slog from start to finish after a rubbish night sleep and I probably should just not have bothered but was going out for a fancy french lunch and wanted to work off the calories before I ate them :p. Definitely didn't run enough v the number of calories eaten and a temporary interruption in dry January too #musttryharder. Have put a bit more of a structure on the next few weeks so will see how that goes.
